I was doubtful that they would agree to respond to an internet inquiry as I wouldn't be a repeat customer but was pleasantly surprised when not only they responded but put with one of their most senior stylist as I was sure I'd be put with a newbie. I understand everyone has to start somewhere but I had a sudden health crisis a year ago that resulted in major hair loss. I was subsequently deeply concerned about a neophyte coloring and trimming my hair. I emailed them my regular stylist's "recipe" and Naomi was an absolute master at her craft. She did an incredible job and was very much a subject matter expert as to what I could do to protect my hair that was coming back in and asses how much new growth I had given it was all uneven. I am strictly team Aveda for years and years but often the sacrifice is the personality of the stylist and although I'm fine with silence, Naomi was the absolute coolest and a complete delight. First, the work - Amanda did a fantastic job giving me beautiful, long, loose curls! I have fine hair, but a lot of it and it goes to almost my waist. I was a little nervous to visit a general salon in Bar Harbor as I am used to salons in NYC that specialize in blow drys and styling. Amanda eliminated all of my reservations when she spent the first few minutes of my visit asking very specific questions about what I wanted, which products hold a curl in my hair and then discussing how she was going to set the curls to ensure they lasted as long as possible. As she got to work on my hair, we made friendly conversation and she was very pleasant to visit with. When she was finished, I was blown away. My hair looked AWESOME! It was on par, if not better, than some of the stylings I have had at specialty salons in NYC. My hair looked so great, that the photographer had my husband and I pose in such a way that she could capture the beauty of the curls in some of the photos! And now the other parts of my visit: - the styling was very affordable and moderately priced (approx. $30) - the salon was clean, modern and the styling chairs were super comfortable - the receptionist was very friendly and immediately offered me water when I arrived - they were very flexible with me and allowed me to move my appointment to another day when our original photo session was moved due to rain - my only "complaint" was the parking situation. There is not a private parking lot so you have to park on the street or in the lot across the street. Anyone who has been to Bar Harbor knows this can be difficult!
