My daughter Amelia loves singing and dancing. She has learned so much so quickly thanks to the smaller class sizes and individual attention.

My uncle passed away last year, and it was at his funeral services that this experience occurred. My 17 year old son went up for Communion. He has been baptized, made his First Communion, and attended Catholic school. But, since it had been a while since he had been to church. I am not sure if he was just nervous, but he didn't have his hands out. The priest, in a loud and scolding voice, asked if he had made his First Communion. When my son quietly said "Yes," and the priest turned him away. If a young person comes up to the altar looking unsure, wouldn't it be more appropriate to kindly invite them to cross their arms and receive a blessing? To guide them in a welcoming tone? What if it was someone with another faith, that didn't know what to do at a Catholic funeral? Was that really an appropriate response at the alter? About a month later, I saw the same priest at another family service. Afterward, I approached him to share what happened and suggest a gentler approach. His response? He said he did that because sometimes people receive the host and later throw it on the floor. What? I was stunned at how arrogantly he spoke. I even told him, "Normally, one might respond with, 'I'm sorry for that experience,' or 'I didn't intend my words to come across that way, I'll reflect on how I could have handled it differently.'" Instead, he brushed me off with, "Oh, okay. I have another appointment," and walked away. This was deeply disappointing. If a young person looks unsure at the altar, shouldn't the response be gentle guidance, not public humiliation? In a time when churches are struggling to keep young people engaged, or someone who is possibly exploring their faith again, I expected compassion. What would Jesus do? What would Jesus say?

We are so incredibly thankful that we found Christ Lutheran for our children! When considering…read moreprivate schools, we visited several local campuses and were overwhelmed with a feeling of safety and belonging when we entered Christ Lutheran. The staff are kind, committed, and caring, and the campus itself is beautiful with a large grass soccer field and full track, lots of outdoor play space, and a calm and inviting vibe. It immediately felt "different" when we walked into this beautiful school for the first time. The wonderful families that welcomed us made it feel even more like a home. One huge benefit of a K-8 school is that kids get to avoid a lot of the akwardness of middle-school because they continue right on from preschool through 8th grade in the same environment and with the same group of kids. That continuity takes away a lot of the stress and anxiety that middle school can impose. We also love the quality of the education here - our kids consistently test in the top tier of local students and are accepted to academically rigorous magnet and gifted programs for High School. Some really cool things about Christ Lutheran include the amazing trips students take as a class - 5th graders go to Astro Camp and spend two nights there learning about astronomy and science up in the mountains of Idyllwild. 6th grade does a 3-night trip to an outdoor education center where they hike, learn about the natural world, zip line, and make smores by a campfire. 7th grade travels to Catalina for several nights where students explore nature, kayak, snorkel, and learn about our unique coastal California ecosystems. And 8th grade spends a week visiting Washington D.C. and New York City, going to pretty much every major monument, memorial and landmark, visiting the smithsonian and congress, civil war battle fields, and even seeing a live show on Broadway. We are thrilled with our Christ Lutheran experience and the safe, academically rigorous, and nurturing environment that it has provided for our children. My family never expected to be at a private school, but looking back now I wish we'd found Christ Lutheran sooner. If you are looking for a safe place to send your kids where they can grow and thrive in the South Bay, this is your best bet. This video they published recently really tells the story of Christ Lutheran. https://youtu.be/1l6Klfu5Qys?si=f4iVOZItLgzlDQUq

I cannot say enough about the community of teachers and staff that HT provides. This is a wonderful learning environment for our children. The regular curriculum allows for the children to take part in Spanish, computers (with state of the art equipment), hands on art and science and multiple sports teams through the sports program (volleyball, softball, baseball, track, cross country, soccer, basketball, archery, swim, etc.). We love HT and wouldn't have it any other way.
