My little queens were tired of the same playgrounds. My bro's yelp review and pix impressed us all…read more We parked right in front and my kids (ages 3 and 5) ran to the castle-themed jungle gyms and had fun and freedom for the next 2 hours. There were so many structures that all the children had plenty of personal space. Special features included a roller-based slide, a zip-line, and a rope climb. It's an excellent playground I can add to the rotation. Come out and play! NOTES/TIPS: **Picnic tables, plenty of benches, and 2 porta-potties on-site. **If the main parking lot is full, additional parking is 200 ft. away. **The playground is next to a basketball court, baseball field, and soccer field.

Benches for eating are at the entrance located close enough to watch your kids playing basketball or on the playground. This playground is neat... truly a castle inspired theme. Great for playing peekaboo with your toddlers with many mazes to get lost in and still be sure your child is safe and can't fall out the sides (too easily). There's also a slide that can be climbed which my son was very intrigued with, once he got to the top he'd jump on the big boy slide and come out the other end, he's 14 months so there's really so much for him to explore. There's also bigger slides for older kids, different monkey bars to climb, kiddie and big kid swings, little castles with benches and tables to picnic in, and plenty of benches surrounding the playground for parents to hang out in. We lived up to our mantra: PLAY HARD NAP HARD! Baby was knocked out as soon as we got in the car so I must say it was a good day. My name is Francis and I approve of this playground. Since it's a bit further away we won't be there daily but will certainly make the 20 minute trip again!

An amazing park we stumbled across when trying to find a playground for our child…read more This playground has 2 adjacent gated playgrounds, a gazebo, a drinking fountain, shaded seating, and a Porta Potty to serve small and big kids alike. The 2-5 year olds Toddler playground has rubber mats on the ground to protect your little ones from little falls. 1 play structure, 5 Rocking features, and 2 Toddler swings are available. The Motorcycle rocking feature with the side car, the giraffe bench, and the shaded bench in the play structure are pretty awesome and adorabeezle. The 5-12 year olds playground has wood chip ground cover. It is a combination of older plastic, rope, and wood structures that should keep your kids climbing and sliding in very original ways. They are even very fun for those who are kids at heart. 1 large play structure, 1 climbing wall, 1 see saw table, 2 standard swings, and a tire swing are available. A few of the really original structures in the 5-12 year olds playground are the gondola at the back and the yellow sliding "rings" in the front of the play structure. The gondola can be moved between two platforms by turning the crank. The yellow sliding "rings" can be used by holding onto 1 yellow "ring" on each of 2 tracks that are next to each other. Then you need to alternate balancing your weight on one "ring" while sliding the other one forward. (Imagine trying to peddle with your hands in the air.) It's tons of fun and probably a pretty good upper body and core workout. The drinking fountain is located near the entrance of the 5-12 year olds playground. A Porta Potty is located to the left side of the playgrounds for your convenience. The Bee Meadow Pool and football field are just across the parking lot which has lots of parking.

For what it's worth, this review specifically pertains to a rainy winter hike - I can't comment on…read moremost of the park amenities near the playgrounds, playing fields, etc. And I'm also willing to acknowledge that I likely would have felt more favorably disposed toward this park if we had been there in better weather that didn't give off massive Pacific NW vibes. The dreary conditions were not the park's fault. Loantaka was the site of the annual first of the year hike with a group of noble chums. Interestingly, there was a rival "official" hike being held at the same time by the Boy Scouts of America - their social media announcements (complete with map) ahead of time were very helpful in locating a decent parking area for my compatriots. I don't think I have the ability on Yelp to review the BSA, but their scoutmaster was a gem and several of my chums purchased commemorative pins for the event at their little kiosk. Also, my dad was an Eagle Scout and can start a bonfire in about 30 seconds, so that's something. For the purposes of our adventure, we ended up walking 3.13 miles (assuming an Apple watch was correct, which I'm always dubious about), an out-and-back from the parking lot off Loantaka Way to Kitchell Lake just across the aptly named Kitchell Road. The parking lot was easy to access with plenty of spaces, though it was a bit more crowded by the time we were done. It was very pleasing to see several port-a-potties nearby, and I can report from firsthand experience that they were relatively clean, though the toilet seat in mine was wet and required my first squatting situation of 2022. I could breathe comfortably though, so I think you take that compromise if you can get it. The trails are very well maintained - we were exclusively on paved ones, though it looked like there were a few dirt paths that went off them as well, all of which looked tidy and drama-free. That said, it would have been nice if there were more markers/signage giving us a better idea of where we were. It would be difficult to get authentically lost in this area (I imagine it would take roughly 15 minutes to accidentally stumble across a county highway), but it would have been helpful for our orientation. This year's hike featured an Honorary Young Pup of 6, who was able to handle the adventure with aplomb (and enjoyed spotting the metal tags on the trees). There were also many pooches on the premises, and virtually all seemed to be doodle mixes of some sort - very little variety in this area of Jersey, apparently. If you're looking for decent photo ops, this is not where I'd go; this is a park that I'd use exclusively for very mild cardio/fresh air. There are a few streams on the journey, but nothing to write home about. The pond was pleasant enough, with abundant waterfowl in the distance, but it's hard to get whipped up about scenery that looks like it's straight out of Taylor Swift's Folklore album photo shoot.

