Ok so I think may need to remortgage the house if I was to hangout here every day but as a special treat (or weekly indulgence to enjoy life ;-)) it's worth it. We went for the oak and rare flights with 3 glasses each for less than £20 each - perfect for an aperitif before dinner next door at Norse. The staff were super friendly, professional and knowledgable. At first I did think this is the worst name I'd ever heard for a place since Ned Flanders 'Leftorium' - but it really grew on me the more I've thought about it. Maybe because the experience was so nice and chilled out - it could be called anything!

Everyone also knows that I'm a cheapskate but I thought the tasting flights were super reasonable and very generous at £12 for 3. I was also really impressed at the shop bottle prices which for 'exclusive grower champagne' were much less than I thought for such a unique product...I will be heading back to sample some more next time I'm up north although I think there is an online shop now too...hmmm options!

It's a classic real ale pub with a firm live music policy, and although the seating is extremely modest, that doesn't stop folk from packing in here on a Wednesday or Friday night to sink a few pints and soak in the sounds. The staff have always been fantastic and the drinks were alway reasonably cheap. They've a small array of outside seating and being located so close to the train station it's an ideal spot for those hoping to indulge in a few before catching the last train back to Leeds, as I always was, or those looking for a decent pint after stepping off the train. Although the pub isn't managed by the same folk as when I used to frequent here, it seems like it's still a prime spot for those after a more low-key and friendly atmosphere. There's not much else to it, except great pints and fabulous music. I'm surely biased as I've always had such a great time here, but I doubt it can have changed that much over the years. Watch out for Peculiar Blue, Dr Blue and The Welsh T Band amongst other solid local favourites!

Although I do love tasting wine and experimenting with new varieties, I generally despise the atmosphere of wine bars. In my experience, the pretentiousness of them seems to be overwhelming. I think Lazy Lounge avoids this pitfall admirably. Their passion for wine is evident not only due to the extensive menu, but also through wine tasting events they offer at the venue. The evenings exhibit various tipples from one particular country and with Australia and Spain on the horizon, I feel a visit is imminent. The food I have sampled at Lazy Lounge has been perfectly pleasant. Full meals are on offer, although I have mainly tried the bar snacks and sharing platters - ideal for social grazing. I used to live in close proximity to Lazy Lounge and it often proved to be a convenient and enjoyable meeting place for friends. Lazy Lounge is a few minutes walk from the back of the train station and is underneath an apartment block. This is a lovely bar / lounge and is a great place for young (& not so young) professionals and anyone who likes great food, great wine, great cocktails, great music, great service and a great atmosphere. My friend and I had a really good winetasting last week. Our sommelier was knowledgeable, fun and just happened to be one of the joint owners / managers. We tasted 3 whites and 3 reds including one of the nicest malbecs i've had. The cheeseboard was also lovely and I tried (and loved) brie for the first time. Now to the food. I could go on about the food here for the longest time, but I won't. Let me just say that last week I had the lazy gourmet burget and my friend and I went back AGAIN this week and took someone else with us. We all had the lazy gourmet burger. This is burger heaven - seriously. It had meat, bacon, cheese, onion rings, salad (i think) and came served with homemade chips, yes CHIPS - WHOOP!, coleslaw, and some caramelised red onion. This is seriously good food. We were too full to move for a while but that didnlt stop us getting jealous when we saw the table next to us having the fish and chips!! There is nothing negative that I can say about Lazy Lounge but for those who find it hard to believe a review unless it has something negative, let me say that the cheese sauce (served seperately to accompany the burger) wasnt necessary. That's all. Needless to say i'll be going back. Just hope I can hold out until next week!

