Happy Wash King William Rd, is one of few On The Run car washes that allow you to do the cleaning yourself. Pop in your coins, select your type of cleaning (rinse, pre-rinse, suds, post rinse, polish etc) and get moving. $1 gets you around 1 minute 30 and you get beeped at as your time runs out. This car wash is conveniently located for me and has plenty of bays so you don't have to wait. It also has a really cool air blower that I like using to dry off my car at the end of the wash. Unfortunately however, it doesn't have a coin changer so you have to have plenty of shrapnel available before starting. Additionally, the last time I was there all of the air blowers were not working and I proceeded to have an "out damn spot out moment". Tips for making your car wash as cheap and fun as possible? - Skip going through all the steps, you really only need to spend $6 on pre-rinse, brush wash, post rinse and air dry to make your car sparkly clean - Have plenty of change, otherwise you have to flirt with the guy at the On The Run counter to try and get some more - You will get slightly wet so leave the Manolos at home ladies

Isles are well organised and this place is always clean and fresh. Unfortunately anytime I am here during the day to get petrol the service is painfully slow, yet friendly and with a smile. I have never had the EAT or DRINK options here (aptly named) but they don't look that bad. I would probably prefer to actually pick one of their pre-cooked meals or frozen meals from their freezer section though anyway! On The Run is great for petrol but more so for 10pm at night emergencies of the chocolate craving kind.

I mean, the last experience that I had with a supermarket in Adelaide was one that was closing up at 6pm, and I'd arrived just in time to see the doors locked. I mean, seriously? Major supermarket closing at 6pm? In a major suburb? I was pretty incredulous, and after spending eight hours in the car, I was pretty buggered. But I needed stuff, and so ended up spending another half hour looking for a place to shop. That's when I stumbled upon this place. It's a service station, but it appears to be the only place where you can get any shopping done when it gets late. They don't have heaps of stuff, but they've got the essentials. They also have the service station mark up prices, so it's not a good idea to buy everything you need here. It's good to know though, that if I need it, it's there.

From the owner: The Soft Touch tunnel is the safest, softest way to wash your car and it may surprise you to learn,…read moreit is better and gentler for your car than traditional hand washing! This is because pieces of dirt and microsopic grit particles embed within the fibres of rags, dusters and sponges you use. Even when you rinse them in the bucket, you cannot remove all the fragments and when you wipe over the surface again, you scratch the fine paint duco on your car. Over repeated washes, the scratches get deeper and deeper until they are visible to the naked eye and quite upsetting for the car owner who has spent many hours washing and polishing their beloved vehicle. In America, tests have been conducted to determine the effect of various car washing techniques on a vehicle. The tests showed that a single home handwash can produce scratches that penetrate as deep as 1/10th of the total thickness of the paint on your car! These tests, conducted by the University of Texas at Arlington, substantiated tests done over ten years ago by the Technical University of Munich, Germany, in association with Mercedes-Benz, which at that time showed similar damage done to an automobile when using detergent and low water volume commonly found in your garden hose as well as sponges and towels used to dry. Tests also showed that hand washing can reduce surface reflectance whereas cars washed in a professional tunnel wash such as Soft Touch Speedwash, show virtually no change in shine readings.

They…read moretarget their service to those folk who own and operate a top end prestige car, and who do not have the time or the inclination to zip out to such a thing as a do it yourself car wash. They are people who feel their car is like their calling card or in some cases an extension of their penis, something to be admired for it's unique shape and aerodynamic prowess; it's speed and agility on the road is supposed to add value to the myth of their own personality. So these folk do not seek to wash the car themselves. Think of Edina Monsoon from Absolutely Fabulous chastising her daughter Saffron by saying "You don't want your mother to be a normal toilet going mother do you? Where's mum? On the toilet!" the idea being such mundane tasks are for lower class people and those with minimal status and credibility. Well these are the types of people who will roll their ninety five thousand dollar car in for it to be detailed by experts who consider the finish and upholstery to be penultimate to life itself. I'm only partly kidding. I think the price is probably reflective of the targeted customer and the value of the car and the actual preciousness of the main resource that ends up being used - water. A lot of water goes down the drain at Spotless, and I'm sure they'd be paying for that as a once off, as I can't see how they'd be recycling it. All in all the service seems busy and it is close to the trendy part of town, Central Markets; so there are plenty of prestige cars getting a good hard rub. Lots of people coming along for the service I'm sure. They charge up to five hundred dollars for a full detail on a 'people mover' - that's one of those largish mini bus types of vehicles, but then you can get a service for about one hundred as well, so you will probably want to chat with the boss and scrutinise the costings to discover exactly what you get for the price. You can also get paint protection, like some kind of an invisible condom over your paint job I guess, and they will remove pet hair, tint windows and ... well you go and check out the list of things they'd do on the website or give them a call, I'm starting to feel like a pimp.
