As a resident of a Williamsburg subdivision developed by Harrison Lear, I am incredibly disappointed with their lack of accountability. Construction on the homes here wrapped up 6 to 9 months ago, yet the infrastructure remains unfinished because they refuse to complete the job properly. Our streets are still unpaved, and the neighborhood clubhouse has not been properly resourced. Most concerning of all, the stormwater management BMPs are in terrible shape and completely out of environmental compliance. They have turned into stagnant breeding grounds for mosquitoes and biting midges, creating a neighborhood-wide nuisance. Our community organized a group and spent the last six months explicitly requesting assistance and detailing these issues, yet almost nothing has been done. Harrison Lear simply does not live up to their obligations. It shouldn't require a massive fight for residents to get what they paid for. Steer clear of this developer. read more

Harrison and Leer will take your money and make up the rules as they go. Our lease never required a 60-day notice, and we were never put on a month-to-month agreement like they're now claiming. They also failed to notify us of any lease renewal or management change--both of which they're legally supposed to do. They'll have you sign a contract, but it doesn't seem to matter because they don't follow it anyway. They returned our deposit, then turned around and charged us prorated rent for half a month we didn't even live there--while already having a new tenant in place and after being notified well in advance. On top of that, their behavior was rude, unprofessional, and petty the entire time. Save yourself the stress and frustration--if you have any other option, do not live here. I would honestly rather live in my car than deal with them again. John Gibbons will lie straight to your face and hide behind emails to screw you over. I wish I had the lady at the office name that talked to my husband because you are as thick headed as John and I hope Karma comes after you for screwing over your best tenants who always paid you on time and never caused a fuss unlike most of the people in the complex. They have made many mistakes trying to manage 1 property. They don't do what they agree to do. Not ever return phone calls. Don't ever make contact with updates. Didn't inspect to make sure no pets. Took Tennant for word. Issued keys to Tennant without verification of transfer of utilities. Then takes upon theirself on dropping rent not discussing with the owner of property. Then never supplying an itemized document for the expenses. But they definitely make them whole instead of keeping owner satisfied. Not to be trusted in my opinion! You decide. Rating Poor read more

Did not have a good turn around experience. We had to call to check on status vs. the agent giving us regular feedback. It took us over two weeks to get approval status and then had to wait an additional three days to get deposit refund after being denied. Our agent was very nice , but we felt she was new and she always said she had to get with her supervisor before giving us final feedback to our questions. read more

I would give no stars. this management company will take your communities money and also not work or get back to you even in a timely manner. I'm not talking days. I'm talking weeks, over a month and will blow off voicemails. Feels like a scam company that just wants contracts to get paid and virtually do nothing. United property associates was much better in my opinion with following up, returns, courtesy, and maintaining decorum. This company is the biggest slumlord on the Peninsula. They are one of the major contributors to the homelessness and lack of affordable housing. I have lived in Foxcroft for years and getting out from under these slumlords is almost impossible. If you can find any other alternative, please do! read more

Literally the worse place I've ever been employeed by. I got zero communication from the property manager Carolyn Hemingway even after repeatedly asking if there was anything I could do to do my job better (the only response i got was it's ok). Also and even worse is the owner Katherine Pearson spends all day, everyday at the property and yet there is still no communication. Then to top it all off instead of having an actual conversation, it was decided that whatever I had to say meant nothing and I was to just be fired using one word responses. If you're looking for a company who doesn't care about you as an employee then this is the one. read more

Harrison & Lear has been promising to complete new community deliverables for over 2 years. Our community is still without street lights.

We just received pictures of our home from our new management company. Harrison & Lear told us the house looked good except maybe needing some painting done. The house looked terrible. Holes in the wall, kitchen cabinets ripped off the hinges, etc. Oh the painting that was needed was due to Harrison & Lears' painters that didn't even try to match paint colors. It looks like a 5 year old got into some white paint and had fun painting the walls. Again don't use this company unless you like getting ripped off or you are looking for your house to be destroyed. The only time we've gotten any sort of timely response from them is when we've basically hissed and screamed and gone to upper management. At that point, we heard a lot of weak apologies from the so called rental manager Denise and the so called president Bob and their newly discovered responsiveness lasted for roughly a month. This company manages the HOA for my rents property. I have found them incredibly difficult to work with. Rebecca is either incompetent or incredibly lazy. I had a violation pop up for my property. I requested my property manager take care of the issue but due to the vague working on the violation notice, they were unable to determine what needed to be done. Harrison and Lear refused to speak with the property manager directly. A few months later I get another notice. I requested pictures so that the work could be completed. Rebecca failed to do this. I received another violation notice a few months later via certified letter. I talk to Rebecca AGAIN and few a weeks later I finally received four poor quality photos. I waited 3 months for 4 pictures. I gave her a timeline for the work to be completed and I get another certified letter dated the day after our conversation. I had to finally speak to the owner. We will see if the issue will resolve soon. Rebecca didn't even realize she was mailing two letters at a time. I had to tell her so. read more

