Yelp 100 Challenge 2019 - #64/100…read more The first store we went to was Kath Kitson's, the feminine, flowery stuff is not really my style. I did find some breakaway lanyards that I can definitely use for my work ID. Then we checked out Kipling. It is pricier than the stuff that I can get Stateside but the designs here are a lot more exciting. Spent most of our time in Super Dry and found some good deals. Then took a coffee break at Starbucks then continued with our shopping spree. Found the cutest coat at Joules. The workers in each store were super friendly and helpful. Their toilets were nice, clean, and well-maintained. There was enough parking spots.
I ambled around this seriously over-priced place for about half an hour. When the pound to euro…read moreratio was near one forty it was still overpriced, and now its only ten per cent then it has almost zero attraction for me. I walked by an on - street doughnut & coffee cart and their idea of a deal for a coffee and doughnut was €5. I'm pleased to say that my money stayed in my pocket. I also priced a sweet/savoury crepe stall but again their cheapest sweet crepe offering was about €5 with savoury more expensive. No chance; I have no intention of handing over five euro for fifteen cents worth of pancake batter and yes I know some sugar and stuff will be added but even with that, the mark-up is eye watering and I simply refuse to be ripped off. Still I was determined to see if someone could entice me to spend money and I came across a Thai street food place and while it was near noon and devoid of customers the smell of cooking oil invaded the area. So that was enough to persuade me to keep walking. The place is very well kept and their little flower displays and some of their art and sculpture are pretty indeed. I departed with the same amount of money as I arrived with. My wife of course well that's a whole other story.

Think of this place as a little bit indie. They sell a few brands that I have always loved - Poetic License and Irregular Choice, which I haven't found anywhere else in Dublin. The prices aren't bad, and the sale prices are awesome. Lots of pairs are half off or even more! Definitely check this place out if you're not interested in the cookie cutter party girl look.

She looks at the legs and feet poking out, measures the feet and gets a selection of runners for himself. The selection was big and well chosen.... All bright, boyish and garish as hell. I spotted the ones he would go for immediately - not the most expensive (but not cheap), but by far the brightest most garish runners I have ever seen - they even had lights, lots of lights. Within 2 mins he had them on He didn't take them off for 3 days. Great shop, great (and very tolerant) staff.

The staff there are the most helpful shop assistants I have ever come across and are consistently friendly and just plain nice to customers, even when they are very busy and under pressure such as at present during the sale and parents trying to get shoes for children going back to school etc. I was there recently and bought a fantastic pair of Reiker sandals for a mere €35 less than half the original price. I also tried on the most comfortable pair of shoes that I have put on my bunioned feet - Pitilos with a nice heel height and classic stylish look, but they didn't have my size in the navy colour that I so wanted to match a lovely new dress! However, the helpful assistant whom I dealt with Sinead, saw how disappointed I was and went above and beyond the call of duty and said she would check around all the other shops to see if she could locate a pair for me - by the way they have stores all over the country from Maynooth, Newbridge, covering the whole of the midlands and some of the West as far as Galway. I had only left the shop an hour when Sinead called me and said she had located a pair for me in the Athlone shop and would have them delivered to Maynooth within a week where I could pick them up. In fact, much to my surprise I got a call again from Sinead within 3 days saying that they had now got the shoes in and I could call to collect them!...which of course I did, much to my delight and even better to get them again at the reduced price of €37 from the original €85 - was I trilled or what! So if you want to bag a bargain, head straight to Paul Byron Shoes. Incidentally, I have discovered that they also have a very good online shop, but because of my 'troublesome' feet, I am one of these people who simply has to try on the shoes first before purchasing.

They really have everything under one roof in this branch so if you are a bargain hunter I would highly recommend it - the kids section is also very large. Don't be put off if you've been to some of the smaller ones where there is stuff everywhere. Also there is very rarely a Q to pay or for the changing rooms so it really is a nice shopping experience. The shop is upstairs and tucked into a back corner of the "Fashion City" campus in Ballymount Industrial estate. I came looking for Amphibian King, who specialise in running shoes and gear. I visited at off-peak hours so I had loads of time to ask questions and get recommendations on both runners and different types of socks from a helpful member of staff. He really seemed to know his stuff, he could tell me what I needed (and why!) and he was pretty straight with me about the actual differences in performance between shoes at different price points. First impressions of this shop is that there is excellent selection and range but you are tempted to go through the racks to find your size, as you might anywhere. However you do need the help of the shop assistant as they keep a lot of their selection in the back or, in some cases only have one of that size, which can be annoying. The shop assistant was so rude on the day I was there. She wanted to tell us that everything was pretty and was clearly just hunting for a sale. When she didn't like something so much, rather than be honest, she'd just stay quiet or ask if you liked it. Her style was definitely at odds with my own and rather than accept that and just help with sizes, she got very snippy with me. Ordinarily, I'd mark a business down to one or two for this type of service. However, I did think the selection was good and the shop was quite roomy. Plus, she may have been having a bad day! The actual clothes for the most part are pitched at women 50+ yet there are a few gems in the occasion dresses for the younger punter. The sizes are very small fitting. You'll have to be prepared to move up the range. It seemed to range from 6-16 with a mix in also of S-L. You'll be actively encouraged by the staff to head up the road to the seamstress to get adjustments made. The accessories selection is sparse. Interestingly, they had some great coats and wraps and throw tops, great, I thought in particular for covering arms. Take a deep breath and exercise diplomacy when you go in here and I think you'll find a gem!
