Do not go to this doctor. He is too old to be practicing! Office is a dump. Put me on antibiotics for no reason.

According to the reviews on here, I will not be seeking out this dentist to have surgery on my jaw!!! I fell at a gas station cuz there was a metal piece sticking up from the ground with no flag or sign advising so I fell flat on my face without anything blocking the hit because my hands were full, and my jaw slipped out of place and now I can't touch my teeth together, can't rip the meat off my ribs and I can't take a bite out of a sandwich or burger because it hurts so much and my teeth are now misaligned due to my fall. I got a brain in jury from the fall and didn't find out about my jaw until 4 years after the fall because it took that long for my jaw to slowly slip out of place to where I noticed. I only thought I gashed my eye, but no, I have a brain injury, narcolepsy, and I sleep 4-4.5 days a week every week. I also lucid dream, and I call it my other home now because as soon as I slip into sleep, I go right back to where I left off when I woke up and left there. So, I can't sue because I had no idea I had a brain injury or a misaligned jaw that calls for a dentist specialized in oral surgery, orthognatic surgery, TMJ, and class 3 malocclusion, which my dentist said is the hardest and most painful operation to heal from (about 12 months!!) I am not putting this humongous job into the hands of someone who is past his prime. He should go home and watch Price Is Right and sip mimosas with his wife and his toy poodle named Dolly. Not only is this going to be an extensive surgery, but it is going to cost an arm and a leg for my insurance company and a very long recovery time, and I don't want Mr. Skeleton Hands to do the job! I trust reviews when they are lengthy, detailed, and honest because the ones that say he's so great, the office staff is friendly and helpful, and the office is clear, and the doctor is always on time and alert! They are lying or they are sucking up because they happened to have had a cleaning that went well or their parents are friends of theirs. Reviews that give me the low down and dirty I believe and I listen to. I am doing that with this one!!! "A real professional in every way" and "He is sensitive, professional & a top notch surgeon" sounds like some donkey dung to me! read more

Only did 1 star because it wouldn't let me post review with no stars!! Do not go to this practice. Office is outdated and feels dirty, staff is rude and short with patients from booking to billing, Dr runs super late and then rushes you through, office doesn't call to confirm or give any instructions in prep for very serious and expensive procedures. I cancelled my apt 5 months before my procedure, they never called to confirm then day of the canceled procedure they call to say I'm late when I explain to the receptionist that I canceled months ago they denied I did and when I asked why they never called to confirm 24-48 hrs prior to the procedure they lied saying they did when I had no record of calls from the office. Then had nerve to send a bill for a missed procedure which I am fighting and will report to BBB if it doesn't get resolved. I have phone logs etc of my calls to them and of no calls from them. The Dr is rushed and the staff is so rude and unprofessional, they hung up on me! Overall should RUN in opposite direction from this practice. read more

Harvey Shuster, DDS should truly consider hanging up his dental tool bag. He is way past his prime in the dental world. His office is completely outdated. There are way more better choices when it comes to oral surgeons. He and his office are way off the path of innovative. Harvey Shuster also has a staff that takes rude, unpolished and unprofessional to a new level. They act as his posse in his awful practice. They probably remain with him because they wouldn't make it anywhere else. Do your homework. read more

Dr. harvey got the work done..had to pull out my wisdom tooth. But I would give all -ve points to the other support staffs in the clinic...the nurse who helped the doc durig the surgery..forgot that its my mouth and continued rattling the suction pipe inside, very roughly. Also the billing staff were pathetic as they were not able to process my insurance correctly..and it is still delayed after 3 months. Getting appointmnet was easy and the doctor was knowledgeable. read more

I had seen doctor for both my daughter for a tooth extraction and myself for a lump in my mouth. The first issue for my daughter was fine. Her experience was not terrific, ...we believed she either may have had a bit too much novocaine or had a reaction to it. However the reaction was mild and she recovered without much incidence and his office called a day later to check on her recovery. My experience was not as pleasant. I was sent to him years later from my dentist. He examined my mouth and determined he had to cut out an odd shaped section ... which was excruciating from which to recover! Though I agree this was necessary as the biopsy confirmed. However when I returned a few months later as directed, since he then wanted to "watch the area" every 3 months, he decided to cut another section out... nearly as large as the first. I had not arrived with any problems this time...though afterwards, he was looking through my file and saw I had a disease that might have falsely created what looked like another problem! When you go to a doctor or dentist, especially with serious problems...and tell them your medical background...things like trust, intelligence, thoroughness are expected... Since we don't know enough..we didn't go to med./dent. school to ask all the questions along the way. read more

