Last time purchasing from this store. You tell the clerk no lettuce and get to your destination and it is full of lettuce. Ask for a Turkey flying saucer with tomatoes and mayonnaise. You get two pieces of white bread and one piece is the heel. Also, no tomatoes. Can people just take time to take an order right. Workers are so unfriendly no help. Don't give big bills no change. No sweet tea but didn't know how to refund drinks. Come for sweet tea if you don't have it why bother coming. Sandwiches use to be fabulous but I have clue what you are doing. They are not what they used to be. Don't want to call owner for help with refund. Train your staff. Ordered 4 subs, chips & brownies Friday Oct 7th and was really disappoimted. I have been getting subs from Hartles for 40 years. Had the same subs last week and they were awesome. This week the rolls were stale, not enough meat on the subs and can you believe this NO ONIONS. We usually have an abundance of onion but this time not a one. A cold cut with no onions!!! It pains me to write this review because I'm a third generation customer of Hartle's, specifically off Potomac St. however, I feel obligated to warn the potential health risks from the current operations. I live out of state and rarely visit the area, but will go to Hartle's when I do. I decided to pick up a couple subs and fried pickles today, 3/13. From the minute I walked in, it was an unpleasant experience. I was the only customer in the restaurant yet the older lady work the cash register was snippy and rushing me. I was caught off guard that toppings were no longer included unless requested. I was also caught off guard by the prices- the online menu and physical in store menu signage are not accurate which is misleading. I was expecting to pay no more than $20 however, I paid $25+. The price is incredibly expensive for the substandard quality of not only the food, but the quality of the food preparation and storage. In the past, it usually takes around 10 minutes for the order to be ready so I sat down at the bar. It was then where I took in my surrounds...the visible black colored mold on the cabinets, walls, and ceilings, water marks and holes in the ceiling, the shoe prints on the bar (how and why?!?!). I also watched the same older lady use the register and then prepare my subs without washing her hands or putting on gloves. After about two minutes, my order was ready and I left. After getting on the road, I tried to find the receipt in the bag since I was still in shock over the prices. I opened the fried pickle box and was D I S G U S T E D. I was given two day old sauce (3/11 but today is 3/13) and the pickles were not even pickles, they were the skin of a pickle. They also looked as if the had been dried out/ old. I knew right then and there, I was not going to eat any of the food or allow my family to eat it. It was going straight in the garbage. When I arrived home, I inspected the sandwich's and again, was disgusted to find the meat was brown and pale. This is a sign lunch meat is NOT SAFE to eat. My mother, who ate Hartle's every day while pregnant with me & my brother in the 80s & 90s, tried a sliver of sandwich before she saw it was brown. She said it did not taste good which was at that point when we saw the brown meat. Everything, all $25+ spent went straight into the garbage bin. Very upsetting. Late this evening, my mother projectile vomited the sandwich. I write this long review, to warn others the health concerns with this location. read more

Went in there and had the worst customer service from a guy named Tyler in specific he ignored me the whole time I was standing there ready to order and he was on his phone he's rude to his employees and has no respect for them... food was delish but service from their own manager was HORRIBLE this is my third time in here and it's not the first time it's happened he makes the environment very hostile for his customers and employees read more

The place is a dump. They are rude as shit and so slow it's like watching grass grow. They need to learn how to make an Italian hero as well. It's sharp provolone, pepperoni, Genoa salami, and most important of all you are supposed to use HAM CAPPY not whatever that so called meat is they put on their. And I don't know what brand of. When ever our group is in Hagerstown we always get subs at Hartle's and we are always met with very pleasant staff. This last Monday we were in town and of course we called an order into Hartle's. To our dislike we were met with rude and unprofessional stall at this location. The subs were very good but the experience was not what we had experienced in the past. Great food. Lightning fast service. Great prices. The owner spends lots of time there and cares about his customers. We've been there probably a hundred times over the past few years and have always felt satisfied when we left. Do yourself a huge favor. Try their chili. When you go to local places get what they have been doing great for so many years! The turkey sub with swiss and hots, L,TM is my favorite, but they are known for their cold cut sub, these fly out the door.
