My boyfriend and I bought our first home this year, and were recommended to use Hardtman & Martin as our lawyers for closing. We had almost two months before the closing date when we contacted them and had our realtor send over all of the documentation. Everything was running smoothly at that point.
But the first time I was unimpressed was when I had called them to schedule an appointment to meet with the lawyer about a month before closing. I was told that they would give me a call back the following week, but did not receive a call. After waiting another full week in hopes that I would get a call, I called back the 3rd week... had the same conversation and they said that they would set up an appointment for me the following week. Again, naïve as I am, I did not receive a phone call back the following week. Now one month had gone by and I still had no appointment to meet with the lawyer. We called to say that we wanted to change lawyers since we did not hear back from them in a month and were threatened that the work was done and we would be charged... because of this we had to stay with them, although, we were never updated about anything being done the entire duration that we were trying to get a hold of them and meet them in person.
The second time I was unimpressed was closer to the closing date when we needed to give them our check for down payment. I was told to get a check with the amount payable to them, no further instructions. When I emailed them to double check when I should date the check for (not knowing anything because I have never done this before as a first home buyer), the receptionist e-mailed back saying NO! you need to get a certified check and that automatically means that the money comes out of the account right away. Again, I was not given much detail and only assumed I needed to get the check with the amount to them, which seemed normal to me. I did not appreciate being yelled at for information that was not properly given to me, having her assume I knew these things as a first time home buyer.
Long story short, if you are a first time home buyer, I would not recommend this lawyers office because they assume you know everything and will not be accommodating to your questions and needs to learn what you need do properly.
I NEVER write reviews about anything, but felt the need I had to in this situation since it's an important point in someone's life to buy a home.
