You think that I'd get nice hot crispy fries but NOPE! Now I normally get just a reg teen burger but today I decided on the double. Burger was okay, patties were dry and felt like they were sitting for a bit and not warmed up. Bacon was good, topping were good. Only reason this gets a 3 is because I can't give 2.5. The buns are okay, nothing too fancy, pretty much the same thing you find at the grocery store (and not the fresh baked ones either.) The fries......... The fries are so strange! But not strange in a good way. Flaky and dry, like all the potato got dehydrated WITHIN the outer skin. Sometimes you can get a real gritty bite as if the potatoes weren't even washed. For a skin on fry, they lack the potato essence. No, they lack anything resembling potato except the outside as that is the only thing that resembles a fry. The gravy is thin and watery and so damn salty you automatically reach for water to wash it down. Nothing about the gravy is good unless you enjoy super over salted water gravy. Now when you take those fries and gravy and add cheese to the mix to make a poutine, the fries INSTANTLY absorb all the liquid and leave you with a layer of grease and brown sauce that almost has the right consistency. But the gravy just isn't hot enough to even melt shredded cheese and that makes me very sad. The service depends on who's working. Sometimes you get ones who wear crop tops and short shorts, sometimes you get the really good ones. Other times you get the owner and things just go from okay to crap. If you want to drink meh coffee and listen to gossip this is the epicenter of gossip talkers. It is like they know everything about everyone and before you even know it you are finding out things about yourself that you didn't even know about yourself! Not to mention how the owner treats their employees....... but we won't get into that. Over all, if you want food that has no love or moisture and you get a workout from chewing (if you can even put it in your mouth) then come to Kaylob's. Otherwise steer clear of the place!
