Blessed to Have Found This School Family!…read more Although we've only been at the school since November, it feels like we've found a second home. Transitioning from Peninsula Montessori can be a big change for a little one, but the staff--especially my daughter's phenomenal PreK teacher, Mrs. Patti--made it seamless and positive. What stands out is the school's genuine dedication to each student and family. Their mission to foster a love of learning and compassion for others, centered in faith, is evident everywhere. Academically, we have seen our daughter thrive and progress by leaps and bounds in this nurturing environment. The leadership is inspiring; it's an all-woman admin team, and the principal makes a point to connect personally, looking every child in the eye during morning greetings. We are profoundly grateful and blessed to have found a community we trust wholeheartedly with our child.

First, we were impressed by the responsiveness of the staff and the clear focus on academics. While we moved to Palos Verdes for the schools, of which I am an alum, we have been so much happier at SJF. We found that the teachers are truly devoted to their students, and they pay attention to whole child development. Teachers go above and beyond responding to parents' concerns. Not only does the school foster intellectual development, but they also have community service requirements as well as service to each other and various athletic programs. And check out those drama productions - they are entertaining even if you do not have a child participating! Both of my daughters have been at their happiest at SJF. They both have smaller classes where everyone is a friend. I love coming to volunteer and seeing all of the grades interacting, and all students helping each other out. My oldest has even developed such an affinity for Mass that she goes during the week in the summer. It is a special place.

But what hasn't changed is that while my child is at school, he is safe, happy, learning and growing up to be a good human in this difficult world. He always has, and continues to acquire skills and traits at school that I feel are important beyond academics, such as being of service, being a confident speaker, good social skills, empathy for others, and a respect for his environment/community, just to name a few. Since my last review, we have had the pleasure of having Mrs. Hofmann in 1st grade, Ms. Nakae in 2nd grade, and currently Ms. Flores in 3rd. We have enjoyed all of them as teachers. Mrs. Hughes is still going strong as the kindergarten teacher as well. We also have a new principal this year, Mr. Kim. Mr. Kim has truly been an amazing leader so far. I am so grateful to have him at our school. The office staff is also wonderful. Our school community may be small, but it is filled with families, staff, and teachers who truly care about making these children's elementary and junior high experience a great one. Nothing ever stays the same, and that is okay! We are fully embracing the positive changes that are happening at St James. I am honestly so happy that we chose this school community for our child, and will continue to do all we can to support the students and the growth of the school, as I know it can only continue to get better and better!

Office staff is loving and caring, Ms. Michelle, Ms. Caroline, and Nurse Gina are all a great representation of Lincoln. Mr. Brown is a fantastic principal. But I can honeslty appreciate everything when I look back on it now. I had tremendous oppurtunities and I was exposed to things I probably would have never known about. A few of those oppurtunies were backpacking, dancing, diversity conferences, community service, and wonderful college counselors. There's also certain traditions that make Chadwick special such as the Tree Awards, they physically ring a bell in between classes, eating lunch on the lawn, and the graduation. There is also the rigorous academic excellence that is demanded from every student. This can be a challenge if you haven't grown up in an environment where your suppose to study 45mins per class every night. Now that i'm in college i'm glad I have those time management skills. The teachers are definitely amazing too and they have very high expectations of their students also. So all in all I think Chadwick is definitely a school you should consider sending your child too. The Alumni network is very active and give lots of money because most people who graduate are successful.

We are blessed to have found Holy Innocents Catholic School (HIS) last year when we learned that they had expanded into a High School. Now three of my children attend this school, ranging from TK to 10th grade. We now have ~30 minute commute to this school, but it is really worth the drive. By the way, we pulled two of my kids from another local catholic school, plus my son who was already a freshman in Cerritos High School (CHS). By the way my son finished the 9th grade at CHS with a 4.0. When my son visited the school he said, "I like the simplicity and peaceful nature of this school campus, I think I will like it here". I brought my kids here to HIS because it is a "truly and authentic catholic school" that educates the hearts and minds of the children. Look into their classical liberal Arts curriculum which teaches; logic, rethoric, Latin, and a lot more such as Daily Mass, opportunity for frequent confession, no reliance on Digital Classroom, uses plain old pencil & paper, real books, and good all memorization. No cellphones allowed in campus is a great rule! There are plenty of community activities in which the families form a healthy support system. We were happily surprised when we learned of a good number of families who also drive more than 30 minutes to bring their kids to this school. From cities such as Lakewood, Artesia, Norwalk, Downey, LAX area, East LA, and Orange county. I went here from…read morekindergarten to high school and was treated terrible by not only other students but the teachers as well. The principle is not a nice person. The education is terrible considering what you are paying. This school teaches you your faith while giving examples of how a catholic should not be behave. The teachers constantly would make fun or scream at the students in front of the whole school (it's extremely small) instead of nicely taking them aside and confronting them about the personal issue. I cried at least once a week after school and had such bad anxiety before class because of how mean the teachers were. There is also a very bad favoritism problem. Your grade is solely based on how favorited you are and if the teachers don't like you than you're screwed. Instead of detention, like a normal school, the make you do yard work for a week during your recess and lunch ( that whole week you don't get recess or lunch because you raking leaves in the front). When I transferred to my other high school in 2019 I was embarrassed on how little I knew and I had to be held back. the pandemic hit after I transferred and I am so mad that my only school memories are from this shit school. Overall you'd be better off at Public school or homeschooled because you learn nothing here besides exactly opposite of what God would want.

Their middle school program offers small class sizes, field trips, sports, electives, and much more. My daughter made lots of friends and loved most of the teachers. She got good grades all throughout her middle school years and earned academic honor roll and other achievements both academically and for sports. During her 8th grade year, her class did a very memorable missions trip and went to DC. She told me that it will be a year she will never forget. The staff was great and very supportive. Mrs. E did a wonderful job in her new role as the principal. Coach Phil is a special person who was always available to the students when they need someone to talk to. He was a great coach, pe teacher, and yearbook teacher. My daughter loved coach Phil and I am so grateful for him. Mr. Shook was another favorite. He taught science and history. My daughter enjoyed him because he would always crack jokes and make everyone laugh. Mr.Shook was a great teacher, however, sometimes, I think he should keep his political opinions to himself. That was the only thing that kind of made me uncomfortable. The other thing relating to staff was the staff turnover. My daughter had a different English and math teacher every year. Which was annoying because she would build a strong relationship with them, then they left and she would have to rebuild. I understand that isn't the schools fault. But it did interfere with math and her math grade. Overall, my daughter and our family loved Valor! We highly recommend this school if you are looking for a small close-knit Christian school community. We felt safe sending her which was a big deal considering the unfortunate times that we live in. Thank you Valor for all the wonderful memories and for providing my daughter with a great Christian middle school experience. Please let me know asap when there is a Valor High! :)
