Old school and friendly staff. Very close to Fresno High. This school is for students from pre-school through 8th grade.

It is in a quiet, rather remote area, right next to Lake Nacimiento. Lake Nacimiento as of recently only had about 15% of its capacity, so I did not check it out on this trip. While I knew about the lake, I had no idea about this quiet community of a few thousand, let alone a school, and a small shopping center just across the street that has a large supermarket [Oak Hills]. In any case, we arrived shortly before the young kiddos left school and people interested in getting vaccinated started to arrive. We set up right outside the entrance and things went really well. Quite a few people did have special needs or lacked transport to Paso itself, since there was no pharmacy in this town. The school staff that we interacted with were quite nice and it was great that they thought of helping their community with this effort. After finishing up, I did drive just across the street to check out the mini-mall and supermarket. Maybe next time I am in town I will check out the Lake itself, but we typically run late so that we can offer people services after work hours, so at this time of year, it starts to get dark early. One of the interesting aspects of being a Medical Reserve Corp volunteer doing Mobile Clinics is that we literately go almost everywhere in this huge county and meet all kinds of interesting people. Of course, the absolute best thing, is that we are saving lives and preventing suffering & disease. Again, if it was not for places like this quiet school, many people who cannot get to relatively few Pharmacies nor the few Public Health Clinics with the full range of vaccines [or any vaccines at all], would continue to go unserved and unvaccinated. We also have the time, knowledge, experience, and patience to help people understand why vaccines are safe & effective, while also dealing with people's fears & needlephobia. Thanks to Cappy Culver we helped people in this out of the way community.

I honestly wish that that I could rate this elementary school at ZERO stars. There is continuous…read moremiscommunication, and a extremely unprofessional attitude when it comes to the principal, Tracy Cassina She cares more about getting her "Likes" on the "Blooms" App, than she does about real concerning matters when it comes to the children. Not to mention the favoritism when it comes to students and parents. Even the communication between the principal, staff and district office is always inconsistent. The district office seems to have more realistic, and accurate information, yet the principal is always on a different page, or a page of her very own while she leaves out her own school staff, or chooses to snap at them as witnessed on multiple occasions if they try to have an opinion. It's extremely obvious that she is way in over her head with the current position she is holding as principal. Her number one priority should be the children attending the elementary school and their overall well-being whatever that may be. Yet as a parent when she is spoken to in regards to a bias situation she simply tells you straight to your face that she doesn't have time to discuss it, and you have to take it up elsewhere at a later date and time. There has been continuous situations that have arose, and each one of them have been taken just as serious as the last, which is not serious at all. I have learned that the overall approach for the School District is to ignore the parents, leave matters unaddressed, and eventually you will just shut up and go away. Leaving your child/children with whatever scraps of dignity and respect that they want to throw their way.

PARENTS BEWARE! PLEASE READ PRIOR TO ENROLLING YOUR CHILD(REN):…read more Prior to enrolling my child here several years ago I did a lot of research on this schools and the districts and found only positive feedback regarding McSwain Elementary. My daughters first years here under a previous staff was beyond amazing! Sadly, within the last couple of years, this school's administrative staff and new principle: Lauren Lanum/Vice Principle: Hector Perez and especially the Superintendent Andrew Kersten have completely lost sight of safety and responsibility for the children who attend this school. My child has experienced both discrimination for medical reasons and had been bullied a total of 8 months within one school year. When dangerous situations occurred and death threats were made upon her life nothing was done to stop it even though adults in charge were notified. My child was told by those in charge to ignore the bullies. My child became so traumatized to the point of wanting to take her own life because of the constant torment. I emailed, called & visited for various administrative help about the dangers and suicidal feelings my daughter was having due to the bullying and no one batted an eye except for the school counselor Vanessa Granados. (Thank goodness for her!) The principle Lauren Lanum could care less. Both she and the superintendent Andrew Kirsten hung my child for a situation they stated they had no malicious proof of. They simply used her as an escape-goat. A Teacher who was supposed to be responsible was never held accountable because thats what the adults do here; they protect one another. The female Coach at this school: Heather Perez allowed bullying and even became involved. Parents over-heard/saw her talking negatively about my child and contacted me to let me know she was involved. When I brought up the comments to the principle she made excuses. This school is like a boys club. If you are a "favorite" you get special attention and privileges. If you are new, bullying is a huge problem. I'm not the only parents child who's been emotionally tortured at McSwain. I'm simply the one who is willing to stand up against bullying and speak my truth and experiences. All other positive posts after mine are simply to throw off the scent of the lies and deception that this school is so wonderful at performing. Guardians Beware!

We have done several Mobile Vaccine Clinics here so far, in various larger areas of this school. We have been in the Gym, The Library, & a common room. All areas are impressively nice for such a small, but lovely rural town. We have had clinics here that have a turn out of over 135 people & have exceed 106 degrees at times. Thank heavens for the good AC in the modern Gym! The staff and community there are quite lovely and we always have a volunteer group of Spanish & Mixteco translators to help us. The school complex itself is kind of hidden & nowhere near the main street nor freeway, so unless you know where to go, you can get slightly lost in this mainly Mexican/ Indigenous little town. Out of the many dozens of places that I have volunteered for the Medical Reserve Corp, this is one of my favorites. People really appreciate you at most places, but especially here & other places near Paso, such as in Vineyards, Shandon, & so on. Of course, if you are in this town, you are more likely to be here for the mission, which for some reason, I have passed by a dozen times but I was on my own mission to save lives. While there are a few places in town for food or even alcohol, I am usually quite exhausted after doing a Mobile Clinic. I answer questions, help with logistics, & of course administer vaccines. Lately we have added doing boosters & some Flu shots. Now that we have the newer VOC called Omicron, it is quite likely that we are going to turbo-charging our efforts all over again. I am sure that this lovely school & community will welcome us again & again as needed. Thanks!
