I want to digress away from being negative, but I see a bunch of reviews here, and I question their…read moreauthenticity. After 3 months at Ubrn, I can say that it seems many of these reviews may have been written by staff encouraged to do so, simply to flood out the negative reviews. I even believe one of these is even from a sub lifeguard who no-called, no-showed at my site once. For some time, I wasn't going to leave a review, but after reflecting on my experience with Ubrn, I feel it's important to share what was a very horrible experience for me.
During my orientation, which was just days before I got on-site, I was told I might need to be mindful of my AM because they were upset they didn't get my job. Having been in similar situations before and being able to turn them around, I was still really nervous about going into a site where I'd have to tiptoe around my AM who could potentially sabotage me. Despite reassurances that he would be receptive, I sensed problems early on during the Zoom introduction, where he ignored me and dismissed my questions. It was clear from that day he wasn't receptive, and we should have anticipated the issues. The two OMs on the Zoom call ignored the obvious tension, despite my pleas and concerns that this would not end well.
I got to the site finally , and the site was being run horribly. It was filthy, staff were hanging around most of the day not doing a single thing, people came in when they wanted and left when they wanted--there were no rules or decorum. Ubrn seemed to think this low quality service was acceptable.
Unfortunately, later on the AM went on to sabotage me, essentially ruining the pool on the 4th of July, the busiest day of the year. That morning, no lifeguards were on-site, and I was the only person there as the manager, which was unacceptable, especially with a cloudy pool and a line of swimmers waiting. The AM faced no consequences for the pool issue, but I did :/ Despite this, I continued to work hard, but I was constantly disrupted and sabotaged by the AM and some staff who favored him. This included an individual who threatened me on-site yet was allowed to keep his position in the company.
Finally, the AM and the company decided to part ways. They had no better option for an AM for me except for one person who, during the interview, said he wanted a very specific schedule. I then listened to the OM offer him a schedule completely outside of what he wanted, while continuously moving on as if he agreed to it. It was icky. The AM I ended up getting had already been demoted from another site, but he seemed genuinely interested in helping me. That was a lie...
On his first shift as AM, he was four hours late without any communication. When I asked why, he claimed to have "bigger priorities." It took considerable effort to get him written up by the OM, yet he signed his offer letter the day after this incident, which ultimately led to our termination. He should have been let go immediately to show the building they took this serious.
I only wanted to do my best and leave on great terms with the company and the building. In my time there, the building saw a 180-degree turn. Staff were better about greeting and speaking to residents, the pool was clean--it was probably the best it had been in four years of the company managing the site. I knew at this point the building had decided to let us go, but I still felt it was my job to uphold the best we could.
Unfortunately, working that hard didn't matter, as the company informed me that I would be on unemployment due to the site closing. They provided next to nothing in writing; I had to request an email stating I was being let go. From the day we were informed, till the time I was told I would have to go on unemployment it was almost a three week gap that nobody from management sat down and spoke to anybody. They waited weeks to tell me, and the other staff we were getting fired. Sadly, I had to let my staff know before the company did simply because someone else in the company told a resident who then shared it on Facebook.
