I've never had an attorney call me back as soon as Matt Schottmiller does when I leave a message. He has helped me with contract negotiations for my business, along with legal advice for several issues that have arisen. Recently Matt helped my family with estate planning for my grandmother. My grandmother is very hard to please. Matt took the time to explain everything to her and my mom, making everyone comfortable. My grandmother raved about him. My mom was extremely impressed and liked how he made sure my grandmother's best interests were top of mind. Highly recommend Matt Schottmiller and his office.

His consistent advice was that we choose fiduciaries that we completely trust, and he embodied his own advice by being trustworthy in the sense that he reviewed things we had not thought of (such as validity of the will when we are overseas) and really took our specific situation into account to make sure all our wishes were met, including type of burial. Most of all, Allen is extremely friendly and easy to talk to which is not the case with all lawyers. Thank you.

When I was appointed executor, I had an information packet that had blank reports, checklists and the contact information for the commissioner. The assistant was great about answering questions before my appointment at the office. I made a list of questions to ask. It was an informative meeting. I felt prepared for my next report. Tips for newbies like me who felt overwhelmed: 1. Make a list of questions, even if they seem silly. Ask everything. Your question might clarify something for you. 2. You have the phone number on your information packet when you get appointed. Call with questions before your appointment. 3. If you are clearing out an estate, take pictures & notes. Your first report is inventory. 4. If you aren't sure if an item is covered, keep the receipt anyway. You never know. 5. The first report is easy. You can actually accomplish it during your first meeting. The next report is due a year later. 6. Brace yourself for the filing fee. The office building was a two story brick house. It is across the street from the Methodist church and very close to the courthouse.

I literally just created this business on Yelp just so I can give this business a…read morebelievably-mediocre review. This is a rage-review, so admittedly, the 2 star may not be an accurate assessment of their actual competency as a law firm; I don't wanna be one of those reviewers that gives a business 1 star just because I don't like them. (So 2 is better, right?) My boyfriend and I decided to schedule an appointment with this law firm for Tuesday, September 12. We made this appointment on September 8. It had to be a law firm in Montgomery County due to jurisdictional issues, and we live in Fairfax County about 4 hours away. That means we drove down 4 hours on Monday night, stayed at an Airbnb, and were on the way to our 10am appointment, when at 9:35am, they called and cancelled. "Something came up." They even knew we came from northern Virginia, and we would have to stay another day to consult with them--I would miss another work day (at the end of the FY too) and he would miss another day of class. The BF asked if there's any way they can reschedule the appointment for later that day (as opposed to the next day), and they said they can move things around and do 4:30--aka the end of the day when Montgomery Court is already closed. Way to waste our time. The consultation is among the cheaper of other law firms at $100, and a lot of people did refer us to this firm, which must mean they do something right (unless they're referring to us to them because they need help with getting business lol). However, the firm we went with--Robertson Law--ended up meeting with us after just a quick phone call within 15 minutes, and he didn't even charge us for a consultation fee! Robertson Law is the one I would recommend. Connors Law also said they're not likely to take on cases unless they make $1500 or more off of it. Not sure if that's standard or not, but it still turned me off: Seems like Connors went into law for money, whereas Robertson went into it to actually help people. Edit: The administrative clerk ended up calling me after I created this business on Yelp and posted this review to apologize--I guess they got notified of this review from Yelp. We appreciate the apology. And I know emergencies and unforeseen dire circumstances happen (not sure what the case was this time though). It's just frustrating on the client's part to have potentially wasted 8 hours of driving round trip for nothing.