I would like to thank Harrison & Lear for helping me come to the decision of buying a house. I was a renting a house from them. Every time I had to speak to them about any problem I was talked down to like I was a child. The manager for the renting side was yelling at me in the front office one day. When I was, thankfully, out of my lease and needing to do a final walk through of the resident, I asked to do it on a Friday afternoon. They said that I needed to reschedule for early Monday. Then they were late to their own schedule appointment. When they got there they ignored me and was talking to each other as if I was not there. I am not the one to complain, it takes quite a bit of mistreatment and attitude problems for me to write a bad review. So thank you Harrison & Lear, I will NEVER rent a house again. read more

Harrison & Lear managed our home for the past 7 years, the home was put on the market and sold in mid 2010. This Beka S. person is the incompetent one, why would you let a company manage your property if you had this many problems? I honestly don't believe half of the complaint. My wife an I received nothing but GREAT and OUTSTANDING customer service. When the home was vacant, management had the place rented within 2 months. Mostly to military and shipyard workers. In 7 years, we had monthly statements sent, copies of invoices sent, tax return paperwork sent. Out of 7 years i believe we had to call 3 times because we didn't receive something in the mail. That is not bad at all. They were prompt to get the information to us or even email or fax us. Keep up the great work Harrison & Lear, we continue to recommend your company! Harrison & Lear Inc manages the property of Georgetown Commons Townhomes in Newport News, Virginia. They do not communicate, Ms. Wright the person who manages the property is unprofessional and simply rude. I have owned my home for over 10 years last night my car was towed by Pete's towing because they said our decals have expired. Harrison & Lear never contacted us to renew our decals and they never sent renew papers in the mail. I actually thought my cars were stolen so I called the police and reported them stolen. Ms. Wright insists she sent the papers in the mail in which is a lie and it is bad business. Harrison & Lear only take our money every month they do not care about the property they manage and that's a shame. I'm and very upset about the way she talked to me as though I'm a child she is a complete ASSHOLE and a terrible business associate. I wouldn't recommend anyone do business with this company. When I need Pete's towing they are never available and homeowners are not allowed to call them. What a way to do business Ms. Wright you are a poor excuse of an employee and a human being. The purpose of this statement is for the property management of Harrison & Lear. Ms. Rachel Wright, obviously you love your job specifically for getting a paycheck. You lack concern for human activity for humanity. You did not send the paperwork to the HOMEOWNERS at Georgetown Commons for the HOMEOWNERS to replace their parking decal. Therefore you sent Pete's towing company to tow vehicles at the owner's expense in which we pay you $200. 00 a month for homeowner's association fee. Ms. Wright, you are an example of a lousy business associate. Also, your work ethics are inhuman; your concern for people and your work ethics are awful. You give Harrison & Lear a terrible name; you should be fired and find a job you love. The residents at Georgetown Commons, work every day to pay there mortgage and association fee, and you are so cheap you would not even send the paperwork through the mail. Also, you lied repeatedly over the phone saying you did post it in the letter in which you never addressed. Either you are related to someone at Pete's towing or you are mating, and you're splitting the money with them after they tow our cars. This incident must be reported The Better Business Bureau for lousy business. You are not concerned about the HOMEOWNERS at Georgetown Commons in Newport News, VA you are broke, and you need the money. Not only that Pete's towing is coming back tonight and tow more vehicles instead of you notifying the residents about your mistake. You are an incompetent piece of trash of a human being, and you do not deserve to be employed by anyone. Also, it was very disrespectful how you talked to me over the phone, because of our association fees is probably why you even receive a check. It is 2017 and talking nasty to people is not proper for any business transition. The Society we live in should be in a position to work with others to advance and prosper not get over and exploit money. If you're looking for good maintance within renting from someone. You won't find it here. We don't pay people too half way do there jobs. We also don't pay people to not come out when the A/C is out on a day that was 88 degrees outside and tell you to call back when it's above 85 and it already was. I'm sorry but this is rediculous and a sorry company to rent through. I hope nobody else has to experience this with them. We even had an employee on speaker when maintance was here say "they can do without ____ for one day." Excuse me !!! Then didn't took a week to get that problem fixed. Poor customer service. I strongly wouldn't recommend this company. If I could give less then one star I would. Tell me would you want to be with out A/C on a hot summer day and you're working hard to pay for it and you're not getting it in return? No I don't think so! Simply Terrible! read more

Harrison & Lear is the management company for our house in Hampton, VA (we currently live in Boston). It's a single family that they get to keep 10% of the rent collected. I have come to believe over the past year that they are utterly incompetent. (I'll try to contain my frustration and give you the reasons....) 1. It took them 5 months to rent the place. And we had to make most of the suggestions about how to accomplish it (incentives, rent reduction, etc) 2. I've still never seen the lease, although I've asked repeatedly. 3. We get invoices that have random charges deducted and no reason why. I've asked. Still waiting on receipts. 4. We requested 3 quotes to replace our heat pump. 4 weeks passed and nothing appeared. Then the unit crapped out. So we had to put our tenants up in a hotel and only got shady email quotes via the management company - no actual quotes were provided to us directly from the contractors. 5. It's now March and I haven't received tax paperwork from last year. 6. The tenants never paid the complete first month rent amount. H&L wouldn't have notified me if I hadn't called to ask why the amount didn't match the lease agreement. 7. We wanted to pursue rent-to-own with our tenants. Despite much talk that it would be brought up, I don't believe it ever was. To sum up, the communication and professionalism you would hope for just isn't here. All I asked was to be kept informed about what's happening, and that seems impossible. read more
