The resort is located at the SW corner of Bamfield Inlet. The village of Bamfield split by the inlet with most facilities on the west side. The road to Bamfield is gravel and ends at the SE side of the inlet. You can get to the resort by boat or water taxi. Alternatively, you can take M/V Charles Barkley from Port Alberni and disembark on the west side of the inlet.
The Harbourside Lodge is efficiently run by John Howie, a friendly chap from Australia. When we visit, we stay at the docks on our boat. So I can't comment on the resort accommodations. The docks are clean and uncluttered.
For avid fishermen, there are very good facilities for cleaning fish, fueling boats, and replenishing bait. There are no food options at the resort. However, across the inlet on the east side there is a cafe and a pub.
There is a pleasant walk from the resort to the north end of the inlet, with about half of the walk on a boardwalk that is supported on pilings the extend over the shore. Near the north end of the walk, you will pass the postal station and General Store (which is also the local Liquor outlet). There is also an art gallery that is open for several hours most days. read more
