The magazine selection is skimpy and does not include any major national news subscriptions (ie: national review, Newsweek, etc). I have found the bathroom to be unserviceable due to..plumbing issues. The whole place has a faint smell of mildew and stale cigarettes. The reading room is just big enough for five. Longbeach is trying to come back, though. I found a few gems on their dime a paperback sale table, including several of Leon Uris' masterpieces (Mila 18, The Haj) and "Burr" by Gore Vidal.

She was an absolute walking history book. Very knowledgeable and nice. Tour lasted about thirty minutes. The grounds have many statues and artifacts of Jefferson Davis and family. The museum is absolutely loaded with paintings and artifacts related to the Civil War, such as sabres muskets and flags. There is also many displays related to southern civil war life. The presidential library is full of volumes of history and writings. You could be here anywhere from one hour to six hours. It all depends upon how much you want to immerse yourself into the history of this place. This place is clean and organized. An amazing place to visit.

We also spent some time upstairs in the museum with Rob, who explained the swords and weapons displayed. It was very interesting and informative. We visited the cemetery as well. And that's exactly what they did. The library sits on the north wing of the triad community campus. It is a clean, decently built structure with big multi~use bathrooms and a good collection for such a small city. And now for the downsides. They have an unimpressive and skimpy magazine collection..tailored for the eldest among us (from southern living to Smithsonian). The sitting area is behind the non fiction shelves walled off by the cd collection. It's not very big, and the chairs are very stiff and uncomfortable. This is definitely an old lady's paradise though..except for the children's section of course.