I had my wisdom teeth extracted by Dr. Shuster. I was not totally numb for part of the surgery, but he continued despite me moaning in pain. The very next day I was already experiencing issues that were cause for concern. I was unable to open my mouth, which was stated to be a symptom that needed to be addressed on the directions given to me by his office, which I called twice before getting a response. He asked me to come in the next morning, and I was told that my lower right incision sight was infected. He irrigated the wound and had me come in for follow ups every few days for approximately two weeks, and when I asked if the infection was gone he never said yes or no, but "we are headed in the right direction." Before I ended up back in his office, I received a statement for the amount my insurance company was going to be billed. Part of that statement was $2,500 for a biopsy he performed but never told me about. A few weeks after he said I no longer needed to come in, I began to experience soreness in the lower right side of my jaw, which he initially said could be from having my neck manipulated by a chiropractor. He told me to come in several days later when the pain had gotten increasingly worse, and my face was starting to swell. He said the infection was not from my surgical sight, but from the tooth next to it needing a root canal, and he referred me to an Endodontist. The next day my face swelled substantially and the pain I was in was unbearable. My primary dentist saw me first and took an x-ray of the tooth Dr. Shuster said I needed a root canal in, and did not agree that that was the case, and he called his office to inform him. About an hour later I returned to Dr. Shuster's office because the infection needed to be drained. He spent fifteen minutes looking at my scans and tried to convince me that I needed a root canal. Five minutes after he finally numbed me, he began to put gloves on, and I proceeded to tell him that I wasn't numb. He said it was okay that he was just going to take a look around. He began the surgery before I was numb, and I spent approximately 20 minutes of what was probably a 25-minute surgery, screaming in excruciating pain. He continued the surgery despite my screams, stopping once to give me more Novocain when all I needed was time for it to actually take effect. When the surgery was over he said, "sometimes you have to cause a little pain to make things better." Not only did he cause me immeasurable pain, but he did not make things better. When I went to the Endodontist a few days later, my face was much more swollen and had become hard to the touch. She also did not think I needed a root canal, but confirmed that the infection had gotten worse, and was now in the muscle of my cheek. She drained as much as she could, but the next day it was clear that I was going to need another surgery. Over the next several weeks, I had three more surgery's, the last of which was in Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, where I spent five days being treated for Osteomyelitis, which is an infection of a bone, in my case my jaw bone. I had to have a piece of my jaw bone removed and had to have a PICC line inserted and carried around an infusion pump that administered I.V antibiotics 24 hours a day for nearly seven weeks. read more

Dr. Shuster as a DDS was OK. He was responsive to after hours emergencies, was positive and worked quickly. His support staff and facilities on the other hand - detracted from my experience and his credibility. The assistants and receptionists are rude, insensitive and unprofessional. This did not make me feel confident during my visit. Dealing with billing issues is also proving to be a nightmare. Here are 3 examples that have led me to my conclusion. During my visit, the assistant taking my x-rays, who I must have spoken to 10 times, couldn't get my procedure down. She kept asking, "What are you getting done? - Gas or no gas?" Ok - I thought - she's just double checking. But still it was unnerving that she couldn't bother to look at my chart or listen to what I said the first 10 times and know what she was doing before even taking an x-ray. Here's another example: The gas mask was making it difficult to breathe and I was clearly uncomfortable. The assistant walked out of the room and talked loudly about her Christmas decorations, her boyfriend and ignored me. She shouted back once in the room - "You OK?" - as if I was interrupting their conversation. I said "No, I can't breathe. I want to take this off." She just glared and snipped, "You have to leave it on." And then she left. Strike two. Strike three: The same assistant then shoved a clip board under my face just about when the medicine started to kick in. It was a legal document. When I guess I didn't hand it back in 10 seconds, she barked the date at me. To which I replied - "I know what day it is. I'm READING to know WHAT exactly it is I'm signing off on...." The facilities looked old and dirty. In general the space seemed cluttered and messy. Finally - when it came to resolving an issue with my bill - (a significant one) - the receptionist was short, mean and flat out rude. "I'm busy today" and practically hung up. You don't need to be a medical professional to know that many patients are nervous. Little things can make the experience better. Shuster should consider getting a qualified, professional staff and upgrading the facilities. read more

I initially went in for a consultation appointment with Dr. Shuster because one of my wisdom teeth was bothering me. About an hour later, all four of my wisdom teeth had been removed---quick, clean, and painless. I would highly recommend Dr. Shuster. He is very personable and makes you feel very calm while him and his assistants are preparing you and the room for surgery. He even called me later that afternoon to make sure I was doing alright. read more

