The entrance to this museum is rather historic as is most of Cambridge. Although this museum is small the items encased within it's walls are interesting and some even leave you staring for a while. This, nor any museum in Cambridge can out shine free museums in, let's say, London but we must appreciate it for what it is. So, even when…read moreinvited to sing along at Evensong, it's really difficult to do so - unless you already know the hymn from having sung it before. Being from America - even though I spent many years singing at Episcopalian churches - I was not familiar at all with the selection. I did pretty well because of my background as a singer and no one else near me even tried. If you want to get good seats so you can actually see the choir and watch the conductor, you must get there at least 30 min early, or earlier. We arrived 15 minutes early and were sitting far enough out that we could barely see them. I mean, let's be honest, we weren't really there to worship at Evensong. As a professional chorister who has sung this type of music professionally, the boys in the choir were not always together, and the words were sometimes unintelligible as a result. That being said, they sounded otherwise beautiful and professional. I think only an experienced chorister or musician could pick that out. Sometimes during the year, you can hear an organ concert after. Unfortunately, the one in the program was not happening. It would have been epic.

Disclaimer: I am a King's College Choir groupie. When I was a student at Cambridge, I bicycled over…read moreto the Chapel to hear the evensong every day, like clockwork. This is one of the world's premier boys' choirs and experiencing King's College evensongs, services and/or concerts is an important part of the Cambridge experience, in my humble view. Since I have family in Cambridge, we always spend Christmas Eve day waiting in line to hear the afternoon service -- the one broadcast by the BBC worldwide every year. For this privilege, one needs to arrive in line before 6:00 a.m. There is always a group of intrepid fans who appear the night before (one comes every year from Switzerland) so that they can be at the front of the line -- for prime seating inside the chapel. I cannot recommend attending at least one evensong highly enough. [See the web page for specific times, etc. -- and check to make sure the boys are singing. A few days a week they are not -- and it's men only.] Finally, I learned that the choir has its own YouTube station now, with 100 or so videos of the choir performing at Christmas and other times of year. Worth a look/listen!

I've only been to one show here, so I…read moredon't have a great deal of experience, but here are my impressions of the venue so far, in bullet format for some unknown reason: Positives: -- Great location, not that they have control over it, but right in the center of Cambridge, and well positioned for a full night out, if desired. -- It's nice and open, doesn't feel cramped but also retains a level of intimacy with the artist. Nicely done. -- I'm a big guy but found the seats in the balcony to be quite comfortable. Plenty of legroom and cushion, though perhaps night quite elevated enough from the row in front. Negatives: -- They ran out of some varieties of beer, and still water, before the show even started! That's terribly mismanaged -- The hugely bright lights that flash at the audience at impact points during a performer's music shine directly into the eyes of the people sitting in the balcony. They detract from the experience, rather than enhancing it. I don't need to be told when to be moved by the music, I can decide for myself. -- Avoid the back rows of the balcony -- I can't imagine you can see much from there. We were in the third row of the balcony (row CC), though, and thought the seats had quite a nice view, but the view of the upper part of the stage was slightly obstructed by the lighting rig. -- There's only one entrance door, so there was a queue around the corner to get in. So there it is. Overall a decent venue -- I enjoyed it more than the O2 -- but some mismanagement of both the concessions and the main performance knock it down a bit. Still, we will return because they pull in some great acts!

We were warmly welcomed and quickly chose from the interesting board - a Mexican brunch and a toastie with halloumi, pesto and tomato. The Mexican brunch consisted of scrambled eggs mixed with chorizo and potato served in a tea cup (decorated with hens!) with toast fingers. This was much enjoyed by my companion so much so that silence descended as she chomped!! My toastie was so tasty, salty halloumi and savoury pesto. Mmmm. I shall definitely tuck this one away and revisit when I am in the Mill Road area.

The tea was delish - loose leaf but strong! The sausage rolls were also very tasty - it tasted as if there's some black pudding mixed in, giving it an additional depth of flavour. My flapjack was nice enough but the White chocolate icing was a bit too sweet for my tastes. The space was nice enough - decked out with a lot of naked Edison light bulbs hanging from the ceiling but despite the mismatch furniture, lacked the cosy feel it was going for.

The Mildenhall Museum is a great little museum. If you love history, definitely plan to spend at…read moreleast an hour or even longer if you like to take in all the details of each exhibit. Of note is the exhibit around the unearthed Lakenheath Warrior, his horse and belongings. Radio carbon dating estimates the man's birth to around 470 A.D. and includes the items such as his shield, sword and spear that were buried with him. It appears that the horse was sacrificed to be buried alongside the warrior. It is believed that this was a ritual that would allow the horse to pass into the afterlife alongside the warrior. There are many other interesting exhibits that tell the story of this area...in the Museum's own words, "half a million years of history under one roof." Please note that photography is not allowed inside the museum. I would have loved to share photos of the many fascinating things within, but you'll just have to make a visit and see with your own eyes.
