    Morana Law Office

    Morana Law Office

Two years ago, I went to Morana Law to have a trust established for my aging dad. I was told that…read moreMorana was an expert in this field. We were charged over $16,000 for 2 trusts, POA, healthcare proxy, and will. I had never had to deal with any of this before, so I had no frame of reference as to whether this was a reasonable fee for this type of work. My dad passed last September. Once I felt able to start unwinding his estate, I contacted Morana to get guidance on what I needed to do, in which order. I paid him an additional $880 (one hour of "review" of my file, and one hour zoom call), with the expectation that I would get off that call with a clear checklist of everything I needed to do. I had emailed him prior to the call with my list of questions so he could be fully prepared for our discussion. He answered about 1/4 of the questions I had. For everything else, I was told that "he doesn't handle that" after the trust is created, and I would have to find another lawyer. It was annoying (to say the least) that I wasted time, and more money (which had to be paid in full before the call), especially since I had specifically told him what I needed help with, prior to the call! One would think that he could have replied to my email with a simple, "You know what, almost all of these questions are outside my scope. Here are some attorneys you can contact who will guide you through this next phase." After collecting my thoughts, I emailed him to request at least a partial refund of what I had paid for the "review" and call, since he didn't seem to do any review, nor provide help or guidance. I never heard back from him. The attorney I am working with now informed me that he wouldn't have recommended having things set up the way they were. Granted, two professionals can agree to disagree about planning and final products. However, considering my experience, I did feel taken advantage of. I have been a healthcare professional since 1993. I built my business and my reputation by standing behind my work, and going above and beyond for my patients and clients. I would never have thought to treat a client so shabbily.

I (we) had the worst experience with Morana Law of any lawyer I have ever worked with. We had paid…read morehim over $14,000.00 for a will, durable power of attorney, health proxy, living trust, and a special needs trust. We initially went to Morana because of his supposedly expertise with special needs. Boy were we sorry! The worst customer service ever. After paying him all that money, he claimed our contract was null and void. The fact was we needed more time for some testing to be completed, which put us outside of his pre-established schedule. Morana claimed because we needed more time than his prescribed schedule allowed we broke our contract; therefore, he was not obligated to give us our documents. Keep in mind, we had paid him over $14,000.00. No flexibility at all. Would not even discuss it in person. We had to file a complaint with the Massachusetts Bar Council. It took over two years for us to finally get our documents. We only got our documents because of our complaint filed with the Bar Council. We also got a financial settlement in our favor. Dealing with this lawyer and having to file the complaint with the Massachusetts Bar Council took a lot of time and energy. We did not want to file the complaint. We had hired another lawyer to discuss the situation with Morana, to no avail. He wouldn't return our lawyers phone calls - unbelievable. We were essentially forced to file the complaint. It was aggravating and very frustrating. For something that should have and could have been resolved quickly, especially if he had been just a little sympathetic to our situation. There are a lot of good lawyers in the Andover area to choose from, I suggest you hire one of them. Save yourself potential headaches, aggravation, time and money. If you want to hire Morana, some advice; compare his costs with other lawyers. You may find the same service by other very competent local lawyers, for a lot less money. Also, check just how flexible or inflexible Morana is compared to other lawyers. You may be very surprised, we certainly were. Would I use this lawyer again - ABSOLUTELY NOT! Would I recommend this lawyer to anyone else - ABSOLUTELY NOT! BUYER BEWARE! Forewarned is Forearmed.
