Ansay House

We hosted an event at the Ansay House inside the Park. Beautiful location. The park rangers stopped in several times to check to see if we needed anything. The only negative is they lock the bathroom doors before our event ended. But over all a great venue to host events.

This is a nice little park with beach and quarry about 45 min from downtown milwaukee. Unfortunately I came a day when the beach had high e coli. Plus much of the beach has been wiped out by high water. Hiking here is still pleasant - there's many hiking trails, camping, opportunities for biking and (i believe) swimming at the aforementioned quarry. I kind of preferred kohler andrae state park but having to drive the extra 15 - 20 minutes north kinda of makes harrington more attractive.

Fabulous place to chill out. Remarkable nature and views of Lake Michigan. You can picnic with family, fish or hike on some well kept trails.

Lake Michigan! High Waves!

Not sure how I feel about this place yet. We went on a blustery day and the waves were crashing about so hard there was not an inch of beachfront to be had. Also a majority of the beach coveys were closed due to high levels of E coli. We brought our dog Ralph with us so I'm not sure why the lady at the gate didn't say anything to us about the beach closings. It just wasn't a good time to be out there with your 4 legged friends. Other than what I mentioned above the park itself is gorgeous especially around Quarry lake! That lake is amazing. Nothing but jagged rocks and I'm not sure how deep the thing is. The place is great for hiking around with your dog. We wound up making the extra 20 minute drive to Kohler-Andrae where we knew we could get our dog out into the water.

Lake Michigan sandy beach. Wear your bathing suit to hike in this beautiful park along the quarry towards the beach. Jump into the lake to cool off and continue on your way. The paths are either grass or pea rock. Not too hilly. Lots to see.

Quarry

We really enjoy camping at state parks and Harrington is one of my favorite in WI. The quarry and beach is perfect. They really maintain the park, it's clean and comfortable.

We have always been fans of coming here. Access to the beach plus the path around the quarry make for nice walks. Several picnic tables and bathrooms make it easy to stay for a while. On our latest trip it was pretty wet out but it's spring and it just rained that night.

Lake Michigan shore line at Huntington Beach.

This beach is extremely disappointing to say the least. There is barely any room to sprawl out due to the weeds and shrubs. Lots of dead fish and cigarette butts in the sand. This beach is clearly not cared for.

Great state park! Lots of different areas to explore. Check out the purple Martin house at the park office during the summer. Grasslands with lots of interesting birds. Puckett's Pond, Quarry Lake, and of course, Lake Michigan provide different landscapes to explore. The walk around Quarry Lake is really scenic. Make sure you grab a photo from the shore of Lake Michigan. Beautiful in every season.

For a state park that advertises a beach there really isn't one. There is no room to lay and barely any sand to lay in. There were dead fish and cigarettes in the sand. Also everywhere we went there would be flys that would bite us. I'm very disappointed and will not be coming back.

Beach is wonderful. Last day of summer visit....Perfect. Ok, If I have to advise, be careful of the potholes. Some were severe!

It continues to be a favorite spot for camping trips multiple times a year, but hot dang you have to book FAR in advance to get a site! I believe they allow you to book up to 11 months in advance, which seems crazy but trust me when I say you need to, especially for weekend or holiday dates. We camp with both an RV and tents, and are always in search of sites with electric as an option. My favorite is around the #89-92 area, but honestly you can't go wrong with most all of the sites. The grounds are extremely well-kept, and it's a delight to be tucked into the forest of trees. Tons of walking paths wind around this park too, including the beautiful dunes. Great to explore in all seasons. Various trails lead straight to Lake Michigan, where you'll find the sprawling beach of white sand. In the warm months, it's great to swim, and in the cooler months the beach is flat enough to take a nice long walk on or simply enjoy the ocean-like views. Other pros: plenty of parking for single-day visitors, a huge playground alongside the beach entrance, firewood and ice on site, an 'amphitheatre' area where events like weddings can be hosted, and it's very dog-friendly. There's nothing not to love at this gorgeous state park!

James Tellen's Woodland Sculpture Garden - Sr. Peter, originally sculpted for a trout farm

It's located in a residential neighborhood, south of Sheboygan, that is off the beaten path. The first thing you see is a log fence along Evergreen Road. In the trompe-l'œil sculpture, you'll find a Native American family, a momma bear climbing a tree and her two cubs playing in a tree. Park your car in the lot off Evergreen Road and walk back up to the road to take a closer look at the fence. The amount of detail that James Tellen put into his work is evident in the logs. You'll find a Native American family, a momma bear about to climb a tree, and her cubs playing on the tree top. Near the large sculpted tree (go ahead and stick your head in the large opening!) you'll find a box with an information sheet that describes the sculptures you'll be seeing as you walk the path into the woods. Where did this all come from? James Tellen worked in a Sheboygan furniture factory where he painted stripes and other details on the products. When not working, he studied painting under local artisans and later worked with other media. During the depression, production slowdowns gave him time to pursue his artwork. This log cottage and land, south of town, was a family refuge and became a place for him to pursue his artwork. During the winter, he would work on sculpting heads in the basement of his home. In Spring and Summer, he attached the heads to armatures that supported his concrete sculptures. Tellen died in 1957, leaving a legacy of 30 such sculptures at the family cottage. The Kohler Foundation acquired the sculpture garden in 1988 and in 2001, the collection was gifted to the John Michael Kohler Art Center. The Tellen environment is the first addition to the JMKAC collection that is off premises. (The JMKAC is in downtown Sheboygan.) A sculpture of a young Abraham Lincoln, splitting a log, shows Tellen's incredible dedication to detail. It is reminiscent of Clarence Shaler's "Lincoln the Dreamer" sculpture on the campus of Ripon College. Tellen tried to depict everyday people, and the young Lincoln is represented as an everyday neighbor rather than as the statesman that we all remember. The Tellen collection is open dawn to dusk daily. It is one the art environments restored by the Kohler Foundation and listed as part of Wandering Wisconsin. I have reviewed some of these sites on Yelp, too. https://www.jmkac.org/exhibitions/wandering-wisconsin.html

Point Creek defines the southern boundary of the property, which includes over 1,000 feet of riparian corridor." I love this place!! Little known place is a secret of locals. Outstanding birding area, mergansers offshore. Last year, while I was there, I was surrounded by dozens (yes, dozens) of golden crowned kinglets. The trails are relatively easy. The spruce forest is a haven for birds. Last fall I saw an elderly couple come out of the woods with several baskets of mushrooms. I, myself, have foraged for edible mushrooms there many times. The views from the bluff are fantastic. The beach is sandy and lonely. You will rarely encounter anyone on the trails. This is a magical, remote area that is a must visit for nature lovers. Deer, fox, porcupines, and all nature of other little critters. I will reiterate that the birding is wonderful. The area where Point Creek meets Lake Michigan is a magical place. If you want to commune with nature in a truly beautiful place, this is a hidden gem you will not want to miss. Bring someone you love, a bottle of wine, and a picnic lunch.
