I attended this school/church for years. There was an instance when the pastor, Brent Way, came to the establishment I was working at at the time, I know he hadn't recognized me as I hadn't attended that school for years. He pulled up to the drive through (it was fast food) and we did not have the item he had ordered anymore. He then came to the window and had made me feel so ridiculed. I was a teenager working fast food and he couldn't take the "sorry, we don't have that anymore" as an answer, and the tried to argue/yell at me for some reason in such a condescending tone. I remember that made my 16 year old self feel so deflated. This is a review for the content of his character. I will not go to a church where the pastor can't even treat customer service like humans. read more

Multi-cultural church that is welcoming to everyone and celebrates diversity. Amazing music and worship. Prepare to join a real celebration and experience the presence of God. This church has a heart for creative arts and the creative artist, which makes it always an interesting experience. Thought provoking, Biblical and entertaining teaching on Sunday mornings, whether it's the senior pastor or another pastor on staff. Often there are amazing guestspeakers from around the world. Great programs for kids, youth, seniors. Bible studies and newbie classes Sunday mornings and throughout the week. Kids day camps in the summer and over Easter break. If you're used to a small church, don't let the size of this church fool you. You get the quality of programs found in a big church but with the approachability of a smaller church - I find it's easy to get to know people and the pastors, who are always at the door to greet you. And if you happen to miss them, just introduce yourself. Harbor Light is full of people who want to make you feel at home. Stop by the coffee counter and ask questions while they get your coffee, you'll be a part of things in no time. This is also a church that serves the community in a million different ways through food distribution and various outreaches that anyone can get involved with. They don't just talk about God. They love people. It's amazing to see how relationship with God (not religion) looks on the teenagers of this church up through older adults who may have just come back from serving a community in Africa. I went to this church for a year before I moved away again. They are an Assembly of God church if that makes a difference to you. They are thoroughly Pentecostal/charismatic and have an extensive prayer ministry where people get healed, prophesied to, or baptized in the Holy Spirit. Pastor Terry is a passionate and COMPASSIONATE man who expresses that in both his sermons and his everyday life. I have personally met all the pastors on staff and they are wonderful people. The church is on the bigger side at 600 people or so on a Sunday but by getting connected with a life group you can get personal with the same group of peers every week, giving that "small church" feeling. Great place for children, and a God centered, relationship based Youth ministry. I love it! read more

Me entire family attended this church. My aunt was in the choir, my cousins were all married there, my neices and nephews all went to the high school, and we as a family congregated there for over 10 years. There was about 1 full pew of us every Sunday. I moved away and was surprised to hear that my entire clan stopped attending and found another church. I visited my home town 2 weeks ago and the nostalgia set. I had to attend a service. It just felt like home as i drove by and saw the building. When I got to the church I immediately thought service times must have changed because I remember how long it used to take to park and walk in. That Sunday...no traffic at all and I wizz right on in. Then I walk in and see the place is barely full. What happened. That place was always packed...where was everyone? Well when the pastor started his service, I understood. He was awful. From the service that was all over the place with no consistent message to the calls for money. I'd donate my last penny to the church but this pastor's approach just rubbed me wrong. I didnt care for his sermon either. It lacked a clear message and was very weak. When I told my 20+ family memebers, they all separately said the same thing......his sermons aren't good and he's always asking for money in a way that turns people off. What a shame. I grew up in that church. It used to be packed and full of energy. Clearly the leadership has diminished the congregation. read more

My aunt took me as a visitor. Mixed nationalities, great worship, great prayer team, progressive thinking, teaches spiritual warfare. Many churches don't want to acknowledge this. I found Harbor Light in February 2013. My first Sunday here I was warmly welcomed by all the Pastors after the service. It was like a homecoming! Weeks later, I signed up in their membership class and now 6 months of attending and I am already a member and a regular volunteer at Harbor Light. It is a mature church with multi-cultural background. HL's ministries are so varied, there's something for everyone of all ages and needs. If you have kids they provide you with child care, so you can attend classes/ministries. Kids church is also is one of the ministries headed by Ptr. Brent Way. You have to be prepared if you plan to visit, because this church is a hugging church.there is warmth, love and is really welcoming. I made a lot of friends in so short a time. Praise and worship is dynamic and uplifting. Sermons are relevant, something we need to hear and not just to tickle your ears. They also have a school! So if you are new in the East Bay or in Fremont particularly, you are most welcome to attend. I started attending Harbor Light in February of 2013. What I like most about this church is the warmth of the people. You will right away feel at ease. And and will be taken by their praise and worship. The church also has a wide variety of ministries and several small groups that will cater to your specific needs and talent. They also have several outreach ministries ( I joined one for now) and I can't wait for the "end time" class to start. This is a hugging church, so get ready to get a hug or two. If you are a family with kids, they have (on top of the Sunday School) children's church/worship. And nursery for the little ones. The sermons are always timely, relevant and Jesus focused. This was our first time visiting Harbor Light Church. We were greeted at the door and staff helped us sign our 1 year old and 3 year old into their designated rooms. The nursery and ages 2 thru 3 room were wonderful, clean, well equipped, safe and included professional staff. We enjoyed hot coffee before the service. The worship service was amazing and the message of the day was very uplifting. Terri Inman the senior pastor is a genuine, down to earth guy and spoke from the Bible. There were two inspiring testimonies given by a young man and a lady faculty member of the Fremont Christian School. During the worship portion staff came down for those that needed prayer. The people who attended were from all diverse cultures and backgrounds, age groups, single, married, and families. People clapped and raised there hands in worship in praising God so I felt people were excited and vocal. It was a relaxing atmosphere to join and share in fellowship. Over all I was impressed with the children's programs and small groups available. We plan on coming back and look forward attending this church. read more