I played it safe and looped around the park and noticed that there's actually a parking lot located on Loantaka Way. Nice clean well maintained park. What I love most about this place is that it's shaded!!!! Given the summer heat, this is the perfect place to take a stroll.

Hidden Park a Stones Throw From the Morristown Station…read more I brought my son here after having lunch near the Morristown Station expecting this to be much smaller based on the original review and photos. To my surprise Jacob Ford Playground has an amazing amount of open space considering the location. Jacob Ford Playground is more of a park that is nestled into a quiet neighborhood than just a playground. It features 1 full basketball court, 1 tennis court, 1 covered picnic area, 1 grass field, 2 integrated play structures, 2 toddler swings, 2 standard swings and an "Impressive" grassy hill at the far end. The basketball and tennis courts are no frills but fully functional. The basketball court is located near the street entrance and is close enough to the covered picnic area that you can watch any games that are going on while enjoying some nice shade. The tennis court is in a far corner which offers a sense of seclusion so you don't need to worry about if people are watching you as you perfect your [enter your dream tennis move here]. Between these courts is the grassy field. This field is big enough for anything you can throw at it. It even has a fence set up for any kind of pitching sport (think baseball or kickball). The play structures appear to be solidly designed for 5-12 year olds. These play structures are very engaging because there are so many different elements to climb, slide, and explore. The toddler swings and standard swings flank opposite sides of the playground so your smaller one(s) should be safe from the bigger one(s). The benches surrounding the playground located closest to the fence tend to be mostly shaded throughout the day. Because of its proximity you can catch the sounds and sights of the Dover Train Line. This can be seen as an added bonus considering so many little ones enjoy trains. I personally found it quite relaxing to hear the train roll by so quietly. If you would like to observe all of these elements at the same time, I would recommend that you check out the top of the "impressive" grassy hill at the far end of the field. Your efforts will be rewarded with shade and a great view of the entire place. There is a Porta Potty located near the entrance but it was locked while I was there. There is no bathroom here otherwise so plan you day accordingly.

This is a great neighborhood park. My daughter loves it!…read more It's nice and open without much trees or shade around, which makes this the perfect park for a chilly yet sunny day. The playground area is large with lots of various slide / tunnel / swing / climbing wall options. My daughter is 1.5 and there is plenty for her to do. In addition to a playground there is also a large basketball court, soccer field and a gazebo. There are always a ton of organized sports going on, especially during the weekends. Parking and benches are plentiful. Simons Park doesn't get as crowded as Central Park, but also has a bit more to do than Watnong Park. Because of that it's usually my go-to, and is the perfect way to get fresh air with my mini.

There are both regular swings, toddler swings, and a see-saw in addition to the play structures. You can keep an eye on your little ones from one of several benches in or around the playground. If you would like to watch like a pro in the shade you can keep an eye on them from the gazebo that is located right next to the playground. The ground cover is made of recycled tires to protect your little ones from little falls. The trees next to this playground provide shade later in the afternoon so plan your sun exposure accordingly. There is a water fountain here between the basketball court and playground that is available seasonally. There is currently (end of Spring 2016) a blue porta-potty near the entrance to the parking lot near the corner of Hillview Ave and Mountain Way. The bathrooms attached to the concession stand are typically not available unless there is a large sporting or community event going on so plan your intake and output needs accordingly.
