Recently bought 2 chairs from Relax the Back/Healthy Back store. One a zero gravity chair for myself and the other a lift recliner for my husband. The salespeople, Peggy and Marvin couldn't have been more helpful, or knowledgeable. The chairs were delivered exactly as promised. However, within a day or two of delivery, my husband's chair stopped working. I called the store on a Sunday, not expecting anything more than a few suggestions of what to do. Instead, a technician arrived at our door less then an hour later. He was unable to fix the issue. Peggy ordered a new chair, it was delivered within a few days and its been working great since then. Their promise to make sure that we were satisfied with everything was definitely fulfilled. I would truly recommend both their products and their excellent customer service! read more

I bought a $200 Technogel pillow and within 6 months it flattened and stopped being supportive. It came with a 3 year warranty. The store will not give me a new one (which they have in stock) and I have to wait for the Manufacturer to give them a credit first. It is taking two weeks and three contact attempts with the store and I still Don't have a resolution and I Don't anticipate a resolution any time soon. They keep saying on Monday and then Monday comes and nothing ever happens. Not even a return phone call. Avoid this store at all costs. Better to purchase the merchandise online direct from the manufacturer. NEVER again will I buy from this lousy store with horrendous customer service. Just terrible experience. read more

I live 90 minutes north of the Rockville, MD Healthy Back store, but chose to drive the distance on Saturday, February 20, 2021 to "test drive " the Svaro Zero Gravity line of chairs. Exceptional product (pricey but well worth it) Terrific sales person, Marvin Hernandez, was extremely knowledgeable and responsive without being pushy. Considered my purchase over the weekend and finalized on Monday morning. The store honored their " price match" policy for legitimate online stores. I was totally pleased with my experience and expect to receive via FedEx directly from Svago in 5-6 weeks. Ask for Marvin if you are a serious buyer. read more

I visited this store today to buy a new ergonomic chair. Marvin and the rest of the staff were fantastic! He spent an hour and a half with me (and closed the store to others because I'm immunocompromised), and they were so patient about my indecisiveness, especially on the headrest. I really feel like I wound up getting a great chair, and that he definitely knew what he was talking about. He went over all of the adjustments with me, and answered every question I had. I would definitely visit this store again, and I can't wait for my new Steelcase Leap chair to arrive in a few weeks! read more

I ordered two Lafuma Futura Air Comfort Zero Gravity Chairs from healthyback.com. After a little over two weeks I called to check on the order. I was told the company could not get the chairs from the manufacturer, even though the chairs were still being offered on their website. I was offered a refund. Two weeks later I called to check on the status of the refund. After being given several reasons why it wasn't unusual for a refund to take that long to process, I was told the cancellation was never issued. I disputed the transaction with my credit card company and immediately received a refund. Healthy Back accepted an order for a product they couldn't fill, then failed to process a refund. Needless to say I did not have a positive experience and would not recommend buying from the Healthy Back Store. read more

The chair was delivered in the wrong color, but they left it with me to use until the correct color arrives. This afternoon I had a very good experience shopping for a new workstation chair for my home office. I also bought a new mattress at the same time. Peggy Douglas has excellent product knowledge and was patient with all of my questions. She helped narrow choices down without being pushy, which I appreciated. Originally, I was there to only shop for a chair. I use my office chair for more than 8 hours a day so the proper fit and ergonomics is critical for me. Secondly, although I was not there to buy a new mattress I had been thinking about one for a while. For fun I started asking some questions about them and Peggy again was very knowledgeable. Mattresses are a blind item because it's hard to compare since they are called different names in different stores. The sales people are usually very hard sell, which is a turn-off. I purchased a lift chair from the Rockville store 10 weeks ago. The lift function broke after a week. It took 3 weeks calling the store and a call to the corporate office before the chair was picked up to be repaired under warranty. My wife and I have been customers of the Healthy Back Store for over a decade. We have bought a mattress, miscellaneous other products, and a very expensive Human Touch chair from them within the last two years. The chair lists for over $2,000. My wife bought it because of severe back issues. It came with a five year full parts and labor warranty. This chair is less than two years old and fell apart while my wife was sitting in it. She was trapped and could not get out of it. She screamed in panic for help. I came into the room and with much difficulty was able to help her out of it. i called healthy back and they apologized saying they never had such a thing happen before (read some of the other reviews and you will see this is false!). I spoke to the manager Peggy who had me call the Human Touch Chair Company. They said it was under warranty but asked for pictures of the chair and the parts that fell off it. I sent pictures and they said it was the mechanism mounting parts. They gave me a claim number and said they needed a receipt to repair it. I went back to Peggy who said she would send it to Human touch. She did not. I called her back saying the chair was no good and I wanted my money back. She said no because we had the chair over three months. I tried calling Human touch and they would not pick up, i was on hold 45 minutes (twice). I called back Healthy Back and spoke to Peggy again. She apologized and said she would call them; a few weeks later I spoke to Marvin who again apologized and promised he would take care of it. Again nothing. I called and spoke to Cathy who apologized and said Peggy was busy doing inventory and would get back to me. Again she never called or left a message nor have I heard from the human touch chair company. If this is how they treat long time customer I shudder to think how they treat new customers. I now have a large useless piece of junk in my family room that cost more than my first four used cars. I will never buy another thing from this company and urge anyone reading this review to avoid them as well. I am sending a copy of this complaint to the Montgomery county Better Business Bureau and Healthy Back Corporate Headquarters. read more

