The lake is surrounded by mountains, and the views are breathtaking. We stopped periodically to admire the views, have a picnic, and to hike a short distance to a waterfall. Claudio knew a lot about the history of the area, as well as the best places to hike, eat, explore, etc. The bike ride itself took about 5 hours with the stops. There were a few steep hills, but very doable for people in shape. Bus tickets and bike rentals are provided in cost of tour, but bring cash for a tip! Overall, it was an incredible experience, and exactly what I wanted out of the trip. Would highly recommend! (The pictures don't even do it justice)

After doing some research, my husband hired Salzburg Private Tours for a two days tours of Salzburg.  The tours explored Salzburg and its beautiful surroundings by following the tracks of the world-famous musical "The Hills are alive" (The Sound of Music) and visiting the historical Eagle's Nest in the Bavarian Alps. They also covered the Austrian Lake District, including the UNESCO World Heritage site of Hallstatt, and "5 Fingers", that's probably the most spectacular viewing platform in the Alps. Carlos Loureiro was our driver and tour guide.  It was great that Carlos spoke perfect and fluent American English.  He was prompt, organized, very knowledgeable, professional, and was an excellent driver and story-teller. The Mercedes-Benz SUV that they provided was very clean and comfortable. Since we had two days with his company, he was able to move things around and streamline the schedules.  He even knew the schedules of cable car to "5 Fingers" and boat rides in the Hallstatt area by heart, making our tours efficient and smooth. We truly enjoyed our tours with Carlos.  I highly recommend him if you would ever like to tour the Salzburg area.

The Untersberg massif, which spans approximately 70 km², is located right on the border with Bavaria. The Untersberg cable car starts in St. Leonhard near Grödig and leads to the Geiereck, from where we enjoyed breathtaking panoramic views of the Alps and the Salzburg valley area....we loved the views, the fresh air and the whole cable car/gondola experience. Many people go hiking right off the station at the top. We did not, but we can see how others would enjoy the trails during any of the four seasons of the year. It is included in the Salzburg Card if you have one.

There's a huge lot if you drove or take bus 25 to the very last stop. Breath taking views of the alps. It was cold and with fresh powdery snow. Make sure you wear appropriate shoes with tracking if you plan to go further out in the snow. Takes another 30 minutes to hike to the peak which is the highest peak in Austria. Going down was more dangerous than going up.

You'll need to scan it each time for entry. It's a 15 minute ride each way by cable car to Katrin. The cable car seats 4 at a time. There's a platform with great views at the top and restaurant. If you hike down the platform, you'll see the information cabin. Restrooms are at the bottom and top. It's 1400 meters above sea level, with panoramic view of Salzkammergut. Which is an Austrian region of lakes and alpine on the northern edge of the Alps. We got lucky with the weather while we were at the top. Once we began to descend, it started raining. Make sure you check the forecast and webcams before you go. There's not much to do up here but to admire the views and breathe the great open air.
