A very small, quaint shop with a retro feel. Good coffee, and insanely delicious hot sandwiches on freshly baked rolls. It's very popular, with just a few tables inside and a half-dozen outside. If you have to brave the cold and sit outside, you'll find a warm blanket on the bench seats. read more

One of the tastier places I've been to in Leipzig. This place has a shabby chic vibe and great customer service. I do find food in Germany on the saltier side and was presently surprised to find my red cabbage and duck stuff bread perfectly seasoned and not too salty. The sour cream topping, along with the scallions and red peppers were a perfect touch to a great lunch. Would definitely come back the next time I visit Germany. Do note that there are only two tables inside Handbrotzeit. So if you're there with a large group or during rush hour, you may be hard pressed to find a seat. However, there are tables and seats outside if you're brave enough to sit out in the cold during the winter season. read more

The cafe/bistro is quaint. The service was very good - although we struggled a little bit with the communication - she was kind and patient enough to deal w me though. There were three options for handbrot (basically it's bread baked with cheese and an additional ingredient). The soup of the day changes, they had radish the day that I was there. So many of the neighboring businesses are either chains or simply unimaginative in their traditional preparation.
