First time came here . I got hair cut by " Jason " He did great job. Clean work I had an amazing experience at this barbershop. The attention to detail was outstanding--my barber really took the time to listen to what I wanted and delivered even better than I expected. The fade was clean, the line-up sharp, and the overall cut looked fresh and professional. On top of that, the atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable. You can tell they truly care about their craft. They keep hiking the price, and their attitude get more and more bad. Whats happy about these barbers? Theres nothing happy about them, they look angry tired and dont care anymore. It was $10 in 2015, $19 a few years ago. Then $20, and now $22? And of course plus tip so the guy dont even give change anymore. Also the guy i got was so not interested in working that he clipped my ear. The first time this happened to me at any barber i went to in a long time. Obviously i wont be back. Clip my ear and im gone forever. Also the $22 price for a regular basic haircut is way to high for the kind of haircut you are giving. the guy first chair on the right did me wrong he knows it. I don't know if he has a problem with lgbtq people or what the issue was but he butchered my hair. Normally we're turned around so I just have my eyes closed but he turned me to face the mirror and just started chopping. I stopped him and told him he went a lot shorter than we talked about and he acted surprised and said I watched him do it. As if that makes it somehow ok. Vietnamese owned barber shop in Clairemont with friendly workers. Stumbled upon this place as I called around asking for prices of a regular haircut and this was the most fairly priced which starts at $20+. My medium skin fade ended up being $23, which is a good price in this economy. I called around to some other places in the area and starting price was $40 for a REGULAR haircut, yep no thanks. This place takes walk ins or is appointment based if you have a preferred barber. Cash preferred, but they take card. Military and senior discount available, check them out! read more

I've been coming to this location for years, and I plan on being a loyal customer for many years to come. Tom and Jason (on occasion Hung as well) are the barbers who cut my hair and trim my beard ($39 for both). I cannot give enough high praise to express how well they do their jobs. My haircut experience is a solid 5/5 every single time. I refuse to go anywhere else. I've introduced a handful of friends to this location, and they have all become regulars here as well. This was my first paid haircut in like 6 years. My SO made me go get a haircut before our photoshoot. She claims her haircut isn't good. I came here around opening on a Saturday and they were packed. Only waited like 10ish minutes though. There were like 6 or 7 barbers cutting hair. All were wearing masks. Haircut was pretty quick. The haircut looked fine. I paid $23 including tip for the haircut. Couldn't really tell the difference between my SO's haircut and happy barber's. Would not come back again, unless requested to. Alright, yesterday was my 4th time getting my hair cut at Happy Barber and all I can say is Thank You guys for doing such a good job and being so efficient. These guys spend quality time on your hair providing a solid cut/trim and are not trying to rush you out of the seat. All four times I've been here, there has been a different gentlemen cutting my poor, thinned out hair-line, and each time I feel like they add a few hundred new follicles to my severely receding hair line. Seriously! Just tell them you want the #21 with a faded #3 on the sides and they will hook you up. Price point is solid also. These guys are nice and very professional. My go-to spot for the last 4 years, Happy Barber has always been a haven for fresh fades and crisp tapers in the Clairemont Mesa area. This is a no frills, honest barbershop with a typical rotation of 3-5 barbers on any given day. They are cash only and as of November 2022, basic cuts start at $17, but will go to around $20 pre-tip for any styled cuts (e.g. fades) - totally worth it! The barbers I've seen have worked well with different hair styles, textures, beards, head shapes, old, and young! They are a nice crew of barbers who take good care of their clients. They welcome walk ins and essentially do not take appointments. Depending on the time of day, it can get quite busy, but for me, it has been always worth the wait. With more barbers, the wait can be around 10-15 minutes but with less, it can be around 25-30+ minutes if there's a line. I'm a simple man so a simple medium skin fade with a lineup has been executed nicely by any of the barbers I've come to here. My personal MVPs over the years have been Hung and Jason because I've seen them here the longest, but all the barbers here do a great job and I highly recommend stopping by Happy Barber if you're in need of a fresh cut! read more

Worst haircut ever. Guy had no idea what he was doing and just kept going shorter and shorter. I had to stop him and leave with lop sided hair. After about 6 years, it's about time I gave them the review that they deserve! I give Jason 6 out of 5 stars, he's been the best barber I've ever had! It was pretty difficult explaining how I wanted my hair to be cut and Jason understood the first time around. He's a master at giving a fade. There were a couple times where I had to wait around an hour since they were busy but it was totally worth it. It was either go to a mediocre barber and pay them double or give my man Jason a huge tip for a great job. The price for a stylized haircut as of February/March 2020 is $15 and i always give him a 100% tip since I am completely satisfied with his work. I highly recommend Happy Barber! read more

I made the switch from going to the Clairemont Mesa location to this Balboa Ave location a couple of years ago, and no matter who cuts my hair at this location my fade has always looked fantastic. They accept cash only, they can be busy during the late morning and early afternoons, but their prices are still very comparable. The prices increase at least once a year, but with inflation, that is to be expected. The barbers here are nice and they know how to cut my hair: (finger length up top, medium skin fade). I really enjoy getting my haircut here, it is like my therapy session hahaha. There is nothing like getting a fresh and neat looking fade. I live at least 15 minutes away from here and there are plenty of barbers near me. However, I actively choose to come here and get it done right. I see them at least once a month for maintenance, and yes it is worth it. Thank you for keeping me be a happy customer :) read more

This location is brand new just opened on 2/7/15 and its beautiful on the inside. Everything is new and well lit. The customer service at any Happy Barber is superb. They listen to what you want and actually give you what you want for your haircut. The workers are very friendly and will always strike up a conversation if you are in the mood to chat. The prices are very good for the high quality of work that they do. They get the very hard haircuts right, I usually get a high skin fade and he does it to perfection each and every time. No matter which Happy Barber you go to you will always be taken care of, the workers are very friendly and will do what you ask. My update is still 5 stars. IT IS CASH ONLY AND WRITTEN ON BOTH THE DOOR AND REGISTER. People complaining about that aspect just need to learn how to scan a room and read or godforbid ask! It is common practice in many barbers around the world (and I've been to 48 countries and all 50 states having my hair cut in every one) because it keeps overhead down. The barber Mike is great. And so is Jason. My haircuts became complicated when I had two brain cancer surgeries and have both a scar and a weird pattern of missing hair from radiation. These guys taught me how to hide it without looking ridiculous. They also do a lot of military guy's haircuts due to the proximity of lots of military housing in the surrounding neighbourhoods. The price did go up to $18 due to inflation. I just hand them $25 because that is just how I was raised. I get my cut about every six to eight weeks.
