In my dire search for coffee, I nearly walked by this place, located next to a Cafe Nero. There's a simple sign outside the front entrance. Opening the door, you walk up a flight of stairs and through a door to the actual shop. This definitely seems like a sit down place. I was planning to get coffee to go, but once I stepped inside I opted to sit down instead. I ordered the Harlequin Blend, while my friend, who doesn't drink caffeine, got a simple elderflower soda. Even though I am a coffee addict, I'm no connoisseur. But, if you still trust me after that statement, I can tell you the coffee was pretty good. Not overly strong (which they listed in the blend notes), but still interesting flavors. You pay at the door when you exit, so no rush at all. Overall, a nice place to drop in if you're tired and need a perk me up.

The staff were pleasant and welcoming. I was t very hungry so ordered the Porridge Oats with berries. It was a very generous portion and cooked to perfection; not too milky or lumpy; great consistency. My large cappuccino was rich and tasty, which I sipped from my window seat, allowing me to people watch. I had a proper English breakfast there, complete with eggs, beans, mushrooms, bacon and black pudding. A couple of times while I've been here in the UK I've ordered an English breakfast, but this was the first time I got to try black pudding. Fortunately, they did a good job with it because I thought it was very good, and I've been told by many Americans that they just don't like it. The cashier clerk was a delight; all smiles, very nice and presentable. Our food was delivered quite promptly as well. Overall, this was a great experience and I would love to go there again someday.

Despite being an old building, in what looks like a converted bank, they have kept Starbucks vibes to a degree and the store has a nice level of brightness, which is something you're sometimes missing in many older buildings. There was only a small amount of seating, which was a shame given how large the store was, but the seating was relatively comfortable. I ordered a Vent iced Pumpkin Spice latte, with this being my favourite festive drink at Starbucks, I was pleasantly surprised that they were one of the few stores in the country to still offer this drink. There wasn't even a button on the tills anymore to charge me, so they ended up putting it through as a vanilla latte, this meant I paid much less than what it would have been back in Autumn with my gold rewards discount. I enjoyed my drink, it was up to the usual Starbucks standards, although they did add whipped cream which I had specifically requested against. They were busy, and mistakes can happen, the staff remained friendly. Early closing is a huge down point for me, but sadly very few other businesses in York seem to remain open after 6 pm, I can't understand why that is, as it is the city centre of one of England's large and historic cities. 4*

It was great to be able to stop in and grab a nice hot cup of brewed coffee. They have basically the same menu as here in the States. Service was very friendly here and fast.
