I have been to 6 different acupuncturists in my life. is that a lot? i don't know, but they have all been so different! I understand very little of what's going on when getting TCM, so I can only go by the results I've received and the manner in which the practitioner delivers these results. I saw Tom at different times for several years for fertility, shoulder pain, wrist pain, and once I got a massage just cause I wanted one!
Starting with the simplest, shoulder and wrist pain, i felt great improvement and today they are both fine. Tom is smart and gentle and doesn't have the blustery bullshit I know exactly what is wrong with you way that i find i dislike from both Western and eastern medicine. He says things like, well, most likely you hurt it doing xyz, he doesn't gloat about getting something right and he doesn't continue on a path that seems like it's wrong. He's very smart but he's still humble about the million possible ways a person could strain a shoulder.
With fertility, you need to be especially gentle but kind of bossy, and that is exactly what tom was. Trying to get pregnant at the ages of 42-44 is not for the faint of heart. I had to be on a low inflammation diet (no fun) i had to exercise (no fun) I had to lose weight (no fun) and i had to take formulas. And while being a hard ass on me to make sure i was doing everything on my end, Tom also had to be pretty damn gentle, because i did get pregnant, 4 times in those years, and unfortunately none of them were viable. And no one was more sympathetic than Tom.
And lastly, what a great massage therapist! Whenever i get a treatment from any acupuncturist i am always hoping that they will consider some massage of something, anything! to be a necessary part of my treatment. But the time i got a whole massage from Tom I was blown away!
