I've got 99 problems but my hair ain't one of them!…read more Like most ladies, I am slightly obsessed with having good hair. Now what good hair is, will be a subjective point of view, but for me it is manageable and generally shiny and healthy looking as a result of a great cut. I first reviewed Angel Hairdressing about 3 months ago on my first visit. It's a local salon and after standing by it waiting for the bus for 2 years, I decided to give it a go when my budget couldn't stretch to a posh town salon do. So now, it is review No.200 and it had to be a 5 * review. Even though I my last hair cut was 3 months ago - I hadn't actually reached hair crisis point. My style had held perfectly even when growing and it was only as it really started to thicken up again (and growing very quickly) that I decided to cut it back again. It is probably the first hair cut that I've had where I've left a salon, the do has lasted a good few days before I had to wash and dry myself and it has been something I have been able to recreate myself, abet in Claire form, and not hairdresser form. Again - same fab cut. It is a small salon with one sink and 4 chairs. There are two stylists - Lisa who I think is the owner and Kerry who cuts my hair and who I think is fab. Same wet and dry cut as before - still in about 50 minutes even though my shape from last time had still held well, so again, great attention to detail to ensure my hair is perfect. Fab friendly and cheery service and great prices - still £28 for a cut and blow dry and I think it is under £15 for a wash and blow dry. It is not a tea/coffee and a biccy type place but to be honest, I never got the chance to have that any time before as when the cutting starts, that lean forward to get the cuppa could result in hair catastrophe and I'm not stupid enough to risk that. Busy weekend ahead with work and catching up with friends and I'm enjoying my glossy, well cut hair. So Angel Hairdressing, I'm sharing the Yelpy love and making sure my 200th review is a good one :-)

For one, it's absurdly close to my flat, which makes visits and appointments a breeze. Secondly of course would be the lovely staff. I've been served by the same hairdresser both my trips, and she remembered me the second go round, which makes for a pleasant welcome. Size-wise, It's a small joint, but more than enough room for the ladies to perform their miracles, and it feels reasonably homey inside. What seals the deal for me is the prices are totally reasonable--I've seen some places that make my eyes practically roll back in my head around town, and I've never been one to willingly shell out a week's paycheck for my hair. But Angel has fair prices to match the excellent service. My first go featured a simple cut, the second, a full coloring, and I'd give five stars to each venture. This is definitely my go-to salon! Extra perk: I was offered a cup of coffee or tea while waiting for my color to set. Don't mind if I do!

Good hair cut, high price!…read more You might think that prices and cuts go hand in hand, but I bet to differ. Can't deny that Karl did a very good job, and at the same time I feel I paid a bit too much. You might think what is too much? More than £100 I would say. Got similar service for half the price for highlights and cut. Maybe it's the norm nowadays, who knows. Overall impression: I felt a bit claustrophobic in there. Very small place, Lots of people: 7 Hairdresser, 3 Assistants, and all the clientele. It felt like that the shop overlaid bookings. Some customers turned up earlier than expected and my hairdresser had to excuse himself to talk to them quickly (what was a polite thing to do). However, I felt like there was not enough attention on one person, as everybody was rushing around, trying to do their job as efficient and fast as possible. There were children, lots of them. The receptionist was a bit too impersonal for my taste. It felt like I am a piece on a conveyor belt and am pushed through and passed on to get to an end result. Nevertheless, she did her job professionally. Cut: As mentioned, Karl did a very good job. He is very attentive to your needs and tries to do his job as precise as possible. He loves what he does, which makes it easier to make his customers happy. If you choose Cheynes, then ask for Karl. Others: I liked the massage chairs, which are downstairs, where you get your hairs washed. Took me a while to get used to, but it works fine.

Craig Davidson was a mission to get to. Originally booking an appointment at Zeeba, part of the…read moresame chain, I promptly turned up to find out an empty store leading me to deduce that it had closed down. Suitably confused as to who I had talked to before, I rang up the number which was answered by a cheery fellow. Even more confused now I was explained to that Zeeba doesn't exist any more (confirming my suspicions Dr. Watson) and that the new salon was just around the corner. So off I trundled and shortly was greeted by the same cheery man who told me not to be embarrassed (I wasn't, don't worry), it happens to loads of people. To be honest it made me question more why they still were advertising a place that was shut down, but hey it got me through the door, so their devious scheme works on some idiots at least. So after that brief adventure we got down to the actual business of getting my hair cut, which after all that seemed rather an anti-climax. There was the always appreciated head massage when getting shampooed and then me and the hairdresser had a good old chat. As well as this she actually cut my hair pretty much exactly as I asked which was great, she added a bit of personal flair but didn't just turn renegade. They are a personal fear of mine - maverick hairdressers, but thankfully she was great. Half an hour later I nipped out, head slightly chillier, but satisfied. For students Craig Davidson (and Zeeba if you fancy it) are on the Snapfax, offering 40% off the 1st visit (mon-fri), 40% off on Fridays 9am-3pm and 25% any other time (mon-fri).

Unfortunately, Craig Davidson didn't do it for me…read more I'd wanted to try somewhere that wasn't a chain, thinking that I wouldn't feel as though I was being put through an assembly line. Unfortunately it still felt like an assembly line, only a poorly manned one that resulted in Craig (who was cutting my hair) having to answer the phone and help customers who stopped in while he was in the middle of my cut. My cut was really just a trim and was mediocre at best, just not laying right and resulting in me wearing my hair pulled back every day as opposed to just most of the time. The styling took it to the next level and I actually felt that he took more time "styling" my hair than actually cutting it. Salt spray apparently makes your hair dull, stiff and tangled... like you've spent the day at the beach. I looked like I put my finger in a light socket and the minute I got out of the salon, tied it back to hide the horrible. It was not an experience I'll be repeating.
