When I went in the owner, Penny Black, was on a rant about people saying have a blessed day. I laugh to myself but ignore it. Then Julie is loudly ranting about getting a ticket. Then she bitches cause "the cop told me to have a great day. To which Penny responded "and they wonder why they're always getting shot!" I was so shocked I stood up only to realize I'm halfway thru my nails at a crucial point so I sat back down and steamed for 1/2 hour. When Lisa was done I told her I wouldn't be back because of Penny's comment. I believe in freedom of speech but to make such a mean comment was too much.

Rachel was the one who answered the phone that day and she also happened to be the barber who did my haircut and face shave. I had no idea what to expect never having been to this location and also never having had my face shaved professionally and I was very very very fortunate to have someone so well qualified to take care of my needs. Rachel is unlike any stylist I have ever been to throughout my lifetime of hair cuts. She actually listened to what I had to say about the style I wanted -- she didn't try to do her own thing or convince me that her recommendation was better than mine. She also never asked me 20 questions like most stylists have done in the past. I don't always want to chat when I'm sitting in a cozy chair getting my hair combed and snipped. Sometimes I just need to relax. After my first service experience with Rachel I definitely wanted to schedule more. She was more than accommodating with my tumultuous work schedule and has always found a way to "make it work" when it became tricky. Since I've been seeing Rachel for the past few years, I have received nothing but what I consider to be the best service I have had in my life. One special thing about my haircut experience(s) with Rachel is that she always shaved my neck with a straight edge -- a next level kind of attention to detail that not only do I appreciate, but I NEED. The first time she did my eyebrows I was shocked with how great they turned out. I have expected to lose all my eyebrow manliness and have pointy, thin, and super-shaped eyebrows. No, she took care of my problem areas while respecting/complimenting their natural shape. Rachel is extremely professional, extremely talented, and an absolute pleasure to do business with. I found a great hairstylist/colorist who worked here but, sadly, who has moved to a different city with her family. Her replacement is not very friendly and not as skilled. However, I realize I'm not just rating my hairstylist; I'm reviewing the salon overall. The interior is cute and makes me think of the movie "Steel Magnolias" every time I go there. But, it's also kind of dim inside. When picking a haircolor, I would look at swatches and would have to go to a sunny window to see differences between shades clearly enough for me to decide between them. It's also not dirty, but also not the cleanest salon I've ever been in. It's just a bit dusty. The last straw (and the reason I won't go back) is that the service has just sucked the past three times I've been there. The last time I got my hair colored, the girl wasn't friendly (You may wonder why I kept going back; I thought she just had some bad days!) and didn't make much of an effort to ensure I was comfortable. She was kind of rough with my scalp (I'm never usually sensitive, but she pulled at my hair quite a lot and my scalp did get sore with the tugging), and didn't set a timer when she finished applying color. She walked away and I read TWO ENTIRE magazines (on my iPad, the selection available was old, as in, I had already read the issues on my last visits). As I neared the end of second magazine, I realized there was no timer set, looked around, and didn't see anyone. The dye was on my head for more than 50 minutes before she rinsed it out. (And, when she returned, she smelled like cigs.) I've heard good things about the owner, and she seems nice. But, after going there for 2 or so years, I don't feel comfortable to keep paying $80-100 for a service whose process I don't enjoy much.

He made some comments that were awkward and inappropriate. He was also late to the appointment to begin with. I left early and was horrified and they still charged me full price for one of the worst experiences of my life. After consulting with a friend whos mother is a message therapist. She suggested I call the salon to share my experience with the owner... The owner did not return my call, the girl answering the phone was extremely rude and argued with me. No one resolved the issue. But the guy that did the massage saw my note to speak with the owner and he gets my number and calls me from his personal phone and ask me to tell him what happened? Awkward again! Not sure what the hair services are like but if it is anything like she runs her overall business, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone I care about.

It makes you feel invisible, not even the owner greets anyone. I had enough of the rudeness to stop going. I tried it again after not going for over a year and upon returning, it was more of the same. No greeting from anyone. Oh I almost forgot that a 20% tip is automatic unless you catch it. A regular haircut at $40 plus an expected tip of 20% adds up quickly to put one in rip-off territory. Your typical college town, students living on daddy's money impact the regular customers that have to pay their way!
