First time visits to new hair salons are always a bit daunting for me, but I needed not fret. Mary, the owner, gave me a completely new look. I wasn't entirely sure what I wanted, but I had some ideas what I didn't want.. Mary patiently showed me a few photos to give me an idea of some options, which would have all worked nicely, and I asked for a particular cut. I was very impressed with this place. Mary was friendly and gave me good tips on how to take care of my hair. Above all, she had vision which is what I'm always looking for in any hair salon. I booked in with Jill... been back to her again to have a completely different style from the 1t time too. Each time she has given me some fab ideas (yes I've been on of those annoying people that goes in & says "I want it to look different but I don't know what I want"). Both times my hair has come out looking lovely, but most importantly I am able to style it myself at home. She listened to exactly what I did/didn't feel is good for my hair (I need lots of feathering & layers). I must stresses that I am so so impressed by the blow dry skills!! The 1st time I went in I had big bouncy curls using just a hair dryer, no irons or tongs.... now that I wish I could re-create at home!! All the staff in there are very friendly, offer you tea/coffee & don't seem bored unlike some other places I've been, even though I have been one of the last customers of the day on both occasions. Prices are £30 for student wash/cut/blowdry.. and a bit more if you arnt. Not bad, both times ive been more than happy to pay that for feeling as good as I have walking out! Highly recommended!

I actually needed to pysch myself up before this review and think about my terminology. I went for a full bikini wax, I think it's called a Hollywood, which is everything off - ZWAP! Now, the job the good looking girl did was very thorough. Obviously they don't feel awkward at all, unlike me when there's some hot blonde peering at you with your knickers in the most unflattering way ever (you know how I mean girls - flossing). Now, I've had this done before and it's not been done 100% because there's some angles that can't be got to by just lying on your back and reasonably priced Salon LA seemed to be the only place that have actually gathered this. True professionals, I'm just still really immature when it comes to body parts.

Eh WHY do people do this? Holy moly this hurts a lot. You kind of know it is going to be painful, but you have really no idea until this crazy lady starts ripping hairs out your leg. Couple that with the fact you are with a stranger so you can't really express your true emotions would be a mixture of screams and expletives. Pain and torture aside, the girl was lovely and the price not too bad. If I was going to continue torturing myself in this way, I would use Egg to do so. Sadly for Egg, the Venus will do for now.

Aside from hairdressing and beauty treatments they also undertake glamour work of various types. I have my hair cut there on a Tuesday when a guys hair cut costs only £5 and that usually includes a warm drink and a short head massage after the cut. Highly recommend the salon a rewarding experience which makes you feel great.

This place is definitely aiming for the cool crowd, the sort who will spend a bit extra to get a designer haircut. Although really it's also catering to students (for whom there is a discount) so its more affordable than a lot of other hairdressers in Edinburgh. As a guy, I really have no problem admitting I have massages and enjoy them. I take them now to help my ongoing back problems, but since, I have realised just how good they are for your general health (as well as just being relaxing) At Ishi it was really pretty good. It was actually a gift from a friend, who had heard me moaning for ages about my back. As a present I got the full body massage. Only the back was medicinal but the whole thing was really nice. I felt completely comfortable (important for a massage) and at the end I felt relaxed, which at the end of the day is the aim of exercise. Although it did do wonders to ease some of my pain, massage here is definitely geared toward the recreational/relieving stress side, rather than physio, which turned out to be more what I needed. However I would still highly recommend the masseuse here, as a gift for yourself or to yours, for an easy time relaxing.
