The pizza is huge, juicy with tons of fresh toppings, always well seasoned for your satisfaction. Most of my former Italian coworkers will agree when I say that you will be served the world best Pizza here. For me Il Genio's pizza is the only reason for taking a trip back to GK. What you should know: First of all: this is not Domino's, Little Cesar's, Olive Garden or whatsoever. Don't get me wrong! I absolutely love American pizza (except for Pizza Hut;))! But, this is an Italian pizza place. Second: This is neither a fancy, romantic restaurant nor some hipster place. Most people order Take Away. The restaurant area is small and, typical Italian, somewhat noisy. But, the stuff is very friendly and hearty.

We've tried this place twice (to give it "another chance"), but cannot discover its "reputation". The formula of leaving your phone number and wait to be "invited" to dine, should say enough: arrogance all over. Which is not founded by the food you will be served: that is OK to GOOD (but definitely NOT outstanding). The fact that ruins the experience is the lack of decent service; FOOD 3,5 / Service 1. Definitely NOT recommended (again: cross the bridge to the Rechtstraat for the real Italian restaurants... Yes: more than one...!)

We decided pizza would fit the bill and there were two open seats at this place on the main square. The staff was super friendly and accommodated our lack of Dutch language skills. The salami pizza was super thin crust and crispy - very good. The mushroom omelette was also very good. Everything was a fair price. Both light meals were perfect given all of our big meals during 10 days of travel. They also gave a complimentary after dinner drink. A nice touch.

It's always crowded and even with reservations you will have to wait a couple of minits for a table. They will give a free aperitif while you wait. We had an appetizer together, funghi e lumache, which was ok but not great. The escargots were chewy. For mains i had the filetto funghi porcini (entrecote with cep), which was nice. My wife had tagliatelle mari e monti, which was excellent. I would have given it three stars, were it not for the price we payed, which was steep in my opinion. I think you can eat great here, but keep to the pasta.

I ordered the rigatoni garbanzo - such a heavy cheese dish, with fresh parsley&parmesan on top ohhhhh man. Dare I say it was better than some of the pastas I had in Italy My husband scarfed down the risotto so I never even got a taste. But he was quiet while eating so means it was amazing as well LOL Everyone around us was having pizza, just about the whole place had pizza on the table! So of course we naturally had to order a pizza to go ... well the slices are massive, thin, and you'd think the cheese was nonexistent BUT it's there and it's GREAT! The salami was spicy, which definitely took us by surprise; since NO one in Germany eats spice! We will definitely be eating here again!
