We talked over video chat, and he suggested times and places, promising he could squeeze us in on a short notice, even after he was booked solid for months. His personal touch and his going the extra mile made our elopement all the more special. As foreigners unfamiliar with the country, weather, and culture, we were in the best of hands. Mark personally recommended locations to us, driving us to the most stunning locales in Northern Ireland, producing shots that were nothing short of epic. They all truly belong in wedding magazines. Architecturally it consists of curved walls and circular rooms. Large glass windows let natural light in and allow a view of the green landscape. Pleasant, helpful staff and a delicious buffet with scrumptious veggie options of veg pizza, sandwiches and a lush garlic and herb dip. There was plenty for all the meat eaters as well. Admittedly not a large selection of wines but we had a quality Prosecco and Sauvignon Blanc and thus the wannabe wine snob within me was more than happy. I'm giving this spot 4 stars because I think it's such a great venue and I had an enjoyable time at the wedding. I believe the whole building is referred to as Lagan Valley Island however they don't just offer event facilities - as per their website "Lagan Valley Island has many functions; It is headquarters of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council and the facility is also a unique mix of civic, business and arts facilities - home to council offices, the Island Arts Centre, Council Chambers, a purpose built Conference Centre, Theatre, and stunning wedding facilities". I fully intend to return to see a play or a visual arts exhibition. If I can fault this place in any way - it would just be that it's perhaps a little tricky to get to if you don't drive.

So we park in the city centre and take a 15 minute walk to get here. Once inside the main door and through the bag search we were processed quickly and the staff are always courteous and helpful. Our seats were upstairs and we were quite far back from the stage with a great view. As with most concert venues in this city the seats are barely comfortable, the space between the seats is almost non existent, so you are forced to be very near to total strangers and I'd rather not thanks very much. The food and drink pricing is more akin to airport charging. I noted that the price for a small Coca cola, from a drink dispenser into a paper cup, was £3.10 for an ungenerous portion, or put shortly daylight robbery. If it's comfort and relaxation you want to enjoy a concert I can assure you you're in the wrong place so it's as well Andrea Bocelli and friends were in top form.

Think of anything that involves a party, and they'll have the stuff you're looking for. Come Hallowe'en, they're backroom gets transformed to a costume shop, with wall-to-wall costumes from the traditional French maid and nurses' uniforms to more recent entrants, depending on what the latest film craze is. What's really impressive here is that there is a specific service that they cater for that you would never have thought they did. You pass the shop and think "oh, party shop with standard party stuff". In truth, they are masters at co-ordinating the set-up of weddings. The work they do in supplying seat covers, centrepieces, backdrops, wall coverings, favours... you wouldn't believe it. Go in and ask Joe to show you photos of the work he's done - he has hundreds of photos of weddings he has set-up and he loves to show them. He has a real eye for detail, and when you think of what DJ's and bands get paid, I genuinely believe this guy needs to up his prices for the work he does. Brides-to-be: ignore this place at your peril.

They also sell Halloween and fancy dress costumes in general, for kids and for adults, although as usual, I wish they would sell the XL sizes a little more - I think there is an untapped market for that. People are going online to buy those things, when if they were sold in store, these guys would make the profit. But hey, no one listens to me. The staff are pleasant and helpful, the parking is handy enough too.

Anyways, having been approached by a Venture representative whilst out shopping one day, and given a 'free' photo session voucher and photo package, my family and I decided to book an appointment for my mum's big birthday. I usually *never* stop for these people - they annoy the life out of me - but I was caught unawares this time. I am glad I was though. We booked our appointment and headed to the Lisburn Road for our photo shoot. Since it was my mum's birthday, I had decided to bring copious amounts of balloons. The studio looked like 'Fun House' by the time I was done with it... The photographer was quite possibly one of the charming people I have ever met. Really lovely and friendly. She took numerous photos of us - all together, my sister and I, individual ones, mum and dad, pictures with the balloons (hurrah!)...and boy, was it fun. Pose after pose...every girl's dream really. Even though he didn't let on, my dad had a ball too. We were called back a week or two later to choose our free photo. Which we got. Plus two individual ones of myself and Joanne, which were super expensive, but really quite stunning. The three pictures now take pride of place in our dining room - a cheerful reminder of a delightful evening out. Undoubtedly the best bit of the whole experience was when my mum had a visitor round and brought her into the dining room. The girl glanced at the pictures, instantly asking, "Are those two girls models?" You can imagine my mum's retort. This didn't sway the visitor though. "They should be", affirmed she. Just like Colm H has already said. When it comes to whole photograph taking process these guys do…read morego all out. When my family suggested a family portrait I was in despair! I hate things like this! They are always awkward, with pointlessly well dressed people smiling aimlessly in the direction of the camera. But here they do things differently. Encouraged to dress casually, they let us just run around and do what we want whilst they almost documented the whole thing. It was a fantastic experience. The photos turned out fantastically and we really do look like we having lots of fun which gives them a more real feel compared to the usual static images of faces. Being to young to be aware of the cost I'm not sure how much it was, but according to other reviewer who have been in more recent times, it seems reasonable for the service offered. If your going to get something as cheesy as a family photo done, then you might as well enjoy yourself as well!