I've attending Harbor Light for 2 years, but needed to move away for graduate school. The reason for the church name is that it is a safe harbor for hurting people. Indeed, coming to this church has the ability to bring profound healing in your life. It has brought healing to mine. In my own perspective, if I could sum up the leadership and congregation in this church in three words it would be genuine, mature, and well-rounded. Genuine describes the people and the pastoral staff at Harbor Light. It is what hit me the first time I went there. I didn't feel pretense or a religious mask on people. This church focuses on internal purification (motives, thoughts, desires) that leads to the outward change. You can see this genuineness and passion for God in the testimonies of congregation members living for God in their personal life just because they love Him. People are sharing God with their coworkers, paying for someone's bill at a restaurant, visiting shut in people, approaching someone on the street to tell them about God, surprising nurses at the hospital with little gifts... I even met a car mechanic that blesses struggling ministers with free car parts. People serve in the way they are gifted on their own volition, and are impacting the community. Mature describes how both new and seasoned Christians can learn so much from not only the pastoral staff, but also the members of the church. First, the senior pastor of this church is incredibly knowledgeable about the bible and gives powerful insights to passages, going into the meaning of Greek words and giving insights from the culture of the time. In fact, every pastor serving here has their own unique gifting that caters to the diversity of the members. The church also allows members to start their fellowship groups on their own topic, and guidance is given to these leaders through a meeting every month lead by a pastor. Many of the members of this church have gotten very deep with God and lead incredible groups. This setup is actually brilliant because the diversity of leaders makes it so that there is a group for all sorts of inquiries and needs. Well-rounded describes this churches views on the spiritual. This church believes the gifts of the Holy Spirit are still operating today, but stresses that the purpose of these gifts are to bring people closer to God. Physical and emotional healing, prophecy, miracles, tongues are all practiced at this church with the goal in mind. If a tongue is spoken during meetings, these will be a silence to wait for God to reveal the interpretation. There is a prayer team that stands at the altar every sunday to pray for people and many of the team members have a gift of prophecy, but they minister in a simple and unassuming way that will not frighten or humiliate people, but bring them closer to God. This church also has a variety of speakers coming from other countries and other churches. This church sponsors many missionaries both in the US and abroad, has produced many ministers, has pastoral staff that have served abroad, and has a strong ministry for the poor. In addition, this church is very multicultural. There are Indian, Chinese, Caucasian, African American, Hispanic... all sorts of people here. There are headsets for translation to spanish and there is a girl that does sign language for the deaf. This church does not keep out people. On more than one occasion I've been surprised to learn later on that someone I met at church was homeless, a prostitute, addicted to drugs, emotionally abused... you name it, when they first came to this church, but received the healing they needed to change. I Remember when we first arrived to California from 9/11 tragedy near our former home in NYC. we kept passing harbor light which was formerly assembly of God, but I kept avoiding it, we came from a city where we attended a smaller church associated with the assembly of God. We decided to visit a few churches and decided to stay at a medium, but not smaller or large church. As I eventually hooked up with monthly intercessor prayer groups, I began networking with other prayer members of other churches. And then, I began being invited to harbor light events. Then one year our life began to fall apart again with banks taking houses people owned or rented, having trouble with my older son who were here too, etc. then changes were also going on in our current church and, we never had been connected to many support fellowship at our church... We remember walking in before Christmas, feeling abandoned and alone, far from family, and went up for prayer as we fell to the Lords feet! crying? Wow! Seeing my whole family crying was the hardest. I was a bit surprised how Gods presence surrounded us and we just felt Gods love receiving our broken hearts and healing began! It's been 5 or so years and I wondered why I delayed! My family gets full support all around and individually. God has been healing us slowly and blessing us. I like that it's big enough to connect with people who understand you, and embrace you as you are. They have so many connection groups, youth, young adults, children, men, ladies, marriage, and more... I love that the pastor preaches directly from the word and helps break it down for and with you. I love that, like family, they do family events so that the whole church could fellowship as one. What attracted me as well, besides the prayer team every Sunday, was their way of visually expressing Gods word and love through drama, creative arts and dance. Because God is also a God of vision as well. Visual ministries... Something for all... We have found healing, restoration and revival here! What took us so long?! Don't wait! Check us out. If your broken, lonely, or just want to be connected to grow in God, come on by! We are a spirit lead church who let's God lead and we don't force anyone to join.
