Given the pandemic I would have expected them to be more stressed or less patient but other than the masks it seemed unchanged, Well I was the only one in there but as I feel somewhat self-conscious having to try on sizes that work with my weirdly huge shoulders, which had ruled out female sizes and most men's sizes that the very roomy space where I ended due to the lack of anything there was discussed very professionally as a bonus for the type of suit as water that did get in would quickly warm. They had an excellent selection that was well laid out so you could see at a glance what you might be getting down the road as you got a better feel for what helps and what does not. I'm not sure how far they could go with improving accessibility as while I had no trouble getting in and most aisles were also easy to navigate there were places a walker could not go. The change rooms though had plenty of room. It was better than most retail situations where accessible is often getting in the door. Only putting this as other than one the reviews are all but one 5 star so in case they ever see this it's the tiny bit that could be slightly better. Possibly given the selection was very good and mostly visible where practical this could be solved with some way of viewing things that are in more challenging locations. While the staff are knowledgeable if you are new to using much gear at all it isn't immediately clear what might be useful.

We chartered a boat for two days with them to dive some wrecks in BC and Nanaimo; again, they were pretty good, but not great. The first thing to know is that they provide no food, and while they said they'd have no beverages we were able to make some hot water for coffee and hot chocolate, which was great. Maybe Canada does it a little more bare-bones, but being from Seattle, I think it's really easy and really nice to get at least a sandwich and something hot to drink when you get out of the cold water. A ready hot beverage at minimum; no such luck. The boat itself was a little tight, though we had it packed to capacity. The main problem is that they keep their emergency dingy on the deck in transport, which takes up half the space back there and makes 12 divers trying to get in wetsuits and set up gear before we get to the site a real pain. Another drawback was the eddy-effect the dingy had on airflow; the presence of the boat caused air to flow back over the deck, which recycled the engine's diesel fumes constantly and gave most people not below decks a headache. The leadership on the boat also left something to be desired; while the captain was good at orienting us to the dive sites, he and the divemaster (I assume he was a divemaster and deckhand, but he really just kind of hung around and dove by himself) didn't really take charge enough. We were all experienced divers, but you need someone to take charge and tell you when to do certain things on this boat at given times. We were left to figure most things out and were only corrected when we did something wrong. I don't mean to be mean to these guys--the captain was nice and funny, and was very accommodating once we were in the water. He had some fun stories and allowed us up in the wheelhouse to shoot the breeze, which was nice. Overall, it felt more like you were throwing a guy you knew some money to go diving on his boat than a tried-and-true dive charter operation. They'd be good if all you were looking for was a ride to a dive site, but you might consider going a different route if you want more than that.

We were surprised when we arrived at the boat, it was way smaller than we expected. When we booked the reservation I could've sworn the picture showed a much larger boat. With 11-12 passengers and 2 captains it felt extremely crammed. It was also rainy that day and not all of us could fit inside the tiny cabin with the captain, so about 4-5 people had to sit outside in the rain/wind. We did see 2 pods of orcas during the tour, and first group got really close to us and possibly swam under the boat which was really cool (we saw a female, calf, and large male orca up close). The second pod we saw from very far away and all we could really see were black dots (that I think were fins?) in the distance. We also saw porpoises and various types of sea birds. The captains were really knowledgeable and friendly, and we enjoyed the tour overall. However the fact that we had to sit uncomfortably shoulder-to-shoulder really detracted from the experience. I also feel they should give a warning about possible seasickness, as the waves could be rough the farther out you get.

They said the issues occurred the day before. I understood the need to cancel the tour, but the lack of an early notice prevented us from being able to rebook with other tour companies in time to go out that same day, which was our only day in Victoria. Big disappointment.

Of all the dive stores is the Greater Vancouver, this is one of the two that we use the most (the…read moreother one being much closer to home). The reason is the EXCELLENT customer service. We deal primarily with George and, if we have had any problems (eg a camera malfunctioning or a travel bag's wheels breaking) he has taken the item back immediately. Often they will replace the item or offer a store credit even before checking with the manufacturer if the return is ok. For this reason, we return again and again to purchase more equipment. They have a good selection of everything: wetsuits, drysuits with undergarments, and some novelty sale items from time to time including wetsuits or lightweight neon tropical BCDs. Their regular selection is standard-priced. They sell Mares rather than Scubapro and we bought some new fins, Volo Power, which are lightweight and easy to use at the suggestion of George, and have been pleased with them. Good selection of accessories as well. Dive and Sea also offers instruction, with open-water dives at Whytecliff in West Van, EFR training etc. Although the staff will make suggestions, I have never felt here as if I'm getting a "hard sell". It's a comfortable store and we always look forward to going there, even just to have a look around. (Dive stores are like candy stores, hard to leave without buying something!) To get to this place, you must be heading North on McBride as it's impossible to make a left turn heading south.
