As a solo female guest I was completely comfortable in the Pension. My room had two single beds, a…read moreprivate bath/shower, a wardrobe and a table and chair. I had a balcony that looked upon the backyard which had goats and other small animals. The included breakfast was simple but delicious with fresh Brötchen, butter, jams, cheeses, ham, salami, and coffee and tea. The town itself is quite small but there's lots to do in the area including seasonal hiking, skiing, sightseeing, a large water park, and mountain bike riding on a cultivated course accessed by gondola.
I came to do some local hiking I found in a book but the proprietor (Josef) told me to forget my book and he'd give me hikes to do each day. So that's exactly what we did--each morning at breakfast he'd tell me a route to take and I'd follow his instructions and map. The hikes were amazing!! There's no way I'd have found these places without a local guide to help me. The best hike of all was Tappenkarsee Alm, an amazing high alpine lake and Hütte serving lunch, dinner, and rustic overnight lodging for hikers (I recommend taking a bus to the Jägersee and beginning the hike from there instead of walking all the way from Wagrain).
This is a comfortable Pension that feels just like home, with a friendly proprietor who is willing to help maximize your stay. His English is passable (so is my German) and together we could communicate with no problems. Non-German speakers should familiarize yourself with some helpful German vocabulary.
