Do you like to meditate but find it hard to slow down long enough to do it? Interested in mind-body…read moreconnections? Me, too!
Focusing is a great technique for those of us who have trouble sitting down and just feeling our feelings.
Focusing was created by psychologist, Dr. Eugene Gendlin in the 1970's. It's like an active (Vipassana) meditation. You focus on your core, notice a sensation, see if the feeling has a name, word, or image, and then use techniques to understand the feeling, rather than to become it/become attached to it. You can do it alone or with a guide, called a companion.
Susan Lennox, Ph.D. is one of those guides, and a fabulous one at that!
I've taken 4 workshops with her now, and have a good sense of her style, which is prepared, knowledgeable, kind, and insightful.
Susan has a beautiful, warm, and welcoming home office with a view of the woods where squirrels and chipmunks also make themselves cozy. On a good day, after a couple of hours of Focusing, and munching on the ample supply of healthy snacks, and drinking coffee/tea that Susan provides, you can trek outside for a good stretch or a walk, and practice Focusing. Very meditative. Very relaxing.
And, Susan is organized, knowledgeable, and thoughtful, and provides the perfect environment to find reflection, insight, and delight in the process of Focusing.
She teaches, trains, coaches (she's a certified professional coach), and offers small groups or one-on-one sessions. She also has a sliding scale, if you're a student.
When I first tried Focusing by reading what I found online or in the book, I didn't really get the full experience because it was hard to take the time to focus on myself, and to trust that it would feel okay. I mean, who wants to sit down when you're feeling down? But, then I heard about Susan's small group workshops, and decided to try them. It was a completely different experience!
Susan Lennox provides a fulfilling experience by offering not only her extensive knowledge but also her care to ensure a safe journey inside yourself and with others. It's amazing.
