This cute little beauty salon is situated in The Grand Arcade, which despite its desolate vibe, actually has a few gems inside. With Roots and Fruits, Upstaged and the infamous Trophy Shop, Hands Tanned is a nice addition to the collection of day time businesses inside. Hands Tanned do everything you could ask for in a nail bar. As you will see from their displays they sell a number of different and varied 'nail art' bits, at the moment for only £10 too. Dazzling! They are also selling varnish for £6 and have some delightful colour options. As well as nails Hands Tanner fit semi permanent eyelashes, which I must admit I'd be a bit scared to have done, but it sounds pretty interesting! Finally, they also do bikini lines, including their advertised 'heart shaped' bikini lines which are now available... I shouldn't think I'll be rushing in for that, but you know - it might be an interesting Valentine's gift for some, I suppose! Well where do I start? My boyfriend bought me a gift voucher for Hollywood lahes (worth £85), on the hollywood lashes leaflet it states a patch test is a must at least 24hrs prior, so I tried ringing no answer so I left messages no response, this went on for around 3 days, so I decided to go in and book a patch test. When I arrived at the salon the lady who dealt with my request for a patch test said "there is no need for a patch test" and basically they didn't have the time!! On the day of my apointment I was running a few minutes late so called 15mins before my apointment to let them know she replied "it will come out of your time!!', so at this point I had a feeling it was gonna be a rushed job! When I arrived she said ''we can do all the paper work after''.. ie allergies etc(very professional I thought) So I lay on the treatment table for my lashes to be applied... all going well, 45mins later she has finished.. (or my time was up) hollywood lashes take at least 1hr to be applied correctly.. As I went to sit up my hair is stuck to the treatment table with glue!!! she spent 5mins scraping the glue off and trying to free my hair without having to cut it out..(no apologies) So I look in the mirror and notice on one eye that theres no eye lashes in the corner, I told her so she quickly got me on the bed to put a few more lashes in.. When I got home I noticed the ones she rushed to put in was not applied the correct way so now have eye lashes that look so stuck on its unbelievable!! I wish I could give this salon less than 1 star. The beautician was so rude and they don't understand what customer service is. I prepaid for a full set of eyelash extensions and they agreed that they would remove my current extensions from another salon before applying the new ones. When I arrived, they said they didn't have time so just they filled my extensions in, even though I had already paid for a full set. They then refused to give me a refund despite not giving what I paid for. I was trying to be friendly and sympathetic but honestly, by the end of it, I just felt so upset. Please don't even consider going to this salon. Save your time and money. I have never experienced such a hostile environment where you feel belittled and leave feeling scammed. read more

Dont come in this salon if you value your time and money. Such an awful experience. Very unprofessional, rude, arrogant and made me feel she was doing me a favour by booking into her salon!! I came there 10mins early, I greeted her nicely and told her my appointment time. She said that i have no booking recorded for you and she has booked another costumer on the same slot. So I showed her the text message she sent me confirming the time and date. She only reply if the costumer wont arrive then she will accomodate me. No apologies given and she just walked away in a different room. I sat down and think that this is not right. I have paid for childcare and parking just for this appointment and She made me feel that it was my fault. So i talked to her again asking why would i wait for the other costumer to cancel before she can accomodate me!!?? She said " i dont want an argument' double bookings happens" (in a very rude manner) and slammed the door on me. This is what costumer service is like in this salon. Cancelled my appointment a few days after I had booked it, and only offered alternative session mid-week during the day - not great when you work and had specifically booked an appointment after work time. Service was ok, good selection of colours, shellac done very quickly but very neatly with minimal chat. However, 3 of the nails have chipped so not sure I'd use again. read more

quite hidden away a very small shabby/dirty interior esp the nail dryers and floor. Strong chemical smell also don't use branded products and this hurt my nails. the polish did last without chipping though but did not receive a proper manicure or pedicure as paid for/expected. wont be returning here or recommend it. read more

I bought a groupon for a shellac manicure and arranged an appointment for today via email. When I turned up she'd not written it in the diary, and had booked someone else in instead. She offered me an appointment for later in the day which wasn't convenient for me, and then made it clear she didn't understand why I was still there, so I left. I won't be re-booking as she didn't apologise for her mistake and made me feel really uncomfortable.