One of the highlights of the Healthy Back store is a very helpful sales staff. They will likely greet you promptly and ask you about your needs. The two folks I interacted with, Joe Brown and a female sales person, were happy to recommend products and suggested that I try out the inversion table in store. Though I appreciated the assistance, if you are the type of person who prefers not to engage sales staff until you have a question, you might find the sales approach too attentive. The bulk of the store's floor space is taken up by furniture - ergonomic office seating, massage chairs, inversion tables, and mattresses. The next greatest assortment of products is back support cushions and pillows. There are also some office accessories that support good posture and neck alignment - computer stands, a desk, bright lighting. The smallest selection was for exercise equipment and stretching tools. Exercise equipment was mostly limited to Therabands and exercise balls. For stretching, there are some neck traction devices, foam rollers, and a wooden back roller. You can find a few hand-held massagers as well. I was in search of items that fit the last category above: I wanted therapeutic interventions that could help me to stretch and strengthen my supper back and beck. I had seen a few promising prodcts on Amazon for upper back and neck pain. My goal was to find those items or similar ones at Healthy Back so that I could try them out before buying and, if happy, bring them home the same day. Alas, at this time the store does not stock what I want. If you too are shopping around for things like Davinci tools, still point inducers, SpineWorx, or lumbar stretchers, you won't find them here. My advice to potential customers is to look at the Healthy Back website before going so that you know what's available and the price point. If you want to be able to try something before buying, you want personal advice, and you are not too price sensitive, then the Healthy Back Store may work out well for you. If you don't fit these criteria, you probably want to shop somewhere else - like Amazon or an online fitness retailer. A quick note on furniture prices: I did not look too closely at the furniture or try any of it myself, but some of the products look quite nice and/or very comfortable. Shoppers should be prepared to pay prices on par with moderately high-end furniture retailers, however. Office chairs range from about $600 to $1000. Massage chairs are priced from $900 to $8800. Among mattresses, you have a choice of Tempurpedic, Dr. Scholls Technogel, or Healthy Back Sleep System products. Most, queen and king size Tempurpedic mattresses at Healthy Back range from about $1700 to $4900, but you can splash out on models ranging all the way up to $8500. The Healthy Back brand is considerably less expensive, topping out at $3241. Technogel mattresses are $3750 for the less expensive queen to $3,900 for the more expensive king. * All the pricing listed here is from the catalog I picked up in store in early January 2013. This place has the right stuff but the wrong people. The staff here in particular the two ladies that work there on weekends are absolutely the worst customer service in the world. They are rude and do not belong there. To top it off I contracted the district manager and left her a voicemail regarding the issue and since Memorial Day weekend I have yet to get a phone call back. Went to the Rockville store looking for information on recliners for a parent. All seemed good at first; the sales rep was very helpful and seemed interested in our business. Because it was late in the day and they could not provide all of the information we needed, the sales rep took our information and promised to provide a quote as quickly as possible. After not hearing anything for a week, we went back to see if we could receive the quote in person. We received apologies about how busy they had been, yada yada. We understood. They again took our information because they again could not provide the information we needed on the spot. Thereafter, we received one follow up call to say they were still working on gathering the information. Then, nothing. No word, no call back. Fortunately, we easily found another company willing to help us purchase and ship the exact same recliner to our parent, as we had hoped. In fact, we received it much sooner than we had expected. Needless to say, we will not return to the Healthy Back store. Sorry customer service. read more

Watch out for the gimmicks from this store. My husband and I went there to purchase a bed after we both were having back problems. We bought a bed and they said that if it didn't work for us we could return it for full price back except for a $100 fee. They then said that they would throw in two of their healthy back pillows for us for free. The bed ended up being terrible. Our backs got much worse after sleeping on the bed. The pillows also were bad. Completely not comfortable and about 10 pounds each. We called to return the bed. After they argued for a while, dodged calls for a while, and tried to convince us to come back to the store to purchase another bed they finally said they would pick up the bed. The two pillows that they gave us for free with the bed couldn't be returned because they were opened from the package. Thus, they charged us $170 for each pillow. Skip this store and go with sleep number. Their return policy is much better. read more

I remain shocked at how unresponsive this store has been. I purchased a mattress, 2 mattress covers, some pillows and some sheets to be delivered to my home in December. One mattress cover was back-ordered and was supposed to arrive in a couple of weeks. I never heard from the store again. I emailed them, and they never responded to any emails. Several times when I called to check on the missing item, which they had received full payment for, they assured me more than once that it was on its way via expedited delivery and I would receive it in 1 or 2 days. That never happened. I didn't receive the item until 8 weeks after I paid for it. They never once initiated contact to update me on or to attempt to fulfill this order. They repeatedly lied about it having been shipped. They also claimed that one time they tried to deliver it, but no one was home and they didn't want to leave the package!!!!! Then they said they wanted to install the mattress cover for me, so that's why they didn't want to leave it. Their ineptitude almost comical. read more

These folks are incredible, and they know just about everything there is to know about furniture and equipment to help one's back. I've suffered from chronic lower back pain most of my life. I've now had two surgeries including L4-L5 fusion, but the pain persists. I started with a zero gravity chair from HumanTouch a few years ago, and then I just went back to purchase a second ZG chair and an adjustable bed frame. My wife and I could not be more happy with everything. Peggy, the manager at the Rockville store is incredibly patient. We used to have a store in Columbia, MD, but it closed some months ago. Still, if you are in need of furniture or equipment to help you with your back, it is well worth the trip.
