Or how about no roof ventilation whatsoever? The list goes on. These short cuts will lead to multiple roof leaks and damaged plasterwork as the end result of their complete lack of knowledge and utter disdain for you as the client. Decking - no problem, they will even omit to install cross battens so that the structure will eventually collapse. Another speciality is to install the incorrect number of fuse spurs for the floor space size so that the control unit for underfloor heating will eventually overload and catch fire. Not withstanding installing on different floor surfaces (asphalt and wooden floorboards) so that the system is utterly useless and will never heat up, even before it sets alight. Incorrect pipe bore installed for new boiler, resulting in cold radiators. They are more than happy to ignore requests for meetings to discuss their shoddy workmanship so you will ultimately be left with no choice but to resort to legal action. The building arm of this company would also rather set up a new trading entity to avoid paying County Court Judgments for their appalling standard of work that required serious rectification. They are now Lancashire Bathroom & Kitchen Co trading as Oakwood Developments NW Ltd, but were Bamford Developments Ltd previously, with a Director in common. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

We couldn't be happier. Everyone who has been involved has been great, from Justin in the showroom to the workmen who came and fitted it. I was worried about the mess that may have been created, especially as the work was being done next to our bedroom but they left it immaculate. Firstly, the showroom. It was great to see living working bathrooms and be able to see what it feels like to stand/sit in the shower and such like. The salesman was extremely pleasant and helpful and wasn't just out to take as much money as he could. Because they did a site visit and survey there were no 'unexpected' problems and the whole job (converting bathroom with bath to wet room with shower and disabled access) went well. The man who did the work never slacked and the Mr Passmore himself called round to check progress and satisfaction. The job was planned to avoid long periods without facilities and the guy worked over to make sure it was usable before the bank holiday weekend. Best of all they refused to take any payment until the job was fully signed off to the customer's (my dad) satisfaction.

The Knaresborough Kitchen Company is one of those excellent home-grown indie-to-mighty contenders in the kitchen design world. Personally, from browsing in their Otley showroom, it seems as though they have all the benefit of their indie roots - the designs are fresh and unique with a kind of personal edge to them that you just wouldn't find in a huge Wickes or Homebase. You don't need to buy everything - you can just walk away with a kitchen sink if you need, the staff are friendly and always make you feel welcome. If you are seriously looking, or just future dreaming, The Knaresborough Kitchen Company are a great place to start.

The first items to catch my eye were the glittery, chic lampshades, which dangled over a sleek work top. Everything seemed to be placed, not only for functionality, but for class and visual effect. Even the pots they had on display were mirror shiny stainless steel - so pristine that you could see yourself in them. I think it's the detail, and the lack of fuss, that I liked most. Given that my other rooms hold so much clutter it was nice to see a stylish space organised in a way that would hide all of the messy utensils and so on. Of course, their kitchen design isn't limited to this show room, there are many many other impressive designs on their website too so take a good browse. I think you'll agree, once you've navigated to their online gallery (it's not massively easy to find, but it is there) that there is a lot of choice and style going on!

At dream bathrooms they have loads of different designs of baths, sinks, showers, heating appliances, taps, towel rails and toilets. Contemporary or traditional, all very shiney and posh (I think I would go for a sparkly white oval bath and some little silver soap dishes...sigh). The price is actually ridiculously high in my opinion though, with a simple circular towel rail bringing you back over £65 and some of the baths over £2000. The quality is pretty dam good though so it's dependent on your budget and how much you are willing to shell out. If you are doing up your current house or looking for bathroom bits to accommodate your new abode then give them a shout, they'd be happy to help. Just don't get carried away or you wont have any money left for food and heating!

So my recent perusal of the show room at Dream Baths was a tad nostalgic. Similar to Alexandra I have yet to own my own house and indeed long for the day when I can paint the walls any damn colour I choose and, erm...screw monkey bars into the ceiling and make one room into a ball pond! Again...I can Dream! So the notion of getting a new bathroom fitted doesn't feel particularly relevant to my current life and to be honest I'm a bit of a make do and mend type and can't imagine stripping out an entire bathroom only to buy a brand new one for thousands of pounds, but at the same time I fully understand the urge to match your home to your personal taste. The bathrooms here are top quality with many different styles from reasonably standard designs to quite unusual and stylish. The more interesting designs appear to have an 'interesting' price tag to match so are maybe best avoided if you're on a tight budget. If you're looking for a new bathroom though, you could certainly do worse than popping down to Dream Bathrooms!

I needed my whole 1 bed flat carpeting, big rooms, stairs and all - and ended up paying £400 for everything inc fitting. £290 without. Didn't get a cheaper quote than that from anyone. Fitting the next day was fantastic. The guy was friendly and did a tremendous job, can't fault them whatsoever. They've been around for 20+ years(?) apparently, so they're definitely doing something right.
