Somehow the people at Unite Fitness managed to differentiate the weight training, no matter my experience or abilities. I never felt in competition with anyone, and there were plenty who were way more fit than I am. The program included so many facets of health and fitness. The chef prepared meals, visits by specialists like nutritionists. Choices of activities throughout the day after spending the morning in the gym. I hiked, I did water aerobics, yoga. The people who work there are sincere, friendly, and helpful. The people who attend have much in common and are dedicated to improving their health. The trainers were amazing! I actually borrowed money to stay for two weeks, and I couldn't be more grateful for my family's generosity. I can't recommend this highly enough!

The staff are amazing--Matt is deeply knowledgeable, Laird brings so much fun and positivity every day, and Drew is always there when you call, ready to help. Everyone here is supportive, kind, and respectful. I came in with a recently broken foot, and not once did anyone pressure me to do something I couldn't. Instead, they adapted and encouraged me in exactly the ways I needed. The food is both delicious and flexible. I won't even mention how fabulous the chefs are - and they even explain each meal prep if you want to make it yourself ! While the program is protein-focused for muscle building, they really cater to each individual they'll adjust thoughtfully and mindfully. It makes you feel truly cared for. The facilities are beautiful. The rooms are fabulous, the environment feels comfortable and welcoming On top of that, Salt Lake City itself is gorgeous--between the hiking, the scenery, and the clean mountain air, it's the perfect backdrop for focusing on health and strength. I'm leaving United Fitness feeling healthier, stronger, and so grateful for the care and attention they pour into every guest. If you're looking for a program that blends expert fitness guidance with compassion, flexibility, and a truly beautiful setting, this is it.

The JCC provides life-stuff for people of all ages: a dynamic early childhood daycare program; concerts, dinners, lectures, and art shows; social outings for seniors; and a diverse health and fitness program with pool, gym and weight room facilities, and a glut of yoga and Zumba classes. Sooo much Zumba. The point is, the Garage Gym manages to blend the wonderful inclusiveness of the rest of the JCC with programming that gets every athlete to perform their best and make measurable fitness progress. When you arrive at the JCC for Crossfit classes, you'll be greeted by nice teenagers at the front desk, and you'll go through the sun-lit atrium and trip over children and their parents and art projects on your way downstairs. You'll pass the weight room, cardio machines, yoga studios, and basketball court to get to the Garage Gym. So many choices --- something for everybody, no matter what their fitness level or health goals. But the Garage Gym is by far my favorite. Crossfit, the "Sport of Fitness," has multiple faces, depending on who you talk to. As Greg Glassman (Crossfit founder) has said, "The needs of Olympic athletes and our grandparents differ by degree not kind. Our terrorist hunters, skiers, mountain bike riders and housewives have all found their best fitness from the same regimen." I've noticed that some Crossfit gyms attract the "elite" in fitness (where everyone thinks they have a shot at winning the annual Crossfit Open), while other gyms attract amateurs and weekend warriors and turn them into people constantly surprised by their own success, in weightlifting, climbing a rope, sprinting, agility, etc. The JCC Garage Gym is this second kind of gym. The classes are very small, and everyone seems to have their own preferred time slot for working out (though the more advanced athletes gravitate towards the morning classes). Every day, we all do the same Workout of the Day, scaled to our ability. The workouts run the gamut from short to long, brutal to basic. We usually start with a bit of skill work (such as an Olympic lift, or a new technique for an old skill, like running). There's always something new to learn. Oh yeah, the leadership and programming: Henry B, Large-And-In-Charge, carries us through every day. He's a former Marine, and owned and operated Crossfit Legion in Tenessee before relocating to SLC. He's got experience and a vision of where he wants us to be. He puts a TREMENDOUS amount of thought into the programming for each month of workouts, and it shows. He ensures that we're doing the technical stuff right before we do it to exhaustion in a timed workout. If he schedules us a brutal, long workout, he ensures that it's not too technical that we do crappy repetitions. He pushes us. He encourages us. He [gently] bullies us. And we take it because we love it. Henry, Frederika, Leslie, and the rest of the coaches are not only knowledgeable, but they care about the whole person. They're not going to tell you how to live your life, but if your blood sugar drops in workout after workout, they're going to ask about your diet and tell you to eat more. If you don't show up for a week, they're going to ask where you've been. True to the spirit of the JCC, the Garage Gym is a wonderful place to grow. They're like family now ... some days you want to kick' em in the head, but even then, you'd defend them with your life, with as many burpees as necessary.

They offer a variety of classes through out the day. Before starting up with the JCC I took introuduction classes at all of the major cross-fit gyms in the area. I choose the JCC becuase of the quality of instruction, small class sizes, and facility. Henry does an amaznig job pointing out and helping me correct problems with my form which could potentially lead to injury or lack of progress if not done correctly. He's great at motivating me to push myself to he next level. In my opionion, the single most important factor in choosing a a crossfit gym is the quality of instuction and SLC garage gym definitely has some of the best in the area. They also have great equipment and the JCC overall is a great gym if you are looking to join a fitness center witha a pool, spin classes, and weight room etc.l. In fact, joing the JCC with unlimited cross-fit clases is about the same price as just doing cross-fit at competing locations.

This location is a little different layout than other Orangetheory studios I've been to, in that it's L shaped and has large windows and it's fun to look outside. The location is very accessible with plenty of parking and I always like to browse other shops after class. It's park of downtown but also isn't, which is convenient.

I'm a current Orangetheory member visiting from…read moreConnecticut, and I was in town to help move my daughter -- a medical student at the U and Division 1 athlete -- into her summer semester housing. While here, I wanted to share something I enjoy with her and thought it would be a great opportunity to introduce her to an OTF class. She has never been to OTF before, so this was supposed to be her one free class. As a note, I have never been to this particular location. When I called to reserve the class, I specifically asked that we be placed on treadmills next to each other at the START, as I always begin my workout there and find it significantly more effective for me. I clearly communicated this request to the person I spoke with by phone. Many years of counting calories in this class (for me) have shown the best workouts start on the treadmill. Unfortunately, when we arrived -- after getting up early and making the trip over on my day off -- we were told my daughter had instead been assigned to start on a rower. There were plenty of available treadmills, but the staff refused to accommodate the simple request to start us together. My daughter is a highly capable and athletic individual, and there was no practical reason for the refusal. As a result, we ended up leaving without taking the class. If it is their policy to start "new" people on the rowers then that should have been communicated to me when I asked us to start on the treadmills, together. To be candid, this was a very frustrating experience--particularly because it felt so easily avoidable. The front desk staff came across as dismissive, repeatedly saying, "I'm just doing my job," instead of making any real effort to resolve the issue. A simple question from the coach to my daughter, such as "Do you know how to row?" would have clarified everything and allowed us to move on with our day. Unfortunately, the interaction felt more like a power struggle than a customer service moment. When I asked if the studio manager was available, I was told, "She's out, I'm here today," by the front desk girl, which only added to the dismissiveness. To make matters worse, I was charged a late cancellation fee for the class to my account--adding insult to injury. I emailed the studio manager and (no surprise) have not received a response. What could have been a welcoming and positive first impression turned into a missed opportunity. As a result, she will not be joining, and I won't be recommending OTF to others anytime soon.
