The husband is a good kind guy, but his wife who runs the shop is awful. She made my renting experience 20x worse than it had to be. She is greedy disrespectful and unkind as she charged me for a full day coming 5 minutes late to the required time while the husband said it was fine. They also charge you the whole fee of the board before renting. Do not rent from the lady If she is in the shop. read more

I wanted a surf lesson while I was on vacation and didn't know which surf shop to go to. I saw what I thought was a local drive by with a surf board hanging out of his SUV and decided to follow him to what I thought would be a local surf spot. He pulled into Hang Loose so I stopped as well. When the local took his board out of the vehicle I noticed he had a broken fin on the board and was there to get it fixed. Locals going to the shop for repairs was as good a referral as I could expect. I walked in and had the pleasure of meeting Vivi behind the counter. I asked for a lesson the next day and she explain the weekends are not good this time of year for lessons due to the large crowds all fighting for the same small waves. She said I would not get my $ worth because of the crowds. I signed up for lessons the two consecutive days following the weekend. I went by the beach the next day just to swim and relax. Vivi was right I would have wasted my money the surfing area was jammed packed. I am happy they didn't take my money for nothing. During my lesson, Werner was stern about safety, etiquette, and prepped me before hitting the water. A half hour later Werner had me catching green water waves and enjoying my first surf experience. He knew all of the locals in the surf spot and because of that they gave me a little extra room and courtesy(not normal). The second class was even better. 2.5 total hr on water and Werner had me turning into waves and riding the face of 4-5 foot waves in a safe and comfortable way. I got lucky when I found them. Reasonable rates, top notch instruction, and Vivi made me feel like family. You don't have to get lucky like I did, just go to Hang loose surf shop from the start. I read the other reviews and based on my experience I do not believe they hold any weight. VIviana is a great person with a passion for surfing, she told me where to go and stay safe or where to find the best surfing spot, very knowledgeable of the area. They have a very good training system where you can learn in Jobos all about surfing for the kids specially. The store?shop have good prices.