If you want a little bit of that New York glitz and glamour in Leeds I think I've found your venue…read more By some great fortune I discovered that Epernay were putting on a free Champagne tasting the other night and so, having not been along before, I popped along with a friend to sample the delights of their fizz. Oh my goodness. It must be some kind of crime that I've not visited this heavenly venue before. As you enter through the glass doors to the indoor-outdoor courtyard great glass windows depicting waxen champagne bottles, candles and rustically beautiful décor promise of the decadence to pop forth. As my friend and I wandered in we were greeted warmly and immediately offered to discard our coats and replace them with a glass of the Henriot Brut. (Forgive me if I've misnamed this, we tried several!) The staff were all incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about their fayre, which only made the bubbles seem sweeter, and we took a seat to chat and indulge in some high class Champagne. In all I think we sampled about three from the Henriot range, including a 100% Chardonnay number and a rosé, all of which were sweet, palatable and incredibly moreish. I'm told they have a range that changes monthly, I believe, which you can purchase by the glass. This is excellent as it's not every day that you can afford to go a whole bottle, whereas a treat of a glass or two is rather more affordable. Mind you, when the bubbles go to your head you'd be sorely tempted to sip some more as the range is simply delightful. We chose to stay for one more night-cap after the event and decided it would rude not to try out some of the champagne cocktails. I'm not much of a cocktail drinker, nor a champagne drinker, but this was no problem as the staff were simply fantastic at suggesting which ones to try. The passion each of them has for their craft is evident and a million miles away from your standard bar. Having several staff suggest the London 1875 and the Elderbubble we went for those. As they were being crafted we had a wonderful chat with the staff, again cementing the quality of the service as friendly, welcoming and efficient. At £6.50 per drink it's certainly not somewhere I can envisage affording all night long (Lionel Richie, now playing in my mind!) but for a few seriously special drinks it seems there is no other venue. Now, for the cocktails. Oh my goodness me. Trying to articulate the delicious flavour is going to be a feat - all I can say is that they infuse the Beefeater gin on site with Earl Grey tea (one of the staff's concoctions I'm told) and it was utterly delicious. The delicacy of the Elderbubble was equally as delightful, both being sweet, soft and subtle on the palate. Both are a drink that you will want to indulge in again and again and again. I'm certain 'll be back, I just need some kind of excuse - perhaps my birthday can come once a month rather than once a year. Quite simply a true delight in Leeds and if you've not yet been I urge you to visit. You'll find all the decadence, delight and divinity of a fantastic Champagne bar, with not a sniff of the pretense. Glorious!

Whether it has been a personal triumph or educational success, Epernay has provided a fantastic celebratory atmosphere. Whilst I am not a connoisseur of champagne, I do appreciate sampling its different varieties and learning the individual characteristics of each. I commend the bar staff at Epernay for offering their expertise on numerous occasions without patronising me, in what can be an industry steeped in pretentiousness. With champagne from more than 21 houses, the amount of varieties is staggering. Epernay have decorated the venue to be fairly understated, yet stunningly beautiful. The exposed brickwork and contemporary furniture contrast magnificently with the more traditional appearance of dripping candles in champagne bottles. A covered balcony in the attractively developed Electric Press building, provides the atmosphere of drinking al fresco, without having to rely on the temperament of the British weather. This charming little haven offers a selection of antipasti style nibbles, their flavoursome olives are a regular favourite. I do find the venue a little unpalatable on evenings during the weekend, with significantly more punters out to impress, but I think that is the reality in many city centre bars. I will always consider Epernay to be a superior venue to celebrate, congratulate and generally appreciate good champagne.

