My wife and I had high hopes of spending an entire weekend at the Irish Isle festival, but the weather had other plans. Upon arriving at the Boat Ferry on Friday morning, we learned it was cancelled for the entire day due to high winds and waves. We tried booking a last-minute flight, but were told they were at capacity (on top of possible cancellations/delays as well).
At this point, I called the Harbor View Hotel, explaining our situation and our predicament being stuck in Charlevoix for an extra night, knowing their cancellation policy and two-night minimum. Mary kindly informed us they would simply transfer our first night's pre-payment to our second night, and we wouldn't be responsible for the missed night. I was truly grateful to Mary and the Harbor View for meeting us halfway due to this weather delay, significantly easing our financial burden, especially as we now had to pay for an additional night in Charlevoix. It was incredibly kind of the hotel to be willing to accommodate us given the circumstances.
Despite the initial setback, our first experience on Beaver Island was wonderful, largely due to its community of genuinely great people. Everyone we talked to, walked with, who gave us a ride, or shared a beer with during our 24 hours on the island reinforced this. It's truly a welcoming group of people proud of their island.
As for our room, the two-bedroom condominium felt warm and steeped in history - a great place to stay and, as mentioned, close to everything via a short path to the main street. The pool, with its town views, would have been fantastic to use, but the weather unfortunately didn't cooperate this particular weekend.
We honestly look forward to returning to Beaver Island and will continue to stay at the Harbor View, not only for their hospitality but also for their grace and understanding of our weather situation. Thank you again, it's much appreciated. read more
