There is a good woodland walk here which leads to a pond teaming with ducks and wildlife. There are a couple of good play areas for children, and a shop and tea room (on the old station platform). I went to first aid here once after a fall, and the staff there were pleasant. Always plenty of activities to take part in and organised weekends at the woodland park.

That aside, the people of Northumberland are the nicest people I've ever come across. I got lost around the villages and had to ask for directions many times and they couldn't have been more helpful. Diggerland should have more signage in the surrounding countryside ( best views ever, though! ). The staff at Diggerland were helpful and polite also. I'll go again but with just my son.

Everything is very safe and there is strict supervision at all times. There is also static displays and competitions for children. They also have a cafe and a shop. To be honest, I wasn't very impressed with the whole concept. Driving about in farm machinery isn't my cup of tea and it wasn't very exciting at all. You're better off spending your money elsewhere!

The two snack catering areas have difficulty coping in busy periods but a new cafeteria is under construction. The kids play area is looking a bit tatty but the kids don,t seem to mind. There are ample hand washing facilities all over the sight so you can sanitise after handling or stroking the animals, probably as clean as some NHS Hospitals

Cyclists will enjoy usuing the cycle path. You can walk through and link yourself up with Nunthorpe ( Ormesby Bank end) Stunning views over the tees valley. There are some landscaped woodland walks which are fairly basic so families can walk together. Just behind the visitors centre is a basic play area. A must is sledging with plently of good hills to have family snow time fun! We have been this morning and the autumn leaves are stunning. This is such a beautiful part of Middlesbrough and well worth a small journey to relax into!

Adventure Point is a new kids activity centre situated in Norton Park, a shopping and industrail…read morepark outside of Darlington. It has the usual play frame with slides, climbs and running around playing with balls area, and as you would expect from a new centre this is high quality, well thought out and immaculately clean. There is also trees the kids can harness up to climb. They can do this as many times as they want included in the price. Best of all there is an outdoor area which is all sand floored with great play things, water areas and challenging climbing stuff for all ages. This is excellent and all the kids seem to really enjoy this area. There are also some small animals rabbits and guinea pigs that are brought out for petting. Upstairs there are bumper cars. You have to pay a pound extra for these. The cafe is a step up from what you generally find in these sort of places, proper coffee and freshly squeezed juice. My one negative is the price, you have to pay 5 per family to register to go in, and also you have to pay 2 for each adult who goes in. This is not normal practice at soft play centres, and even with the high quality and extra activities on offer- thats what this is. I thought it was worth it as my child really enjoyed the place and we stayed for ages, but for cheaper similar fun try PlayShack at Shildon, or Ruff and Tumble at Newton Aycliffe.

Great for wildlife but be careful of the birds as they can be overly protective when they have chicks. If you're looking for a tranquil haven away from the city centre then this is perfect. Multiple green spaces for lounging around or having a barbecue as well as having tennis courts,a basketball court and a bowling green. It is usually the venue of choice for certain summer events too like gay pride and the Newcastle green festival.

This park is very popular for runners. There are four tennis courts and a basketball court. There is a playground for children as well, which makes it popular for families. The best feature of this park is the pond.

Killingworth Lakeside Park is a lovely local escape, with, as its name suggests, a good-sized Lake…read moreat its centre! The Lake is a well-stocked resource for local fishermen, and there is a lot of lovely wildlife to see in and around the park. You'll regularly see wildlife photographers taking snaps. Check out the visitors boards describing the wildlife around the park. The park also has a model boating club, a small café shack (open only during popular hours) and a good play area for kids, with a wire slide, roundabout and other apparatus to keep the nippers amused. There is ample parking for visitors, and it's a good walk around the lake. In short, I love visiting the park here to take a walk, relax and unwind! How lovely to have these kinds of parks on our doorstep.
