I hadn't been to a church in 5 years when I showed up to The Journey. I was afraid that I wouldn't…read morefeel welcome, that the church would be "cliquey," and that I would be offended by the message. Immediately after sitting down, I realized that I was in the right place. I felt so touched and inspired, and encouraged to explore my spirituality and connection to God beyond the confines of a Sunday morning. As Christian churches go, they have their religious tenants that tend to put them in the "conservative" camp, but as far as churches go, I do believe that this one is fairly progressive and accepting. Things to expect: messages concretely tied into real life, excellently performed contemporary music - some of it original, overhead presentation of what's occurring on the main stage so everyone can see, occasional use of videotaped messages when the pastor is traveling, coffee before the service and donuts after, and kind people all around.

I can't say enough about Pastor Darrin Patrick... I'm your typical "raised in the church" girl and…read moreI've grown so much and met some of the best friends I've ever made here. Darrin's not afraid to give it to you straight, though - so just know that going into it. I'm not saying he's all hellfire and damnation, he's just honest - Christians are spending more time and money shopping for and buying "Christian merchandise" than they are building up their communities and making the world a better place. We've side-stepped our responsibilities and turned our faith into a self-help practice. If you are ready to be challenged, or you're looking for a church that welcomes questions and investigation about what Christianity really is, was and should be... I dare you to come. 9am and 11:15 Sunday services at Tower Grove. They have other campuses too - www.journeyon.net. You can also check out Darrin's latest sermon at the website.

This is the first time I have been able to really understand some of the books in the Bible by attending Sunday School/Bible study. I love how the instructors break down each lesson, I look forward to attending. I love how you can ask questions in the middle of the lesson to gain clarity and understanding of what was just read. I love obtaining new perspective and wisdom. Sunday service is NOT to be missed. Pastor Mike always has a riveting message on the word, God's word. Messages and lessons that we are to spread to others, messages to help you go through life, messages to help you weather the storms of life, messages to encourage you and others. Pastor Mike consistently teaches us that we are to seek God 1st in EVERYTHING we do, no matter how big or small. We can do nothing on our own but with God we can do all things. This is a wonderful church if you are truly wishing to seek God's presence and learn the word of God (Bible). Pastor Mike and his wife, Katie are truly welcoming to ALL as well as so many others. The church has many community events throughout the year, check their website. Tower Grove Farmer's market is often held on the church lot, they host a community banquette, baby dedications, fur-baby events, fish fry's during Lent, an annual Flea Market in December and more. Come to Tower Grove Baptist Church and see what you're missing, ALL are WELCOME

What is different about this congregation is that you can feel welcome here, no matter who you are. One of the mottos of the united Church of Christ (UCC) is "Jesus didn't reject people, neither do we." This congregation lives this out. No matter if you're straight, LGBTQAI, single, married, divorced, differently abled, all or none of the above, you will find yourself welcome here. Before I started attending Hope, UCC I was hurt by fundamentalist religion. I felt Hope may be the same, but it was not at all. What a warm, friendly group of people dedicated to the worship of the everlasting God. There are lots of ministry opportunities within this congregation that assist causes both in and beyond Saint Louis. This congregation leans toward a more traditional style of worship, but is progressive in many respects. They have 2 Pastors, one female and one male (no, they are not married to one another, but both are married and have children). You will not find a female Pastor at any of the other churches in Francis park. Sermons heard at Hope are from the Bible and contain a more academic approach, as opposed to popular or fundamentalist interpretation. All ages attend, and child care is available. This Church is also Open and Affirming: http://www.ucc.org/lgbt/ona.html This is truly one of the gems of Saint Louis as far as churches are concerned. When you go there, check out the stained glass windows and the beautiful pipe organ. Elevators are available on the side entrance furthest from Eichelberger for those unable to climb the stairs for whatever reason. Services are 8:15 and 10:30 Sunday mornings. Full disclosure: I served as a student intern here in the 2014 school year. I liked this congregation so much that I decided to make it my church home in Saint Louis.
