It's a favorite place to hang out among local young people and artists. There's often a band playing. It's a good place to watch people. Some strange cats come through, probably to rip out of the surrounding small-town, conservative angst that is Norfolk. The art inside is also strange. I can't remember the guy's name, but there is an artist that everyone loves in Norfolk and lots of his stuff is featured in this bar. They always talk about how great he is when I'm there, and I politely listen, but honestly not my taste. The drinks are so cheap that you have to be careful. I absolutely got shit-faced during New Years a few years ago. It was a fun time though. The bartender was awesome. We had cheap champagne on the house at midnight. They passed around hats, noisemakers and other party favors. They don't have much food here, mostly frozen pizzas that actually taste pretty terrible (but who cares if you're drunk). There aren't too many places in Norfolk to hang out. This is a pretty interesting place.

We needed an evening bite to eat and chose 411 Restaurant & Lounge. We were glad we did! 411 is named for its address on West Norfolk Avenue and it sits on the south side of a downtown street. It has very attractive outdoor seating with ample room and some privacy on half of it. We considered asking for an outdoor table but opted for indoor. We were promptly greeted and seated, and our seating location (at small round two tops in the back of the restaurant - near the kitchen and bathrooms) and that's one negative hit I'm giving this review. There were better locations open but given the 8:00 pm seating I decided not to push the issue. I'm sure they would have accommodated. However, a host needs to recognize that seating a group of four at two two-tops is not optimum and when four-tops are available they should forgo their server distribution methods and provide a better seating experience without the diner requesting it. Now let's get to what great about 411 - the people, the atmosphere, and the food! Their menu has good variety and creative options. We went with burgers and that menu gives you six different options. We went with the Classic, The 411, and The Jake Burger. All were very good with top rating going to the Jake Burger - Bacon, Fried Jalapeno, Fried Onion, and Pepper Jack Cheese. I asked for my Classic to be prepared medium, and it was medium well at best - so another negative hit on the review. The presentation of the burgers is exceptional with shiny Brioche buns on an ample plate, combined with excellent french fries - we went with the standard fry and the sweet potato fry, and both were very well prepared and seasoned. Fries are often where restaurants loose points with me, because their just an afterthought they throw on the plate. 411 treats them seriously and uses excellent product and preparation to do so. I also ordered a side salad with blue cheese dressing. This was outstanding - both beautiful in presentation and delicious in taste! Five stars on the side salad! The cocktails were very well made, and the bar staff were pros at their job. The attention to detail and training of the bartenders and servers is evident. They have a good kitchen staff also. I was able to watch them from our position in the restaurant (a plus of the otherwise negative seating location!). Overall, 411 Restaurant & Lounge is a great go-to for dining in Norfolk, Nebraska.
