I have been to this firehouse a few times on occasion in the past, and I can say it's a nice station with a great group of volunteers. I always appreciate all the interaction with the kids and the community through the open houses and community days they host. That's always something that they do not have to do but they do and that is what makes this station awesome!

Terrie Swavely In the quiet suburbs of Doylestown,…read morePennsylvania, the Swavely family---Terrie, Ralph, and their son Eric---were known for their deep roots in the community. Their home sat on a leafy street just minutes from the historic town center, where the sound of the evening siren from the Doylestown Fire Company No. 1 was a familiar rhythm of life. In July 2025, during one of Pennsylvania's most humid summers, Terrie decided to visit the fire station on Shawell Avenue. She brought with her two large trays of homemade lemon bars, a tradition she started to thank the volunteers for their service. The bay doors were cranked open to catch a breeze, exposing the gleaming red engines. As Eric chatted with a young firefighter about the mechanics of the ladder truck, Terrie shared stories with the crew about how the town had changed over the decades. The visit was brief, but the warmth of the graditude she felt for the first responders lingered long after they left. By November 2025, the landscape has shifted into a mosaic of burnt orange and deep red. The air was crisp, and the Swavely household was preparing for the upcoming holidays. Terrie returned to the station on a chilly Tuesday afternoon, this time accomplanied by Ralph. They were there to drop off a donation for the company's annual toy drive. The atmosphere in the station was different than it had been in July; the summer humidity was replaced by the small of wax and motor oil and the cold air. The firefighters were busy checking equipment for the winter season, but they recognized Terrie immediately. They stood in the engine bay, Ralph shaking hands with the Chief while Terrie arranged the donated gifts. As they walked back toward Broadale Court, the Swavelys felt a quiet pride in their town, knowing that even as the years passed, the spirit of service at the Doylestown Fire Company remained a constant anchor in their lives.

If you've seen the outside of this fire station, you know it's a pretty old building and the inside is no different. The hall is old and there was a musty smell inside. Tables and chairs are provided and there is a small kitchen area in the back. For the kids party, it worked out fine. On the way out, one of the firemen pulled out the fire truck and let the kids climb on in. As you can imagine, the kids really enjoyed this! The kids were pretty much allowed anywhere except the drivers seat. The volunteer fireman even took time to show off some of the tools and talked to the parents about the different engines and gave a little history of the firehouse. The kids got to even wear the same hats that the firemen do. I don't think this happens with every party here as the hosts seemed surprised by the whole thing, but it was a pleasant surprise. I have to say, the two volunteer men were absolutely wonderful with the kids.

Did you know some fire departments have banquet halls? "EYE" myself did not! Upper Gwynedd Fire…read moreDept. has a pretty nice hall. There's private parking. However, locating the lot is a bit confusing considering it's located behind the houses next door and behind the fire department. The entrance is inviting, with a few chairs for sitting. It's also open enough that you can get some good photo ops in before entering the entertaining space. They have separate restrooms for men and women as opposed to unisex ones. The bathrooms are kept pretty well stocked you'd think there was a bathroom attendant. They had everything from pocket tissues to shout wipes! There's a kitchen for the caterer and bar space for drinks. A drawback to the hall is that there's only one room. The wedding I attended also had the reception there. This means you have to transform the the room to prepare the tables. And just where are your guests supposed to go while they wait to be served food? Oh outside? Down the street at Pizza Saloon? Cool....I guess We we can go eat before we eat...??! No biggie, right?! Nope! I got to explore. Although, for this particular event we had to leave, I'm sure this hall would suffice for a a regular gathering without 2-parts because it is a nice size. You can bring in your own caterer, bartender, photographer, etc and it appeared to be staff to assist but I'm not to sure. So if your in the market to party! Gwynedd Fire Department might be your spot!! Just don't burn the roof down.