The tunes were good - not the usual music, which made a welcome change - while the atmosphere was simple electric. Was pretty excited on the night too, so excited I left my card in the wine machine which made me look like a total amateur. It's much more spacious inside than I had realised, and there are also seats and heaters outside with a great view of the nearby row of traditional pubs with the town hall in the background. I enjoyed trying the various wines (the smallest amount is often £2-3 so you can try a good four wines on a £10 card pre-payment) and could even tell that some of them tasted different, so am basically going to be earning my MW in no time. They also do a few little snacks - my fave baba ghanoush and some rather tasty crisps, although the brown olives tasted too sour for me. Tap water came chilled in a delightful glass bottle. Although I now work for an independent wine merchant in Didsbury and am considered a bit of a fussy geek by my friends, I have longed for a good wine bar in Manchester pretty much since I arrived in town over 6 years ago, well before wine was a big thing for me. A few places have attempted it, half-heartedly for some, but none had so far succeeded. Then came Salut wines, first baby business of a lovely couple who like me love good wine and thought it deserved proper representation in the City Centre. An ambitious project that was, not without hurdles. But tenacity paid off and behold, a superb, clean, warm and welcoming wine bar where odd ins once was. Enomatic machines a-go-go, 32 wines are available by the glass at any point in (opening) time. That's 16 whites and rosés and 16 reds. Thanks to these machines you can enjoy a vast variety of wines, all of which are way above your house plonk from most pubs/bars/restaurant. And that's not all. 3 measures are available: 50ml, 125ml and 175 ml. The first one is my favourite. I can play to my heart's content and try a lot of wine before it's time to call it a day. Most wines are between £1.20 and £5 for a glass but you can also try some of the fancier stuff that would NEVER be available by the glass otherwise. Risk-free. Whilst they do not cater, a range of nibbles and tapas plates are available and it's perfectly suitable for a light lunch or diner. Cheese, cured meats and Mediterranean veggie plates, all made with very good ingredients. Music is top notch, not your average lounge "elevator" type nor your bass-boosted frenzy. Blues, jazz, pop, electro... To sum-up, great atmosphere, best wine selection in town, excellent service. The bottle prices to take away are on the steep side of I'm honest but I'll put that down as the location.

This was my attitude after the best restaurant in Cookridge (Est Est Est) was overhauled a couple of years back and turned into a Gusto. I had been going to Est Est Est regularly and thought of it as the perfect Italian restaurant, and viewed the change with suspicion. I needn't have worried - Gusto is simply the new name for Est Est Est, and although they claim it to be a different restaurant, little has really changed, which is a good thing in my eyes. They do brilliant Italian classics simply and successfully, and there is always a special buzz about the place, almost as if the customers know how good their food is going to be. Some have said the portions are small, but to me they're spot on, allowing you to have three courses without feeling bloated, followed by an authentic espresso of course. Gusto, thankfully, is simply Est Est Est with a different name.

Sometimes this can look really tacky and a bit in your face but paired with the ultra modern decor it looks perfect.  You walk straight in to the bar area where the very attentive bar staff await to take your order. The only problem is their drinks menu is full of such tempting looking things I'm always spoilt for choice! Once you are ready to take your seat the manager takes you through to your table. The first time I walked into the dining area here I was like wow! The delicate fairy light theme is carried right through but this time they are encased around a tree that stands in the middle of the restaurant. Yes a tree! This isn't just your average restaurant it was built around a 200 year old olive tree that is now the central feature of their dining area. The menu is large yet the quality is most definitely not effected. Every time I visit the menu has been revised slightly as they seem to constantly be trying to make their dishes better and adjust them to suit the season.  I am a huge fan of pate but I can be quite picky with it. Theirs is the best I have ever tasted, served with crisp breads I could eat it forever. The chicken primavera is the best pasta dish I have ever eaten. The vegetables are seasonal which really reflects in the taste and it is cooked to perfection. The chicken is plentiful and very juicy and flavoursome. Within the restaurant they also have an open part of the kitchen where you can see the pizzas being made fresh and put into the pizza oven. My dad orders a pizza every time he comes here as he says they are the best pizzas he has ever had. Even better than the ones he had in Italy! I have not had the chance to sample the dessert menu yet as the portion sizes are pretty big so I am always stuffed when it comes to the final course. Everything in the place is pretty much perfect. The staff are friendly and attentive, the tree is beautiful and the the food is amazing. I really urge everyone to try it out, Its more than worth the little trip out of town for some really special.
