The dentist I saw was incredibly kind and thorough. She conducted a comprehensive checkup to ensure there were no signs of infection or inflammation, and even ordered a CT scan of my teeth to make sure nothing was missed. After discussing the numbness and its progression, she gently suggested that it might be Bell's Palsy. However, to rule out the very slight chance of a stroke, she advised me to have someone take me to the emergency room immediately. The staff were all extremely kind and professional, and they asked only that I call and update them on my condition after my ER visit. I felt genuinely cared for, and I believe that level of care is the best any industry can offer its customers. Oh and it is Bell's Palsy. I should be right as rain in a few weeks to a few months.

Everyone from the front desk staff to insurance verification was quick and easy. My Insurnace was even verified before I arrived for my first appointment. Dr. Godwin was thorough and caring during my new patient exam and the X-Ray tech was gentle and patient with me. After my first visit I had a detailed treatment plan and got lucky and was able to schedule my fillings and cleaning for the following day. Kandiss was my hygienist and was caring and thorough. The assistant to Dr. Godwin ensured that the numbing was complete before I received any shots and for the first time I didn't even feel them. The work Dr. Godwin performed for my filings is amazing. They are perfectly smooth and unnoticeable. Overall I had an excellent experience and highly recommend this practice to anyone looking for a caring and efficient office. This was by far the best experience I've had with any dentist since moving to the Carolina's 8 years ago.

They, for some reason, proceeded to do what was later called a periodontal cleaning, which I did not ask for and cost much more while only being partially covered by my insurance. The dentist then tried to get me to take a numbing agent, for a cost, which I declined because. I never, ever needed one for a cleaning. It was also totally unnecessary for what they did, though the dentist commented on how most other patients needed the numbing agent. They cleaned half of my teeth and then told me I had to return the next day for the other half. I was perplexed, as I had never had a two day cleaning. There was nothing special about what they did. It took the same amount of time to do half of my teeth as any other cleaning (half cleaning) I'd ever had previously. I had time the next day, so I agreed to return, though I said this was new. The next day I returned and had the other half done. I left thinking my insurance covered the entire cleaning. I then received a bill in the mail for $640, the part of the "periodontal cleaning " my insurance didn't cover. I called and said, "What is this? I didn't ask for this.". They said they would cut my bill in half if I paid now with a credit card. Reluctantly, I said, "Send me a new bill." They would not do that. They wanted me to pay for something I never agreed to have done, specifically ignoring what I asked for. When I considered just paying the half, simply to be done with it, they remained shady and said pay now, and then we will change the bill. Later, my wife, covered by the same insurance, went to a reputable dentist, got a cleaning as asked for, and our insurance, as expected, covered it 100% Avoid Ideal Dental!

We verified with Oak Ridge that we were still covered for the same costs without changes. Consider us surprised when we received an invoice for nearly $1,100 for costs our insurance provider would not cover. This seemed odd to us as we had already paid out of pocket and they had verified that our insurance company would cover the costs. However, when we contacted our insurance provider, we were told that YES, the DO cover those costs, but Oak Ridge Dental was NOT IN OUR NETWORK. While we still had the same insurance, they changed how they pay for out of network dentists. This was the first we had heard of this and were stupefied when the receptionist admitted she was aware they were out of network, but felt that our insurance was to blame as the insurance website indicated they would pay the full amount. Did we pay the invoice? Yes, are we extremely upset - ABSOLUTELY! We should never have even BEEN in the situation and felt they should have been transparent that they were out of network. Having work with medical offices int he past, we're used to a level of transparency about being "in network" or not. Find a dental office that's more transparent, open, and honest. A majority of these reviews speak to some simple facts. Don't make the same mistake we made.
