On mini-cation to Halls Gap & limited dining options I tried out Livefast Cafe for breakfast…read more Venturing outside my usual comfort zone of poached eggs I opted for the breakfast special of smoked salmon, Cajun spiced field mushroom, cherry tomatoes, spinach with a lemon/sweet paprika sour cream sauce & thankfully a poached egg on sourdough. What I was presented with was a slightly confused looking plate of food. Sadly the only element I enjoyed was the poached egg & sourdough. Whilst each of the components might have worked individually together it was just a mess in both terms of presentation & flavours. Just goes to show that sometimes you should just stick with what you know. The service was friendly & efficient, that said I was one of only 5 customers at the time, so that should be a given. $20 for the brekkie & a mug of coffee was probably about the right price but when the quality is poor you always feel a little cheated about the price you've paid!!!

The main dining room has two open fire places and plenty of room to relax in. The staff here are simply divine. Well presented and very knowledgable on the local produce and wine on offer. The breakfast menu was short and succinct. Offering a little something for everyone. We opted for porridge with poached fruit and poached eggs on toast. A word of warning the meal servings are very generous! While the menu suggests a Melbourne flare, you won't be served up delicate dishes to nibble on. The coffee was so-so but redeemed itself when served in local Bendigo Pottery crafted vessels. Worth a stop by on a chilly mornings drive. Definitely a best of brunch venue.

Still, as a cafe this place was quite nice, and had quite a lot of charm. I had a pot of tea, and it was pretty good, as was the service.
