There's just a shower curtain but no way to catch the water on the bottom from splashing out on the floor so after a shower there would be such a wet floor.

This year's water level is historically low (since the 1960s), so direct swimming access to the water is nearly impossible. Boat ramp closed. However, the view is still spectacular. We also appreciate the grill spots -- we saw previous complaints about the grills -- honestly, we don't quite understand why they are being so picky with the public grill spots lol... I can tell they have tried their best to manage/clean. A/C works well, especially at night! Not much noise created. All the fire pits were upgraded and well-maintained. Some things to be careful with: 1/ Some weeds in the grass can be sticky and painful to pick off. Be careful walking in grass near the cabins (wear water shoes). 2/ Some dogs may be reactive to people/other dogs (barking). But everyone was very respectful. 3/ Didn't try the swimming pool; it looks a little muddy. 4/ Coffee station not working well. We noticed from others' reviews and brought our own coffee boiling pot with pour makers. They also didn't provide milk/coffee mate. 5/ Pillows are not quite comfortable.

And just like last time, it was a great stay. I'm not sure if I noticed their amenities last time or if they added on facilities in the last decade, but a few things to know: o There is a giant, we're talking massive swimming pool that's 3"5 deep all the way around. As a shawty, I appreciate that. There's plenty of seating, pergolas for much-needed shade. No restrooms at the pool. o Volleyball court o A main lodge area/event space, perfect for family reunions and such. o There's a "motel" also onsite. o It's dog-friendly, with a max of two dogs per cabin and a $25 deposit per pet per night. o Amazing sunsets, direct lake access for swimming or boating, grilling areas, and "The Point" which is a great spot for a nightcap and handing with friends/family. As for the cabins, once again our group reserved five of their six cabins that each come equipped with two decks overlooking Canyon Lake, a hot tub, multiple bedrooms, living spaces, fireplaces, full kitchens.... Note that some cabins may have a studio-style room with no wall. Our AC was kickin' and there was plenty of hot and cold water. Only gripe is the living room seating in our cabin, Cabin F. The chairs stunk like BO. My guess is that guest sit on them with wet river clothes... hope they steam them.

Keep in mind when you're trying to get away from it all, you are also gonna find that there's not as much to do either. There's a handful of restaurants, bars and thrift shops and one thing that we noticed is that many of these places are closed on Monday and/or Tuesday. On our arrival at this B&B we were welcomed by Keith and Darrin.......and the cat. This husband and wife team do a great job of making your stay here enjoyable. Breakfast is included with your stay, and it is a lot better than anything you'll get at a comfort inn (see photos). You can eat in the dining room or take a tray upstairs to your room. Now for the inn itself. This is not a house that was later turned into a B&B, it was actually designed as a B&B from the start. Each room has its own balcony and bathroom. The place has a nice rustic feel about it, but it does not have that musty or moldy smell that some old buildings have. The building itself is about 20 years old and is in very nice clean shape. The rooms have wooden creaking floors and the furnishings look as though they're from the 80s and 90s. The amenities include a mini fridge, a Keurig, artificial fireplace and a flatscreen. Since half of your stay here is spent on a bed, each room has a king size bed that is made with coiled mattress springs, not memory foam. We found it to be a little bit softer than we prefer and there is a subtle trampoline effect when your partner moves in the night. Our room had an additional twin bed which my wife preferred after the first night. Our room had a spacious balcony on the corner of the house that overlooks the backyard all the way to Canyon Lake a few miles away. And speaking of the lake, there is no trail that leads from the B&B to the lake, you will have to drive there. However, on those early misting mornings, you'll most likely see deer below your balcony. There was plenty of hot water in the shower and the bathtub came equipped with air jets. I have included pictures of the other rooms here, just not ours. One other facet about this B&B is that it makes a great small venue for a wedding outside and you can book the rooms for your guests. An added benefit is that Darrin owns a floral business on the property. Massages are also offered here. However, I do need to point out that parking is very limited here and street parking is not an option. We spent five quiet nights here in March for the sum total of $1080. There's plenty of pictures here to help with your decision.

There are very few things as peaceful as sitting in a jacuzzi and watching the wildlife walk and fly by. No sounds of cars. No airplanes overhead. No "hustle and bustle." Just peace. The cabin itself was pretty cool. There's a binder with photos documenting its construction sitting on the kitchen table. The layout made sense. It's nice to be able to cook your own meals if you want. There are some restaurants just a few miles from the cabin if you'd rather do that. If you want a nice hearty breakfast, you have to check out Granny D's. The shower and fireplace were both a lot of fun. The rain on our first day there made it a bit difficult to get a fire going, but we finally managed to start it. The replica Franklin stove in the bedroom was useful. The way that the windows are fitted to the house lets a bit of a draft in, and they rattle a bit when the wind is blowing hard, but that's part of the charm of the place. Another cool place to check out while you're there is the Natural Bridge Caverns. Lots of fun, as we both like long walks and hiking-type activities. There is one recommendation that I would make to the owners of the cabin. Re-grade the driveway/ramp down to the cedar cabin. The sharp drop at the bottom all but guarantees that you're going to scrape your vehicle's undercarriage unless you're driving a pickup or SUV. If you are driving a sedan, you'll want to park at the top of the driveway and walk down the hill to the front door. We were crawling down the driveway at less than 1 mph and still managed to scrape the under-body paneling of the car on our first day there. That sucked. We parked up top (see photos) for the rest of our stay. All of that said, the cabin was exactly what we were looking for in a relaxing hill country getaway. I've recommended it to many of my friends and colleagues in the past few weeks since we got back to Grapevine. You should absolutely check it out and at least give it some consideration if you're looking for a getaway that's a bit different than the typical downtown hotel or beach resort scene. 8/10 Would survive the zombie apocalypse there.

Nestled in the hill country just a stones throw away from Canyon Lake and all the awesomeness that the Hill Country has to offer are the Homestead Cottages. There are three cottages: A cedar cabin, a regular cottage, and a Tiny Texas House. We stayed at the Tiny Texas House and loved it. The location itself is great. It's close to New Braunfels but even closer to Canyon Lake. It is perfect for day trips into the surrounding hill country, which is exactly what we used it for. We tripped to Boerne and Bandera from the location and the drive was beautiful. Tough to beat. The amenities at the Tiny Texas House were nice as well. There is a Tiny Texas Kitchen with a Tiny Texas Induction Oven (you know, the magnet thingie to heat stuff up with). There was also a flat-screen TV with sattelite TV, bath robes, and a coffee maker. Most of the comforts of home. I had only a couple of negatives about the TTT: (a) the size of the sink made it difficult to wash dishes and there was no dish soap; (b) the air conditioner wasn't quite strong enough to cool down the lofted bed; (c) there were some unknown hairs on the bed sheet so we were uncertain whether the sheets had been washed before we arrived; and (d) the fridge smelled a little musty. These were small issues, though, and didn't diminish our enjoyment that much. Aside from the location, a few things stand out for me. First, I loved that the TTT had a little enclosed garden surrounding an above-ground jacuzzi. If we were so inclined, there was plenty of mint to make enough mojitos for a party of 20. The jacuzzi was secluded, too, both by the trees lining the street and a wall filling in the space where the trees were. I also really liked the idea of a lofted bed. It was like getting up into my lofted bed I had in college, except fancier. All in all, if you're wanting a hill country escape with your significant other, you can do much worse than staying in one of the Homestead Cottages in Canyon Lake: unique, charming, and cozy.
