Joke apart, i really like coming here, not really a Cocktail drinker, but i always let them surprise me with some cool creations. I have to say the Singapore Sling is pretty awesome. Music is more a background kind of music which is pretty good if you're here with more than 2 people because you can actually have a conversation. The whole atmosphere is pretty relaxed, and chilled. The location is also pretty good, just a couple of feet away from Chlodwigplatz. Also one more plus is that they have Free WiFi and the cherry on top is that they accept CC's. So this is pretty much the kind of places i hope to find more often here, and as me if you're used to get treated right, and have a top service, this is the place to go.

There were lots of bars close by to the east and northeast. Many of these were not hopping, but had a few clientele sitting quietly outside having drinks. It seemed like a city with tons of potential, but it was a Wednesday night and things were fairly slow. I wandered back to my hotel bar and got to know Julian, the bartender, who spent the "best year of his life" in Seattle and has excellent command of the English language. I got him to make SoCo Lime shots for everyone at the bar as a token of American tradition. People were very receptive to the gesture and seemed to enjoy the concoction. I felt very at home while extending goodwill to my hosts. Yes, there are many other bars nearby that offer more of a local flavor, but if you are feeling homesick, this is a good place to chill.

Ambiance (3.5/5): Harry's New York Bar is located in a hotel, though the bar has its own entrance, too. Think of it as an elegant hotel bar. Comfortable seating. Spacious. Along with a long bar which has some bar seating as well. So why not a higher rating for their ambiance? Well, this is pretty wild but there was a rat walking around while we were there. We told the bartender about it, but he didn't seem too concerned with the situation. I sure hope rats are not frequent guests here! Service (4/5): Outside of the rat situation, our bartender did a good job. Service in Europe doesn't tend to be terribly attentive, friendly, or efficient. And in Germany, they will often kick you out right when it's closing time. Not the case here. The bartender let us stay for a good while after they closed. Which I always appreciate. They even give you some snacks to munch on with your cocktail. That was a nice touch. Food (N/A): Outside of the complimentary snacks, we had dinner prior so I was on a liquid diet. Drinks (4.5/5): You would think that Harry's New York Bar is an American bar given the name. That's what I thought initially. I was wrong. Harry was a famous bartender in the U.K. who invented several famous cocktails. So that's what you should have here. They have a solid list of craft cocktails, many of them with an interesting blend of flavors and ingredients. I was happy with mine, though you will pay a premium here since it's a hotel bar. Harry's New York Bar has locations across the world. I was happy to check out my very first one in Cologne.

In fact they are probably butcher-sized (not that I have found any pubs in Australia that actually serve butchers). I actually quite like these small beers, though for some reason I would prefer a little more. Anyway, this bar is pretty much dedicated to the guy that geeks the world over love and admire. In fact, if you are a geek, and you are in Cologne then this is a bar that you should check out. I knew about it, but didn't actually know where it was, that is until I was wandering through the back alleys of the old city and discovered it.
