Fortunately, the company had an extra glass available and after the fireplace was serviced a new glass was installed. The company then proceeded to charge me $280 for a what was supposed to be a $125 job. The service guy claimed this was the standard charge and I was not being charged for the glass. He was at my house for a total of 30 minutes. I called Mr Fireplace for an explanation. How could I be charged $280 for a job that was quoted $125 over the phone? The owner Brian called me back a couple of days later. He explained that I was indeed being charged to replace the glass (hence the extra charges) because I did not have proof that I had properly maintained the glass, therefore it was not the service guys fault. Unless you have proof that you have had your fireplace maintained annually don't hire this company as they will assume no liability. Misleading company! Stay Away.

In order to pass inspection the framing need to be moved out half inch on either side. No one told us this they just bolted it in and left. we were then told after the fact it's up to us to make sure it passes inspection, they said it clearly says this in the manual. So they installed knowing it wouldn't pass inspection. It's up to us to read the manual which is fair but we didn't get the manual until after they installed. Would not recommend!!

Agreed to purchase a used unit that according to "Ryan" was the same output as the old one & lightly used/almost new. Cost $1300 plus $500 installation. It seemed ok once in, but quickly it appeared to be lacking in heat output. Once I downloaded a manual it was discovered that this unit was only around half of the BTU's of the old one & was at least 17 years old. A couple of days later the fan stopped working. When informed of the data "Ryan" completely denied these facts presenting spurious excuses & double talk. He refused any remediation other than to put $1300 to a new unit priced at $7000. A similar unit cost $5000 at actual dealers. When replaced by a reputable service person, it was observed that the "Ryan" install was a mess of wires & shoddy gas connections. They had really creative ideas for the installation (in my case, how to get a slightly larger fireplace in the old space). They offered an extremely fair price. They showed up when they said they would. They responded quickly and always followed up. The installation was quick and easy. They took care of all the logistics. They left the place clean. They always wore masks. And they had great recommendations for tile distributors and installers. Plus I like that they are a Calgary-based small business. I can't recommend them highly enough. Got gas? Hope so …read more.. My wife and I recently moved and bought a home in McKenzie Towne. The home we bought had an undeveloped basement - our plan was to develop it right away. Our previous home had a NG (natural gas) hookup for our NG BBQ... this house did not. I have a number of friends who work in the trades industry so I asked my friend and framing contractor (Dave Bates - Timberstone Contracting) for a Gas Fitter referral. Dave introduced me to Rick Kirkland - the owner of Protech Plumbing. After a brief call with Rick and confident he understood our needs, I agreed to his his service. Rick sent one of his crew (Jesse) to see our home and estimate the job. * instal a natural gas line to the back of the home for our BBQ * instal a NG line into the kitchen for future use of a gas range * re-run a couple existing gas lines which hadn't been ran through the floor joists Jesse quoted the work needed and Rick arranged for the city gas inspector. Rick really made it easy to work with him. Jesse was great. Not only did he do great work but he also saved us a massive headache & expense. During the installation of the NG BBQ line, Jesse noticed some condensation in the home's rim-joists. After closer review and a call the to builder, we all realized the rim-joist vapour barrier had been improperly installed! Had this gone unnoticed the condensation would have inevitably caused serious damage to our home - long after the reno - and resulting in a lot of money to correct the problem. Thanks to Jesse, this giant headache was avoided. As for the work Jesse did - fantastic. Clean, on time, and professional and as per the price quoted. Lastly, a couple weeks after the install of the NG BBQ line, I noticed the smell gas around the BBQing area. I was convinced the smell was coming from the newly installed NG hookup. I called Rick to inquire... Rick sent one of his crew the next day... and we discovered the NG hookup was just fine. The gas smell was coming from a hole in the BBQ gas hose itself (I must have damaged it during the move). Oops... my fault. Rick said "no worries"... it happens. He didn't even charge me for the service call. He should have... and would have happily paid for it. I was extremely impressed with the work and professionalism of Rick and his crew. More so, I will be forever grateful for Jesse's discovery of the condensation found in the home's rim-joists as well as the money saved from it's immediate repair (covered by my home warranty). I've since recommended Rick and the services of Protech Plumbing. They've loved Rick and his services as much as we did. I continue to confidently refer the services of Rick and Protech Plumbing. If you need a plumbing or gas fitting service, do not hesitate to give Rick a call - I guarantee you, you wont regret it.

A technican (Jesse) showed up and gave me pricing for two options (inside and outside piping). They arranged for the city inspector to come and managed to finish the whole thing in two days. Their staff were very friendly (Rick, Sandy, Jesse, Sterling). If I had a negative comment it was about the choise of how he ran the line in a certain area (under the joist instead of above it). I left it to his professional judgement and when I thought about it after the work was done, I thought he should have done it above the joist. I should mention though that when Sterling came back to grab the gauge, he voluntarily checked my BBQ. He figured out why it was wobbly and gave me a few metal sheet screws from his van so I can tighten it up! That's added value. The final price came to exactly how the quote mentioned. I highly recommend them. I will enjoy BBQing tonight!

He only charged me $167. Which I found to be extremely reasonable. They will be my go to classic fireplace distributors for years. I am so very happy.
