He-Brews was the first local coffee shop I ever went to in Lubbock. During my freshman year, my friend was visiting Tech, and I went with him, my sister, and my at-the-time girlfriend who was visiting with them. I liked how secluded He-Brews was from the rest of Lubbock, right in the heart of prairie dog town. It's hard to get distracted from studying if the only thing around you is dirt. I've been to He-Brews a handful of times since then, having nice conversations with a friend over coffee, getting some studying in when I needed a change of scenery, or last week when I decided to revisit He-Brews while in town. I think the space is cute and cozy. There is plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. This time I ordered their Lavender Haze, a lavender and honey macchiato. I thought it was a little too milky compared to the espresso, and it lacked much nuance. It was fine and I finished it, but it really wasn't special. They also have a Christian radio station, KWBF, under the same roof. I have never once seen the station's broadcasters inside the studio while I'm in there, but it is cool to have it in one place. Because of this, you may hear Christian Contemporary Music playing inside He-Brews, which I don't think is inherently wrong, but it is maybe the worst non-secular music to exist, so be prepared with headphones to hear literally anything else. If the macchiato you order is inspiring you to go deeper in your faith, I'd recommend checking out Numero's Good God! Apocryphal Hymns for some much needed fellowship that actually has something to say past the three minute mark. I am not really sure why He-Brews needs to be so strongly associated with its religious method. Nothing about coffee is inherently Christian, but a lot of people deep in faith love to open a cafe. I really don't think opening a coffee shop as a Christian is even a bad thing. I think providing a place of comfort is a great mission to have as a follower of Christ. It's just that they don't advertise any fellowship or promote any charitable concepts. Instead, they have a WiFi password of John 3:16 and say they are inspiring growth. I want to buy it. I want to believe in it, but it all feels surface level. As I left, I noticed the massive load of campaign yard signs outside their building. Nothing says following Jesus Christ quite like endorsing candidates. It's like they realized how good a pun of He-Brews would be and everything else is just trying to make the name work. The environment is very relaxing sitting next to a pond and walking trail without anything else around, yet it's still close to downtown and Tech. The staff was friendly and moved quickly even with a line on Friday morning. Prairie dog mounds exist on two sides of the building, so it's fun to see them. They are shy, so don't walk to them, but bring and throw some baby carrots out for them! The outdoor patio is huge with a beautiful view of the water and greenery. Parking is all dirt and gravel. If you need a drink to-go, make sure you tell them when ordering because they serve drinks in cute, non-disposable latte cups. I only gave 4 stars because the latte was delicious, but not sure it was the strongest. The He-Brews signature latte is delicious! read more

This place is okay. It's out of the way for a mediocre cup of coffee. Also, the outdoor patio needs to be updated and the parking lot is rough. I like that it has the radio station inside, a clean space, and lots of drink options. It's a good place to see prairie dogs, so consider bringing your out-of-town friends here. The absolute best thing about this coffee shop is its location. While it's a bit off the beaten path, it's incredibly charming, surrounded by nature, and a perfect spot to hang out or get some work done. The coffee is solid. not quite Goldstripe-level, but definitely better than Sugar Browns or most places near campus. They offer a wide variety of flavors, and their syrups are made in-house, which is a nice touch. The pastries are fantastic, though the main food items are just okay but fairly priced for what they are. The space has a lot of character and a great vibe, but it's sometimes a bit worn down. Given that it's in an older building out in a field, that's understandable. The service here is outstanding. The staff truly are some of the friendliest people in Lubbock. They take the time to talk with you, take pride in getting your order just right, and are always happy to work with you if something goes wrong. My favorite study spot in Lubbock! Lots of seating both indoor and outdoor. I love to sit next to the water outside to get some homework done. This is a really nice spot to study. The ambiance is nice and the coffee is delicious. The staff are super friendly. We noticed that the menu was incorrect for one item. When we told the staff, they printed a whole new menu! They really care about our feedback. Hebrews is right next to the park so you can walk about and enjoy nature after your coffee. They even have paddle boards to rent! The soothing Christian music is the cherry on top. read more

Left before I got my coffee. Started with the pretentious you lady at the counter who had zero customer service skills or desire to help anyone. She proceeded to take about 10 orders...all the while not even beginning to alert anyone of the orders or to get anyone any coffee. At one point we were all just standing there looking at each other. They can take the order...they just can't FILL the order. So...I paid $3.50 for a cup of coffee...still unsure of what I ordered since she couldn't explain anything...got a $4 piece of day old banana bread which was likely bought at the local supermarket....and the supermarket banana bread was the high point. read more

My favorite spot in Lubbock hands down! The coffee is amazing and the scenery is sooooo relaxing. And if you're not a caffeine drinker, they have other options that are super yummy (their chai latte is the best I've ever had). Great place to grab a coffee and then go for a walk by the lake, especially on a nice day. There's a ton of prairie dogs there that are so cute to watch, and there's a trail by the lake that is gorgeous to walk along at sunrise/sunset, with a drink from He-Brews of course. It's usually not too loud and is a wonderful study spot for students. Or even to just hang out (they have board games you can play too)! We've been wanting to try this place since we moved to Lubbock last October. Nice quiet location but very a boring latte. If you like a mellow, almost bland latte, you'll like this place. I was excited to come across this new coffee place! (New to me) Its a bit confusing to find and the outside look questionable but once inside it's a relaxing atmosphere. I stood at the counter for a few minutes without being greeted or anything. When I realized I wasn't going to be greeted I had to speak up and ask if I can order. It wasn't very welcoming. Before driving all the way from south Lubbock I reviewed their menu and saw that they offer decaf! And had a lavender latte I was excited to try. I started to order and was told they don't have decaf. I politely said on your online menu it says you have decaf. She said the grinder was broken and she didn't apologize or offer any other suggestions. If I felt more welcomed I probably would have purchased something else (like a tea) especially because I drove a way to get here. read more

Rode into town and wanted a nice cup of coffee and place to sit. Stand-alone, locally owned coffee shops are what I always trend toward because they are usually customer oriented and work hard to have a great product. I got a Sumatra bottomless because I was going to be there for awhile before I met up with some friends and needed to relax plus check emails. Before I got the cup to my lips I could detect a flavored aroma and it was verified when I took a sip. I took several more before I returned to the counter and said I couldn't drink it because of the aroma and taste. I have been a home roaster for close to 10 years and thus was undrinkable for me. The girl at the counter took my cup that was almost still full and made no offer to try another brew or refund me. A bad choice to come here for coffee. read more

We've been on vacation all week sampling coffee all over Texas and New Mexico and this shop/coffee was by far our fav. It's located in the 98.7 radio station, which is so cool bc host Ken Adams gave us a station tour and history lesson while we waited on our coffee. They make all of their own syrups and the baristas come up with their favorite combos. I'm always delighted when we find coffee shops that don't use stock flavoring. Their lavender white mocha is the best coffee I've had on our trip. Staff was super friendly and the prairie dogs living in the park around the property kept the husbands entertained. read more

One of my favorite study spots in Lubbock! Decent WiFi, plenty of outlets to charge devices, and calming atmosphere not super busy like some of the other coffee shops, which makes it a study haven.