Dr. shuster is a life saver! Imagine being in the most excruciating pain due to a severely infected wisdom tooth and being in your 1st trimester (hell on wheels) I called Dr. Shusters office. He saw me the same day, Started me on antibiotics and oral rinses. Waited for the swelling to go down before actually removing the tooth. I was back to work 2 days post procedure. I would recommend him to everyone. His staff is amazing. I absolutely love his assistant. Dr. Shuster is sooo personable and welcoming, gives you his personal number to contact him in case of an emergency. I am so thankful I met his group. read more

Dr. Shuster is awesome. Granted, I have only been to one other oral surgeon in my life, but I can honestly say that Dr. Shuster was above and beyond better. From making me feel comfortable by answering all my questions, to the follow up phone call after my visit, he just treated me as though he honestly cares about his patients well-being, and I think he does. The staff was friendly enough and the office seemed really clean. Overall I would recommend him to anybody in need of a great oral surgeon with fantastic bed-side manner. I would not recommend. I went to his office for a wisdom tooth extraction consultation. My first experience was dealing with his very rude staff at the front desk. Then I was told I was covered for the procedures that day. A few weeks later I get a bill for almost $300 for a procedure that was not covered. Thanks Harvey. I call my insurance and they told me that the dentist knew that procedure was not covered and should have never performed it. My insurance even talked with him on the phone and he said I agreed to the uncovered procedure. I am in my mid twenties and in no way rich. Who in their right mind would say "Yes Harvey, please perform this $300 procedure, I don't mind paying". At the end of the day he didn't even suggest taking out my wisdom's claiming he may damage nerves and leave permanent numbness in my face. It's a good thing I didn't let this man perform any surgery. read more

Terrible experience at this office. Was referred to them by my dentist and they had sent over all necessary info but when I got there I had to sit there forever for them to come and say they don't have the X-rays, then they said those are not the X-rays they need so I was a bit confused which one is right and on top of that without looking at X-rays that I'm positive my dentist sent since I've never had problem with their office and they always go out of their way to help their patients this office wanted to do X-ray agai. The receptionist had major attitude problem her name was "damaris" or something or another. Their examination rooms are filthy dirty and they lack professionalism. I don't recommend them to anyone and if you want to spend all that money on your wisdom teeth removal these folks aren't the one for the job. The one star was because I had to put it here they deserve no stars and frankly it's sad that they are even around for this profession. read more

I probably would not recommend this doctor to anyone. I got my wisdom teeth out by Dr. Schuster and it definitely was not the smoothest procedure. For one, everything was rushed as he would overbook appointments. I waited over an hour to get my stitches out the week after the procedure. The doctor is good, however his staff does not follow through with the insurance procedures, moths/years later you get a bill for services and no one responds when you call them to get it cleared up. Apparently if your insurance company pays less than what they bill they bill you the difference and expect you to pay for it. I only know that because I just got a received a letter today 6/3/2013 from a collection office for services provided in 2010! The billing staff is really unprofessional! read more

Dr. Shuster is AMAZING!!!!!!! I had a tooth that was causing me tremendous pain and he took care of it immediately. He knew right away what the problem was and how to fix it. He and his staff are exceptionally kind and knowledgable, and I feel extremely confident with his expertise. I highly recommend Dr. Shuster. His care for his patients is also clear by his follow-up. Took my husband's elderly Aunt to see her dentist that is in the same building as Dr. Shuster. The Aunt's regular dentist could not get her to bite down to take x-rays, so he suggested that we see if we could get the x-ray done across the hall, since Dr. Shuster has a panoramic x-ray machine, which would make taking x-rays easier. His office staff was nothing short of AMAZING, PATIENT & KIND! Dr. Shuster made some very good suggestions to help guide us thru a difficult situation due to the patient's Alzheimer's. We (Aunt, her Aide & myself) were treated with respect, compassion and dignity. read more

Getting your wisdom teeth taking out is not something anyone looks forward to but I can honestly say that Dr. Shuster actually made the experience easy! He made me feel calm and trust him before doing anything. Throughout the whole procedure he was talking to me and explained what he was doing and what I might feel and/or hear. This helped my nerves a lot. Later on that day, Dr. Shuster followed up with me to make sure that I was feeling ok and made sure that I was doing the proper things to help the healing process. You can tell that he genuinely cares about his patients. A bonus is that Dr. Shuster and his staff are funny so I was entertained the entire time. More importantly, they all were extremely polite and helpful. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Shuster! read more
