Most recently we went to the opening of Martin Wittfooth's "Deus Ex Terra" and it was a blast. Everyone around was really engaged with the art, the artist was there answering questions, and I dug the DJ's setting the mood inside. The gallery is huge, clean, and thoughtfully laid out, with multiple rooms showcasing different artists. The art they bring in is always unique, fascinating, and beautifully presented. Parking is easy (although it is in a bit of a rough area, so be prepared for that), the staff is friendly, and the space inside feels welcoming. This has become one of my favorite galleries in LA.

I'm from the city, a little protest doesn't scare me, so I walked past the megaphones to check out this "View from the Cheap Seats." Well I'll be damned, I don't know what the artist Richard Hoblock considers "cheap" but it sure as hell isn't the $20,000 paintings that look like a 5 year old found exactly two paint colors and decided to splosh them on a canvas. Is this "fine art?" Top it off with an elderly white man complaining loudly to the gallery about how he's been so attacked by the people outside, and I'm thinking, dude, you're making $20,000 a painting, and the protesters are frustrated they can't afford $2,000 studio apartments. Get grateful man. Is this what art has come to? I'd expect a lot more love and soul from an artist. Come to read later, the artist called the FBI on the youth protesters and claimed there was a hate crime against him. A white man. In a brown neighborhood. The View From the Cheap Seats and my experience at Chimento was surely, tacky, cheap (despite your price tags), low-class and I'm glad I decided to make my own decision about this gallery - because it sucked. I agree you should leave the neighborhood and take your "fine art" with you. I was really looking forward to seeing the FEED artists but I guess you kicked them out.

Jonathan Novak Contemporary Art has been in this location for over 17 years showing abstraction as well as photorealism: Dine, Thiebaud, Botero, Lichtenstein, Long, Katz, Hodgkin, just to name a few. Call first to check on their hours, but for sure Monday through Friday. If you are looking to purchase established, blue chip artists, this is the place to go. You won't find emerging artists here, only the tried and true, featuring museum-quality artworks.

Everyone's piece were spaced apart evenly and hung at a good height. The art was unique and had different media. Some of the pieces had glass in front so it was a bit hard to take pictures. The lighting brought out the colors though. Fantastic work. Such colors!! I'm a huge fan of Miyazaki so I try to visit all his tribute stuff. C R O W D S It was so crowded that not even the artists could stand near their work. It would have been nice if there were space where the artist could set up a booth and continue drawing or get to know the artist. I couldn't believe this event was so crowded. It wrapped around the building! I've been to so many art events and this one was the first one that was a little suffocating! P A R K I N G Parking is ridiculously busy here. Recommend carpooling. Watch signs carefully. I've gotten tickets here before!
